Funcom extends free offer into 2006
Oslo, Norway - January 14, 2005 - Hi everybody and welcome to the first AO newsletter of 2005. First of all we would like to mention that the free Anarchy Online offer has been a tremendous success and will be fully extended throughout all of 2005 and into 2006. Anarchy Online has more users than ever before and the game is setting records on an ongoing basis, with more active players now than seen in the month of launch more than 3,5 years ago. We see this as great news for the entire community since AO is more vibrant and alive than ever before. As a result of this Funcom is adding additional customer service staff to the AO team to make sure that we can maintain our high level of customer service towards all customers.
As most active players have noticed we are launching content update 15.8 to the live servers in the near future. The new high-level alien playfields are only available for owners of the Alien Invasion expansion pack, and should prove to be a massive, different and fun challenge for veteran players. In regards to the updates coming in we would like to point everyones attention towards a letter from Game Director Morten Znore Byom . In the letter, which can be find in its entirety on the official forum, Morten goes through what you can expect in 15.8 while also outlining the content update which will go into 15.9. Here are some excerpts from Mortens letter to the players:
Letter from Game Director Morten Byom on 15.8 and 15.9 content updates
After having focused heavily on Alien Invasion and raids with the current patch cycle, when it came to considering the content for the next patch I wanted to address one of the things that our veteran players have raised with us frequently in feedback, and thats the options available for gaining Shadow Knowledge and Faction in the later Shadowlands zones.
In 15.9 we will be introducing a series of new quests to the Shadowlands zones that will provide players with additional ways of gaining SK. We will also add XP modifiers to indoor areas providing players with additional places to acquire SK.
We will also be looking at new various ways to gaining faction. While I can't release any more information about that at the present time, I wanted to take this opportunity to assure our veteran players that improving the overall gaming experience in the Shadowlands is an important goal for the team and me.
We will of course also be continuing the process we started with 15.7, addressing and tweaking existing content and items, like the reduction of spawn times in the last patch, and removing the unique tags from symbiants and spirits in 15.8, this process will be ongoing and will address some of the areas our players have told us are important to them.
These are exciting times for Anarchy Online and I hope that as Game Director I can continue to drive the game in ways that will keep our players entertained and as excited about the future of Rubi-Ka as I am!

In this newsletter you will also find a link to four new wallpapers. The three new art wallpapers shows the first examples of Funcom art from Stian Dahlsett , the newly appointed Art Director for Anarchy Online. The other one shows a lander many will see in the alien raid zones which will be added in 15.8. Moreover we have also made the entire Anarchy Online soundtrack volume 2 available for download . The soundtrack was released in a limited edition through the Funcom store last year, and we would now like to share this fantastic piece of music with all of you.
We are also happy to see how active our players were in hunting Rhinoman Bashers on Rubi-Ka in order to raise money for the Rhino case A total of 57000 (!) Rhinoman Bashers were killed in the campaign period, and Funcom will thus donate the promised 3000 USD to Savetherhino organization. We are sure the money will be put to good use, aiding them in their cause to save the future of this majestic animal. Funcom and Save the Rhino international would like to thank everyone who participated in this good cause.
That was it for this time! See you on Rubi-Ka
Best regards
