Ok, this topic came up on a guild board and I posted this there. I figured it may be of some benefit to compare notes with folks here, too and that maybe someone would find this semi-useful. So, without further ado, here is my list of Class Rankings:

Classes (In order of Preference)

1) Mage: SO much fun. Great in groups, great solo, plus Teleport. Likely to be nerfed soon, but they'll still more than likely be the most fun class.
2) Rogue: Stealth, Disctract, Pickpocket, Ambush...I love the feel of this class. Best rogue in a MMOG to date.
3) Shaman: Despite being Horde only (Alliance side is MUCH better balanced and fun, quest and zone-layout wise) Shamen are a great class with a wide spread of abilities, both in combat and out.
4) Hunter: (Assumed rank)
5) Druid: HUGE spread of abilities...but the most expensive class progress wise.
6) Paladin: Fun class. My highest Pally is only level 13, though, so obviously it hasn't attracted me THAT much.
7) Priest: I'm not much of a healer, so these guys are just 'eh' to me.
8) Warlock: These guys are game breakers. A good warlock can let groups accomplish things far above what would normally be doable, but solo they are slower than molasses in January. I'll group with a warlock every time...but I won't play one.
9) Warrior: Talk about a love/hate relationship. Warriors SHOULD be #3 on my list. I love the class...solo. It's in groups where the pain sets in. In groups, eveyone wants you to Taunt. Taunting requires Defensive Stance and Rage. Defensive Stance says you get Rage when you are attacked. You have very few Offensive options in Defensive Stance. Thus, gaining Rage isn't necessarily easy. Not hard, but not easy. So, in a group, your damage output goes way down. Your number of combat options goes way down. It's harder to get Rage and without Rage a Warrior cannot use 90% of his special abilities. So, my warrior sits in an Inn, never to be played again. Sad, really.

I never have rage problems in a group. Hit bloodrage at the start of the fight to get rage for taunt/demoralizing and after that the mobs hitting me generates plenty of rage. Try bloodrage if you have rage problems...that should put the warrior back up to #3 on your list. :)

Damage goes down because defense goes way up. Personally, I think it's awesome they get a choice of whether or not they want to be offensive or defensive, because as a rogue it's low-defense, high-offense 24/7, with no way to adjust that.

Low defense, mediocre offense is more like it.

Oh, I used Bloodrage. I just never really got into the swing of being a Defensive Meatshield. It's why I shelved my warrior in EQ back in the Kunark era and created my rogue.

Role-playing wise, my warrior is a berserker, charging in and smashing away without regard for friend of foe. Try doing that in a group, no matter what your RP reasons and you're toast. So, I don't bother.

Interestingly, if there wasn't the option of being offense oriented, and I HAD to be Defensive constantly, I'd rank warriors higher than priests. Since the option is there, but I cannot in good faith USE it in a group, it's more like a self-directed Taunt than anything and destroys my enjoyment of the class.

I agree. I'm just more optimistic because I hope they make some kind of adjustments with talents.

That's something I hope for too. But I feel our untalented damage is gimped compared to untalented warriors and mages damage. So our talents would have to be extra potent to bring us up to speed, or we'll remain gimped damagewise in my opinion.
