So.. err.. .um... what exactly are they used for now? Everything I currently have that uses skill points goes up on its own with use. The only thing I ever used them for were stats. Now those are gone...

Trade skills?

Does Dual Wield still cost points?

Yeah weapons skills still cost you, but its minimal and they go up naturally.

It seems like such an odd implementation. I suppose they can help you advance quickly. I know in EQ I all but stopped using them as they all climbed themselves. Perhaps there is higher-end mechanics in the works that will require them.

And is it just me or is some abilities auto-maxing when you ding? I haven't had to "improve" stealth or pickpocket since the last push. Combat skills still need to raise, but other skills don't.

This is the one aspect of the game that I just "don't get" so far. Ihaven't started the trade skills yet. Probablly going to try those out tonight.

No, I mean you have to buy some skills with points rather than coin when they become available. Dual Wield cost 30 skill points in the last push, so you had to have them saved up.

If you want to learn a trade, you need points, and it takes a ton of points to get journeyman level in a trade.

And IIRC my rogue needed 200 points to buy the firearms skill, so that's hardly minimal.

Ah, gotcha. Hadn't paid much attention to costs lately.

Bows costs 100. Swords 30, Dual Wield 30.

Interesting thing I noticed: If you learn Dual Wield, you'll automatically have maxed skill in it, while if you learn Swords, you'll start from skill 1.

As far as I tested until now, you can unlearn any skill you learn with skill points & get them refunded.. and learning skills is the only thing you can do with skillpoints.

Do you get a full refund for unlearning? I took skinning/leatherworking, but it seems that storebought armor and quest rewards are better than anything I can make.

Do Lockpicking and Poison making cost skill points? Also is it a one off skill cost for Sword, Duel Wield etc, or does it cost more and more skill points at higher levels like trade skills?

p.s. It's been some years since I visited the Safehouse, it's great to see it in such good shape!

As far as I could see, it's a one-off cost. You get the skill with either 1 point (Sword) or your max skill cap (Dual Wield), it's max cap will increase with your level.

Unless there's a skill like "Superior Swords" or something like this, you shouldn't have to pay more than the first skill points for it.

artisan trades (the highest level) are 600 points.

i think getting a mount is 400 for horsemanship and 100g, but i could be off on that.
