I'm playing the setting amusingly entitled "D&D Hardcore Rules." Being a longtime D&D player, I view the game's default difficulty as laughably easy. Can't be critted? Max hit points every level? Pfft. D&D is supposed to be challenging!

If you are a melee the differences between normal and hardcore rules are very few. Now if your a mage/sorcerer it gets much harder (you hit your hencmen with your AoE's and they will turn on you). With the craptacular pathfinding and the inability to make my henchmen sit still it has added some real challenge to the game.
