Thanks!

Cool, although I do wonder if this will make for less traffic, since this is now separate from Logged Out.

Lenilya
05-08-06, 04:33 PM
If anything, more threads will be posted now. Most of the 'core' SH otaku types didn't want to clutter Logged out and draw the ire of the close-minded.

Now posts can be made on every little series we feel like.

I meant otaku in the ignorant english geek anime street cred version, not the true shut-in JP obsessed unemployed version.

Oh i know but if you got technical about it some of us are not even close to American otaku heh. But if we just talkin loosely then ya i guess your right :P.

Lenilya

American Otaku are simply nothing more than generic anime fans that think they are somehow cool using a japanese word out of context to describe themselves, not knowing the truth behind the word.

Most of us here are beyond that.

I imagine not long with the threads still appearing in LO with big MOVED tags next to them.

We seriously need a better name for the forum though. Like "Japan Rules" or "Loser Central" or "Tentacle Rape HQ"

Lenilya

Nah. I dispise people that call themselves otaku.

SH Anime works just fine, unless we pool together and come up with something better, that most of us can agree on, that isn't stupid, or unfitting of the other forum titles.

Wow... now Logged Out will only have game spoilers and political bickering.

The way God intended. Its funny cause I really liked it when there was a separate political forum also.

Although, Hordubar hasn't posted a thread in ages, so it's not much of an issue anymore.

Cheers for the new forum.

I didnt originally call myself Otaku but I have so many people calling me that I catch myself doing it on occasion. And sometimes in jest.
Most of the time they insist im "Otaku" because I have such a large collection. But I dont consiter myself such but I have to bow to Stalk's knowlage with great reverence. :b

Ok you guys got your forum, got me in a weak moment of prepping for e3 and I green lighted it.

Having it named Anime-niacs is pushing it though. Feel free to call yourselves anime-niacs if it pleases you though ;)

I like anime but I'm no otaku not the Japanese or American version.

Ruccus

I don't know why you'd want it called 'Anime-niacs'. When I hear that I think of Yakko, Wakko, and Dot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animaniacs).

t's time for Animaniacs
And we're zany to the max
So just sit back and relax
You'll laugh 'til you collapse
We're Animaniacs!

Come join the Warner Brothers
And the Warner Sister, Dot
Just for fun we run around the Warner movie lot.
They lock us in the tower whenever we get caught
But we break loose and then vamoose
And now you know the plot!

We're Animaniacs!
Dot is cute and Yakko yaks.

Wakko packs away the snacks
While Bill Clinton plays the sax.
(or We've got wisecracks by the stacks.)
(or We pay tons of income tax.)
We're Animaniacs!
Meet Pinky and the Brain who want to rule the universe.
(or Meet Ralph and Dr Scratchansniff; say hi to Hello Nurse.)
Goodfeathers flock together; Slappy whacks 'em with her purse.
Buttons chases Mindy, while Rita sings a verse.
The writers flipped; we have no script
Why bother to rehearse?

Cast : We're Animaniacs!
We have pay-or-play contracts.
We're zany to the max
There's baloney in our slacks.

We're Animanie,
Totally insaney

DarthEnder
05-10-06, 03:12 AM
Exactly, we'll totally trick that Warner Bros. cartoon demographic into coming here, and then....whoa baby!

Stalk

For the record, I am totally against the title, Anime-naics. Funny as it may be. Safehouse Anime is more to the point.

Thanks Fricka.

Never much cared for that trio and was always annoyed that they were "Anime-"niacs. Because it makes you think of anime and its definatlly not that.

They're animated ('To impart interest or zest to; enliven') maniacs ('A person who acts in a wildly irresponsible way'), as well as animation. The title 'Animaniacs' fits the cartoon very well.

Urusai
05-11-06, 10:01 AM
Oh I wont deny that. Its a perfect fit and before I was really into anime I didnt care at all that they were named that.
But when I tell some people that im into Anime they say some comment about Yacko, Wacko, and Dot. Its like they live under a rock or something.

I'd be mildly impressed if someone brought up Animaniacs in that context, it shows at least some taste. Better than just eyes glazing over until the conversation moves to American Idol.

But I'm definitely in favor of a different, something room-based like most of the rest of the House. I just can't come up with anything.

Aura

I suggest "the Hall of Mirrors". It calls to mind a Naruto episode with Zabuza... but then again, it came to me while I was at this weird palace in France where some historical document was apparently signed... so take it with a grain of salt.

I have friends who call themselves Otaku :|

And yeah, it's annoying sometimes. They tend to bunch me into that name, as well, and I'm like "k, I kinda like anime - I don't even keep up with it as much as you guys do"... sad part is I end up smelling like Otaku long before they do (cuz I'm a fat bastard, ask Aura).

Stalk

I don't really mind people calling themselves Otaku. In america, it's just a cool way of defining themselves. The word it was derived from may be quite negative, but it's hard to say something like "Oh my god, you guys are using the word "Otaku" so qrotesquely, look at the original definition, you call yourselves that!" then proceed to say what their favorite hentai are, how Tom and Jerry are not anime, scream "I am fujoshi!!!!!!" like it's a wonderful thing, add -san to their own names, Motoko Ksunagi moe~, write Tohsaka Rin's name as Rin Tohsaka, or Tohsaka Rin assuming Tohsaka is her given name (or any other character).

You get the idea. I try to encourage the proper use, or rather more importantly, a standard of use of words. Regardless of that, whether you call yourself one or not is a personal decision, one I prefer people to make an informed decision on, knowing the history of the word it's derived from, rather than jumping the bandwagon.

Like the 96% of jackasses who are merely jumping the bandwagon, and the 4% who should know better but call themselves it anyway due to low self-esteem and the need to fit in.

In other words, either way they get my scorn ^^
