Yesterday WorthPlaying.com published this article (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=16309) in which EverQuest producer Robert Pfister talks about the upcoming upgrade of the EverQuest engine.
"With re-writing the entire graphics and collision system, players can expect the current and new world (new graphics) to play faster for them, targeting to be more accurate, NPC pathing to be more accurate and realistic, animations on newly built NPC and PC models to be more realistic, as well as the improved visuals with the new graphics."
Pfister talks about DirectX 9, how the upgrade will be phased in, and how the upgraded engine will be of a benefit to you.
He also mentions that the move to Dx9 will force a small minority of EverQuest players into upgrading their graphics card. I believe he is mainly referring to those using 3dfx based cards (Voodoo, Voodoo Rush, Voodoo2, 3, 4, and 5, as well as the Banshee). 3dfx went bankrupt over three years ago, so there are no official Dx9 drivers for those cards.
If you’re using any ATi "Radeon" class card, or any nVidia "GeForce" or "TNT2" class card, you just need to make sure you’ve installed graphics card drivers with Dx9 support (Catalyst 3.0 or higher for ATi cards, Detonator 43.45 or higher for nVidia cards). If you have any question or concerns regarding your system’s support, feel free to post them at The Safehouse Workshop (http://forums.thesafehouse.org/viewforum.php?f=6).
