Yes, I heard from Glippo that Aidden was setting it up last night, but I have no clue how to get to it if it's set up yet. I installed it and although a big laggy on this machine, it's very very nice.

Could one of the mods or anyone involved tell us if it's up and if it is, how to get there? Edited by: Pedric Cuf at: 6/19/02 3:59:41 pm

You know what would be absolutely, spectacularly cool? A city campaign centered on the doings of a certain Thieves' Guild, and the Safehouse they gather at to wheel and deal, swap stories, and plan "jobs."

Now that would be one cool NWN campaign.

We are working on it...

Although they have not yet released the Linux server files yet...

So even though the module might be done, we cant run it on the safehouse servers until they do..

Quick question, are you able to convert modules that were created in the beta toolset?

Ah, ok. Thanks for the update Aidden.

Dunno...
Didnt take the time to actually create one in the beta toolset

No. You can't port anything in the beta toolset to the full version.

Yeah, a NWN safehouse where everyone could hang out would be sweet. Personally, I want to see a gauntlet. A big big thing of traps, locks, invisabo monsters, ect.

Just curious, will the characters allowed be server characters or local characters? Lose all the work we've done in single, but much safer against hacking if we do server, and since it's 24/7, server characters has my vote.

Remmi

If there's one thing this ol' dwarf can't stand it's twinks (with elves being a close 2nd!) so server vault would be me vote. But on the flip side, it's cool to show off all yer nifty gear and gadgets that ye've accumulated in yer adventuring career.

I think it'll come down to what's feasible as far as adventuring career is concered on the Safehouse server. Issues like, can we provide enough adventures to support everyone (eg 100+ players)? IOW, if it's a server vault how is everyone going to "level up" and develop their characters?

Anyway, I'm not all that familiar with the server rules yet so I can't really say for sure. I do recall talk of a setting that would "evaluate" a character's gear and level but I don't know how it works. But we'll all put our noggins together and come up something soon...

Surely issuing every Safehouse person with an 'Idjit Thwappin' stick' at level one MIGHT be construed as Twinkage?

I understand your attitude to elves though. Envy can be hard to cope with.

<u>Remmi:</u> You need to decide if the Safehouse will be an adventuring server or just a place for rogues to gather, chat, compare notes, etc.

If you want to have adventures, I recommend having a vault and setting standards for Safehouse characters. If you just want it to be a place to hang out online, I think you should let people port over their favorite play character so they can show off the neat stuff they get elsewhere (I'd also recommend an arena for PvP duels in that case).

Aelodyn, we have plans to do both. One dedicated server will host the Safehouse "module" and will most likely be for gathering and chatting only. While a second server will be used for running adventuring modules.

So we *could* do something like allow all characters into the Safehouse server for chatting but only let "Safehouse" built characters into the adventuring modules.

I wonder if you can have TWO copies of a character with the same name...one Local and one Server...? Anybody know? That way you could have one copy of your character for the Safehouse and one for adventuring.... Of course even if it doesn't support this we could simply create our characters with slight variations in name like "Remmi" and "Remmi the Ornery".

I seem to remember being able to have a server and a local version, but I'm at work and cannot verify that.

You can have more than one character with the same first name at least, not sure if exactly the same first and last names makes a difference.

I have often thought a Thieves World type setting would be pretty cool in NWN. Whether or not it could be realized to its fullest extent im not sure. Heres kinda what i was thinking....

Massive city module divided into lots of districts.

Various theives guilds vying for control. PvP enabled.

Establish "control" areas. Not exactly sure how i would do this yet, but basically have a way for a guild to take control (or more specifically, have the ability to ply their trade in the area with litte fear from authorities) of an area or district and thus get an influx of gold per week because of it. So rival guilds trying to do some work in the area would have a really rough time (like increase the chances of guards finding them, etc).

Thick political atmosphere so there would be lots of bribing, pay-offs, manuvering going on in the upper ranks of the cities officials.

I've already got several local Nymms from doing exports at different levels. Also think you can have a server character of the same name without a problem. - Nymm

Heh, hope yas do have two versions Remmers. Cause i can only play Single Player (non online) as of now, dang 433 Celeron!

Hope there is a Place to import characters from Single Player. Cause I dont believe this dwarf is going to do much online adventuring until I can upgrade this computer.

An important thing to remember when designing a thieves guild is lots of exits.

Thieves guilds don't repel assaults. They have windows, fire escapes, planks or ropes to adjacent buildings, entrances to the sewers, all designed so when the city guard comes a knocking the people inside can scatter and have a good chance of not getting caught.

Also, it should be next door to a tavern.

I think thieves might bunker down and let their traps take care of their invaders though.

I like the lots-o-exits idea. And there BETTER be a bar and LOTS of CHEAP alcohol for sale at it. Everyone in EQ knows me as the drunk for a reason.

The linking of modules (aka worlds), would be an awsome place for the safe house...*mmm..beer*...A great gathering place for rouges of all races (cept dem stinking stunties), to just sit in the dark corner *brood* till we had something open up that interested us.

Perhaps the Safe House could be a great jumping off place for servers that may not be up 24/7, a place for us to store our characters and go into worlds we know are well done (a.k.a. approved by the rest of the Safe House). The linking of servers is something that can turn this into a real MMORPG, with a place like the safe house that is up all the time we would have a place to store legit chars, hang out till an adventure that intrests us comes along (the chat rooms have already been taken over by l33t d00dz who Pwn you..or some crap like that) etc....

Just a thought since I have a city idea where the Rogue's are acutally the good guys helping the "people" agianst the tyranny of the merchants and nobles...umm..mebbe too much like rl for a good fantasy but anyway I digress..heh

p.s. I promise the spelling in my modules will be much better than this post.

toxickglobal, that's the beauty of the system. We can link up as many servers as we need/want.

I can't wait I've already got a working bar/inn with locking doors, a basement, kitchen, training area, and several NPC's to interact with. Some areas have escape/bolt holes.

Had a bit of a time with some scripting issues, but now I think i can just about find anything I need on the NWN Forums.

The place is called ****'s Last Resort - after a favorite bar of mine in Cleveland/Boston/other areas. If you are familiar with ****'s then you know the attitude of the empoyees. Let's just say they are unique in their attitude toward patrons.

Is it possible to create a type of beer, which when u drink causes u to lose control of your character and your character will do random acts of silliness such as jumping onto a table and stripping/dancing etc. ?

braincandy99
07-04-02, 07:40 AM
that would take alot of coding, but it could be possible. They'd have to add a spell, and then make a potion have that spell effect.

not alot of work has gone into custom spells at this point in the mod community, but it is being worked on. dunno how much control they'd get. It could kinda be like a fear spell, except looks for a placeble object and runs circles around it instead of looking for a wall. also dunno if you can effect a characters inventory with a spell, it could work similar to disarm.

So I say, there are better programmers than I out there that could forseeably code such a spell to put on a potion to add to the silliness. I expect though, that it would be a feature added much later due to demand.
(I'd say it'd go in before any mini-games, but there's already tutorials using poker out there.)

Personally, I don't agree that the server should only support characters we meet there.

I wouldn't consider a virtual safehouse as a place I wanted to go to adventure and get exp. I'd rather it be a place I can visit to chat with people and drink between regular adventures. With a bunch of rogue stuff around so we can play with our skills if we want.

But as far as leveling content, I mean, whats the point?
