View Full Version : Help me find movies.
I am interested if anyone knows any movies primarily about/involved with Musical instruments. Such as Classical, Orchestra, etc.
Became really interested after watching "the Pianist" "Nodame Cantabile(anime btw)"

The Red Violin is an awesome movie.
I've been wanting to see this movie for a while, just never got around to it, but the song itself is hauntingly beautiful.

Billie Holiday wrote words for it too, the song is history, but there's a bit of embellishment as far as history goes.

Captain Corelli's Mandolin
The Piano (kinda)
De-Lovely
The Phantom of the Opera (if you count that, like the most recent version the best)
And its technically not focused around a single instrument -- but School of Rock is movie about music with a lot of classic instruments and its pretty awesome :P

Red Violin is an incredible movie outside the topic of music. But in addition to that the violin pieces that are sprinkled liberally around it are done by one of the worlds greatest violin players specifically playing them for the different pieces of the movie.

Seconding Trolo's recommendation, go watch Amadeus (http://imdb.com/title/tt0086879/)

School of Rock & Pick of destiny come to mind :p
on a more serious note, Tous les matins du monde (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103110/) is a nice movie on the life of a Viola da gamba (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viola_da_gamba) player in the court of Louis XIV, in Versailles

Amadeus!
All the rest are super super boring. But then, you said you liked The Pianist.
Another vote for Amadeus.
Amadeus is the shiz.
Immortal Beloved is very well done also. Like Amadeus, they twist a mystery around the factual elements of Beethoven's life. Gary Oldman is always teh win too.
I was just watching Amadeus over the weekend, because I got a copy of Imageready and was trying to work on some animated gifs. Anyone have requests from the movie? I could use some practice.
Oh and yeah, it's one of my favorite movies. TOO MANY NOTES.
Thanks for advice folks. As for Amadeus, I didn't mention it but I must have watched it at least 10 times throughout the years, :) great movie.

Both Fantasias are pretty good. Meaning Disney Fantasia, not American Idol Fantasia.
