For those of you that like half-life I think you would like this game.
So far I have found the game to be great.
My only beaf is there seems to be no way to save at any point but maybe I am missing something since I was too busy trying to sneak through the jungle and what not.

Cannot save at any point, must cross invisible checkpoints.
So you mean you actaully can get the game to run? Mine is flaking out, graphical glitches, and crashing. Or did the patch that just came out fix it?
I love this game. After a few patches come out I'm sure it'll prove tobe an excellent game. Not having any problems on my computer and I'm playing with max settings.
Super duper high recommendations.

Freaking Trigens do way too much damage in melee.
And I'm getting a little tired of the 'guy sees you from 1 klick away (Just about the edge of visible range) on a completely different island and you need to spend 5 minutes just trying to figure out where you got shot from.'
The only other problem I have is that the further I get from the start of a level, and the larger the area is, the worse my performance gets when using 'Cryvision'. It really sucks in an area where you need to use it, and your performance drops to 4 fps at the lowest settings when you turn it on.
Other than that, the game is lots of fun, and much longer than I thought it would be.

I not had any problems running the game. I just loaded it up and it runs fine.
Running it on amd 2800, 9600 pro, and 1 gig of Ram.
Now I only gotten to the carrier so I am not far into the game I am guessing but it is certainly everything I would ask for in a FPS.
I do wish I could save because there are times I need to just go and have not gotten through an area. Hopefully these auto save areas will stay in relatively small chunks like they have so far.

I'm running it on a 2.53, Geforce 4 ti4800, 512mb ram.
It runs great in low quality at 1024x768, unless I turn on CryVision (If you're only at the carrier, you'll get this later).

Finally made it to the pumping station.
Game has a nice flow to it.
I tried to sneak past some areas but it seems like at some point you have to fight the bad guys any way.
Is this true or am I just really bad at sneaking?

Some areas are near impossible to sneak through. Namely some of the hallways, etc.
They do give you a number of options, and most levels (even the indoor ones) usually have more than one way of going through them.
3.2 GHZ Raedon 9800XT 1GB DDR RAM, gee should I play it on low? *rubs it in*
I'm really liking it. I try to sneak past usually, but one thing annoys me is that there is not enough sniper bullets. I love sniping from long distances. Not that gimp stuff where the head is the size of 1/4 your monitor kind of sniping, but the kind where the head is only about 3 pixels by 3 pixels. That's awesome.
Lack of bullets is holding me back though. I @#%$ loved the Helicopter VS Hang Glider fight that owned. Hang Gliders > Helicoptors kthx. I kept trying to see if I could fly and get on the helicoptor but failed every time, ah well.

Talk about playing it differently.
It never ocurred to me to try to fight the helicopter while on the hang glider. I actually evaded it and swooped into the jungle and then delt with it from the safety of the jungle cover.

You hold your breath while sniping, yes?
Holding breath is good.
Of course,
I'm not really sure why holding your breath makes you zoom more, though. When I hold my breath, my eyes don't have that cool zooming effect

No never thought to hold breath while sniping to help steady aim.
Funny thing is I often found myslef holding my breath when squeezing off rounds. Guess it is my old army training.
I just would always lay prone to snipe. Usually though I do not snipe a lot.
I use sniper rifle to take out dangerous or key targets. Like snipe the tower guards or maybe snipe a target that will explode if it has a lot people around it.
M14 is currently my favorite weapon not counting vehicle mounted weaponry.

I havent had a chance to read up on this much as of yet, but was curious about the multiplayer aspect of it. Is there any? And if so is it adversarial aka. Call of Duty or can it be played cooperatively like the Rainbow Six series?
Well, I almost never play FPS games online. So I wouldn't know. But from what I am told, it is pretty fun.
Anyone know when it'll be out on XBox? I only saw a TBA on the release list at IGN.

The lack of a quick save actually makes the game play much better, imo. It forces you to want to stay alive and keeps things from getting trivial.

I would agree accept for the point sometimes people, me included, just need to stop playing and if you are into a level with no ability to save you either have to leave the pc on all night and next day till you have time to play again or you turn it off and start over.
Single player games really have no reason to do this stuff. If a person wants it to be more challenge they can save less often. The beauty of single player games is that the way I paly has zero impact on anybody else but me.
By the way I had the auto-save function save me in a position that was a death trap. Made me have to go all the way back to the previous auto save and start all over.
Now I am not somebody who saves every 5 seconds but having a save feature is basic these days sort of like having a customisable GUI should be in MMORPGs.
Last note I heard you can in fact save at anypoint by issuing a console command but what a pain.

Not a problem for me as I never turn my PC off. The more I turn it on and off the faster my components burn out. I just rebooted for the first time in months the other day heh.
I like the save point feature, because I almost always forget to save. It makes things much more interesting For example, on the carrier, when you get to the top you have to fight against like 30 people AND a helicopter AND two people on gatling gun turrets.
And you save in the room just below. It took a lot of trail and error to get past that scenario, what pissed me off even more is SPOILER WARNING when you get to the little boat, I couldn't find a way to lower it.
So without thinking it through, I jumped on the boat. It still didn't lower, so I shot one of the chains. And I fell down into the water ><
So I had to restart, and get killed a few times, finally make it back, still couldn't find a way to lower the boat, so this time I shot both chains, watched the boat fall, and jumped off the carrier into the water. Was suprised I didn't die. Got on the boat and left
I think my method was pretty unusual so I was wondering what is the right way of getting on the boat? Or was that the way?
But anyway it made the game much more challenging for me. In games like final fantasy where you can save anytime, I can breeze through them without any difficulty at all.

Well let me tell you I had similar experience with that boat.
I did the falling thing and starting that level over a couple times.
Then out of frustration while staring up at the boat from the ground below I shot the thing and lo and behold they chains broke.
Do not get me wrong I enjoy the auto-save function just there is no reason not to offe a manual safe in conjunction with it.
If you think the game is trivialised by being able to save all you have to do is not save and problem solved.
I use to leave my PC on all the time for similiar reasons but I think these days that is not really true any longer. I also then get to save some electricity by turning off my pc and do not have to listen to the fans churnning while I am watching TV or something.

I did the exact same thing. But I just shot the other chain from down below (You can get above the water right next to the carrier on the sand), and got on it that way.

I had similar issues with the boat. I first hopped on it and when nothing happened I just shot at the chains out of frustration lol. The boat fell with me on it and I died.
Next time I shot the chains and then walked back down to the lower deck, jumped in the water and swam to the boat. Was too afraid to the high jump from the top deck as I didn't want to die again. =i=Mordimer
