It’s been no secret that we, the Safehouse staff, have been considering migration away from ezboard the past few months. We’ve been hard at work setting up a new solution and, in light of today’s ezboard outage, it seems as fine a time as any to start our open beta.
Please read this entire article, as I hope to pre-emptively answer some basic questions.
1) Do I have to re-register?
Yes.
2) What about my user name?
Please register on the new board with the same name you use on ezboard or a newly desired name. DO NOT attempt to register with the name of another user jokingly or otherwise (i.e. don’t try to steal someone’s user name.) If you find that someone has taken your existing user name, please contact us at shmods@thesafehouse.org . We’ll verify your ezboard name and make it available to you on the new boards.
If you take someone else’s user name, we’re going to be VERY heavy handed about this. You’re going to get banned. Also, chances are good that the entire staff AND the person who’s user name you took are going to have to vote unanimously to allow you back on.
I apologize personally if this policy seems heavy handed, however this one issue has the potential to cause us the largest headache. It’s one that’s easily avoidable if everyone plays nice. So, now that that bit of unpleasantness is over...
3) Where’s my Root Cellar access?
It’s coming. It’s going to take some time to set up, be patient and please don’t flood us with e-mails. We know you don’t have access yet and will announce a time when it’s appropriate to contact us if you are still missing access.
4) What solution are you guys changing to?
We’re migrating to phpbb.
5) Will the posts from ezboard be moved over to the new boards?
Yes. Maybe not all of them, but all the important/recent ones. Ezboard has to be up first. Since it’s not at the time of this writing and I had planned on testing the migration tonight, I’ve decided to go ahead and open up beta tonight instead. What can I say? I’m a maverick.
