PC Gamer reported that NPCs are getting voice overs. I posted about the article in the News section.

Yeah, the thread in news has a link to a 30 meg version of hte same movie, and Gamespot has a ridiculously tiny want so you'll sign up for their lame subscription thing :P

EQII main site Voice over movie.

Something like 70,000 voice over lines. Raith will be reborn in EQII. Can't wait.

PS. anyone notice the cow walking in the background? Something about that just struck me as cool. lol Edited by: Raith Fennin Ro at: 3/31/04 8:17 pm

Anybody notice this in one of the press release posts?

• A new, massive online world for thousands of players to explore, filled with danger, adventure and mystery
• Voices for almost every non-player character (NPC) in the game, a huge project encompassing nearly 100,000 lines and 130 hours of dialog (the equivalent of more than 65 feature films worth of content)
• Unparalleled character customization capabilities. In addition to thousands of pieces of armor, weapons and items users can equip, players will be able to customize their character’s facial appearance to an incredible level of detail and personalization
• 16 races, 50 levels and 24 classes with a branching system that allows players to choose their class as they advance
• No race/class limitations, allowing players to truly choose who they want to be in game
• Player-owned real estate (such as apartments, homes, and guild houses)
• State-of-the art combat, spell and skill systems
• New user friendly game mechanics with reduced learning curve for both new and seasoned players
• Trade skills available to all player classes
• More than 160 unique creature types, from Orcs and Goblins to huge dragons and menacing Living Statues
• Incentives for current EverQuest subscribers
• A state-of-the-art, cinematic quality 3D graphics engine capable of improving as hardware technology advances

Am I behind the times here, or is everybody as curious as me?

"Hey guys, remember that idea we had to make a new version of EQ and fix all the problems that we started with in the other one. The one where we wanted to create another era of online players that start out on the same level, the same power and battle through a world of unparalleled beauty side by side without feeling like one player is better than another one?"

"Yeah."

What more is ... who knows. But I'm retired from EQ Live. Contrary to the nay-sayers EQII looks damn good to me. EQ was an awesome game. Period. EQII looks like they kept the quality bits and revamped what needed to be redone.

Totally looking forward to it.

Did anyone else find it chortlesomely ironic that midway through the video, a man asks, "Listen here, d'ye want a real life?" where anger is big and fueled by hydrogen

But... half the time I play with my headphones firmly on my computer and not being listened to. D'you have any idea how annoying combat sounds get after 4 hours of the same sounds over and over and over and over again? The entire point of me buying Spell Awareness was that I wouldn't have to listen for the dispell sound to interrupt because the sounds were soo annoying after a while. The idea of having to listen to NPCs blather on... it's cute and sounds really nice, but I'd want shortcut options in there.

Nice gfx and voices but wtf is up with that 1-1.5fps? Let me guess, EQ2 is such a system hog that it makes my quicktime run slow?

have to admit this particular feature sparked my interest, everything else was seeming somewhat so so, and the whole idea of no PvP included just flips my lid.

PvP is my HUGE complaint about WoWv as well, its ridiculous to make a game based on warcraft where b.net kept it interesting for years and years and not include real dynamic PvP activities that include land control and perks for holding for the winning side. REALLLY PISSES ME OFF> sorry bout the language.

Graphics don't compensate for gameplay...neither do voices. This will get me to buy the game...but continued subscription will be based apoun gameplay....end of story.

Gotta admit, that's a good hook to reel my ass in tho. After seeing that there is no doubt. I will be there.

I still won't be there.

Show me the money four months after release, after the 'We couldn't possibly fudge ANOTHER launch...', after the pretties turn into 'Kay, NOW what?', after the 10th patch that fixes the spelling of Re'thenr to Re'tehner (instead of- the game crashes whenever an npc says 'hail'), after you realize that- omg- SoE is still behind the wheel- Same folks that gave us Assasin's Strike....

Yep...there is NO way I'm buying EQ2 upon launch. I'll be giving it 6 months + so that SoE can prove to me that they won't screw up again.

The most fun I ever had in EQ was the first six months after launch. My biggest worry was that they would create a generic world like SWG did. I don't give a damn if they have problems. Hell, I expect a few. But just the fact that they stayed with hand crafted content and zones gets me excited. Everything else I hear is gravy.

New world to explore. New creatures. New look. OMG actual voice overs. Does anyone remember getting their name or their guilds name up on web sites with discovery credit? Made me damn proud of my guild.

Missing the first six months would be tragic. I'm sure after open beta starts we'll have a better feel for whether Sony turned it into a steaming pile or the ultimate rogue playground.

Same here Raith, the first 6 months were definitely the best. Me and my buddy would be enthralled, sitting around the computer for hours just exploring the world. It was so new and there were so many things to see. I'd love to see them create an interesting world and not just an exact replica of Norrath.

Though I hear what you're saying Raith, I don't know if I'll ever get that feeling from an MMORPG again (even if it is much better mechanically).

I've been there and done that and I don't think playing EQ with better graphics and in different but similiar places with different but similiar races and classes will bring back the 'awe'. Maybe for a few weeks or a month, but not for the long haul.

Of course I could just be cynical, but I'd really like to see something different and innovative (like DAoCs 3 realm system, like it or not at least it was different and gave the game a different focus than level level loot loot level loot loot).

I just hope WoW comes out before EQ2, it would be a tragedy if they came out in weeks of each other.

I don't think EQ2 will suck, but I think SOE will drop the ball and make it suck........

I think Sigil is on to something or at least I hope so. Interviews I read from them make me really hopefull with how they talk in regards to the current 'dumbing' down of todays MMO's and how they think it isnt a necessary step and that its the glue that holds these things together year after year. SOmething like that was the quote I remember anyway, gives me hope.

All sigil is doing publicly is being very cryptic. Although they have pretty much the best of the best at their disposal (Brad and crew).

I don't care what anyone else says really, Brad made a kickass game. When he left, it kind of went into the shitter though. He's going to make a game to be a fun game, not about pumping out countless @#%$ expansions. Yet, he does know how to make a game successful. One of the key elements is the community. It's probably why grouping was so encouraged early on in EQ. People are playing now just so they can keep on talking to their friends that they made. So I'm sure it will be a game based on working together with others.

I have high hopes and expectations of sigil, so I'm looking forward to seeing their release.

I'm looking forward to Sigil's release as well. But isn't that a long ways off? a couple years? EQ2 will be this year. - yeah I know ... but I'm pretty confidant it will come out this year. Probably a little after WoW. WoW looks really good too, but in a different way. I believe EQ2 is going to recover some of the mystique that EQ started with.

Sony is behind eq2 not verant, this launch is totally different with a different company and people behind it.

the same people who for the last 2 years have scored the worst of the worst in customer service issues.
the same people who bring a new lvl of class imbalance with every expansion and continue to ignore the imbalance issues so they can work on yet ANOTHER expansion.

yeah if eq2 isnt the most enbelieveabley shockingly astounding game ever released and the entire support crew isnt hired from scratch with some real incentive to HELP the player/customer base sony can suck a nut. the company has shown time and time again they have no idea how eq works, plays, what the player base wants and that they have no interest in maintaining the player base.

great game? who gives a rip if sony's dev team and customer service crew is behind the scenes
