Wow, a game hasn't made me feel like this for a while... I was simply soloing the dr. vhaz mission, leading up to dr. vhaz himself for xp. I'd reset the mission and do it again, waiting for friends to get on so I could kill him.

You can only solo for so long, I had 3 enrages, 3 lucks, an accuracy, and I got an idea.

I went to my contact. Picked up 4 enrages, 5 lucks, and 1 accuracy total. I was gonna solo Dr. Vhaz. Being a claw scrapper, with followup loaded with a 20+do acc, and a 20do to hit buff. I figured, I'd hit the bad boy. Claws being lethal, I had a huge advantage, I'd shred him. I wasn't sure I could do it, but I was crazy enough to try.

Popped all 10 inspirations, popped hasten and I went all out. It was going great, I got him down to 25%, then inspirations wore off, then I ran out of endurance, I ran away, rested, he chased faster then I expected and I got hit with a 900 damage gernade before I could get up :P.

Freaked out, pumped with adrenaline I hammered it back to my contact, and reloaded with 5 lucks and 5 enrages.... I could get back before he regenerated! Sped back to the mission point, and I got there, he was at 75%!!!! Hasten wasn't charged yet, but I popped all 10 inspirations again. When he hit 60%, hasten popped, so I slammed it. Got him to about 5%, inspirations wore down, I was down to 20% endurance, but I held fast. getting hit for 200... 3 hits I'd be down. Luckily he missed since hasten has a defense buff.

...then he fell.

I couldn't believe it, I hammered the arms of my chair in pure exhiliaration. I'm STILL shaking. I soloed Dr. Vhaz. I couldn't believe it.

Things like this make me love this game. I haven't felt like this from a game for a long time.

Some Supplemental information: level 20 magic claws/regeneration scrapper, with the speed pool. Mission was located in Talos (proximity to new contacts in talos made this all possible.)

Good god, congrats you bastard! So was it more of a :backstab , :heartpun: , or a :horse kind of fight? :b

it was more of a :kroe (crazy bored scrapper), fighting :borg (evil giant collage of body parts).

still in disbelief of me actually pulling it off. it all started with a bored, "Hey, think I could solo dr. vhaz?" tell to a friend.

Nice work!

When I run into purple bosses on my scrapper I run out and fill up with health inspirations and one or two endurance insp. I just gulp down the health boosts when needed, and usually that's enough to live through it. Otherwise I retreat and do the same again. It's never taken me more than two tries using that strategy...of course I've never face Dr. V though hehe.

As a tanker, I have to get damage insp to fight high bosses, buggers regen faster than I can hurt them.

Nice work man.

I'm so jealous! You know, I got this mission and didn't even realize it was the mission I'd finally get to meet the Dr. I sneaked through it, destroying the diseased corpses and didn't even know Dr. V would be there. So I completed it without meeting him. /cry

After sniping him with 7 dmg inspirations on and taking his HP down about 1/8 i decided i'd wait for backup :p That's a serious feat killing him solo. Congrats!

taking his health down an 8'th? wow, that's impressive for one shot... not sure how long inspirations last, but I sat there shredding him for over the duration of two inspirations... with hasten. I was doing around 170 damage a hit with focus (5 damage inspirations really helped with that.) and to my amazement, I even managed to land a knockdown once.

Panamah: That sucks! it's a fun fight, see if your friends have the mission, and help them out :).

Morvan, instead of taking 5 health inspirations, try and take 2-3 lucks... won't need to heal if ya don't get hit. :) lucks are surprisingly effective.

and very funny marbh :P

I stood around and played with him for a while, experimenting different strategies (i'm an energy/devices blaster) and all I can say now is to reiterate what I said before: excellent work. My snipe was regenerated in about 10 seconds (as it appeared on the bar, I know the bar rounds a lot but still...) so if you could keep up that amount of DPS while staying alive...well let's just say I'll never doubt another scrapper again :p

Keep in mind Pratell, I had 5 lucks coursing through my system most of the time, I stood up against him for about what seemed like 30 seconds... due to adrenaline, that might be quite a bit less. He nailed me for 200 a hit... but hit slow. I have reconstruction, so I could restore 180 health when he hit me. I also had 5 enrages, which popped my dps up a ton too, not to mention dr. vhaz's poor poor lethal resist :). I don't think I could have done this without follow up. It's like a mini build up, and aim, rolled into one, with a lesser effect and much much faster recharge. I popped it with a 20 d/o accuracy, and a 20 d/o to hit buff (Thankfully a friend had given me one last week! Can't buy these till 25.) ... which kept me smacking Dr. Vhaz with about 90% accuracy without any inspirations (I tried just one the first time, but I didn't feel I needed it for the second run.)

My friends and I took him out last night. 3 of us.

Fire/Energy Tanker (me) 17
Energy/Ice Blaster 17
Empathy/Radiation Defender 18

Took maybe 5 minutes. Got close a few times. As long as I kept his attention on me, there were no problems. He didn't hurt me that badly and the Empath was always able to heal me just enough. Also have Healing Flames so that helps.

A majority of the damage was, of course, done by the Blaster. I was still taking sizable hunks before I ran out of End though. Then I didn't want to swing for fear of my toggles dropping.

Very cool fight, the only problem is that I thought the reward was usually a SO. None of us got one. I did get 1200 influence though and my next level.

He always gives a SO, I'm willing to bet one of the group members didn't have any room left in the Enhancement inventory. If the winner of the reward doesn't have room for anything new, it poofs. :beatup

When I finally killed him, none of us got an SO either, and I know we weren't full.

I finally got to meet the good Dr. after having missed him on my own mission. We got a tech dmg SO.

Man what color was he to you? everytime we fight the SOB he's purple. That's pretty cool soloing him.

He was bright purple to me, of course... hehe. I got a magic S/O damage when I killed him. So far every time he's gone down he's dropped a s/o.

As an Arch-Villains, he cons his level + 5 I believe, so he'll tend to be purple to you all. His base level is the same (or +1 if there's 6 of you) to the owner of the mission, so it means you can still hit him, but he has got a heap of HP and fast regen.

Done him 5 times now with friends, and had a SO drop 4 times, nothing on the 5th.

Against an Arch-Villain, luck inspirations don't tend to do too much if you don't have other avoidance, as taking 1 still leaves them above the to-hit cap (95%), and they have a base of 125. Fortunately, his damage is all smashing / lethal though, so most tankers can mitigate it.

It's awesome when you meet him, and he looks damn cool. Really exciting when you meet arch-villains, we took out the Clockwork King a couple of weeks ago, and are really loking forward to our next Taskforce for another scoundrel.

The screenshots all seem to turn out very well from CoH. A few others all taken by my mate Si-Klone are at our Superteam site made from a dozen ex EQ players on Euro time. He took Superspeed, Superjump, and hover for going exploring and taking pictures of random villains. Worked up an impressive amount of debt too. If only he'd thought of invisibility !! (stupid non-rogue player).

The clockwork King's my favourite, and Babbage looks damn cool aswell due to shear size. Look for the next exciting episode in a couple of weeks time when we do our next taskforce.

All the screenshots are in the publicity centre area, viewable by anyone, feel free to take copies of them etc.

I'm the handsome guy on fire :)

How do you take screencaps with the interface still present? I like to get pictures of my friends saying stupid things but I can't figure it out--the only workaround I've found is to alt+tab out and then paste the printscreen into paint.
