View Full Version : HIgher the level - less impact new powers have?

This is prolly akin to EQ-likeness thread by Wix.. but the trend is here:

In order to gain next "fun" power, you toil 2 more levels that are ever longer the higher lvl you are - to gain a power that changes or adds not much to your char.

Examples are middle-level powers like swift or hurdle to get STA, or the 30+ powers that you just take 'cos there's noth to choose from...

(hope this still does not amount to negative bitchin' but more to the cathegory of "grim observation" heh)

I'll agree with you in that I look forward to enhancement levels MUCH more than power levels, but to say that higher level powers don't matter much is a little short sighted. As a fire/fire blaster, I want to have dirty stinky relations with my 32 power, and I know Leiciphis feels the same way about his (nerf or no).

No nerfing for my power!!! They meant for it to do double buffage! The bug they had wasn't that 1 mob gave two 20% dmg buffs, but that it is only giving those buffs near mobs. It's supposed to buff once around me, and once around mobs. As far as I see it, they're supposed to stack. If I'm in the fray, I still get my happy damage cap.

/makes sweet, sweet love to Fulcrum Shift

Yeah, the problem was that it was doing double buffing regardless of your postition. So long as you tank with me, I'll still get double buffage, it WILL stack over itself - or at least that's what I got from the post on the forums.\

You can make sweet love to fulcrum shift, but I call sloppy seconds.

Yea, my toon is all ****ed up. I get a pet at 31. Powers beyond lvl 31 are useless and I will not take some stupid power just because its there. Looking at my powers before 31, it seems at lvl 20 everything started to go downhill.

The idea of getting the best powers early is great, but in the long run you don't have anything to look forward to. It might be my specific gravity/forcefield build, but I literally have all my best powers except for one.

I am stuck at lvl 30, I can't even bring myself to log in. Once I hit lvl 31,there is nothing for me to look forward to between 32-40. Then with 40-50 still a complete mystery, motivation is hard to come by. Oh, and even with the content update I still have the same limited choices for places to fight.

Slots are nice, but since the game forces you to fight mobs in a certain level range, the extra benefits are not needed. If I am fighting mobs within a few levels, I can wipe the floor with them already. Sure I might end up fighting some purples, but with no reward there is no reason to risk.

I want to like this game, I like this game. I do. But looking whats on my plate, its the same meal over and over and that isn't to appetizing.

My choices were good at the beginning, got bland from 14-30 (with Phantom Army as an exception) and are not starting to get a lot better now that I've hit 30+. I think a lot of the reason is the power pools, in general, aren't as powerful as the primary and secondary pool or they're situational (like travel powers.) At the middle levels I was forced to take a lot more from the power pools.

I agree on 40+ too. By that point I'll have gotten every primary and secondary power I've wanted as well as three power pools. The only powers I'll get from that point on will be ones I sort of wanted but decided against or just "fun" powers. I think they made the mistake of increasing the level without having the 40+ powers to choose from. By that point, most everyone has gotten every power that they've wanted. It also sort of dillutes making a unique character since you aren't forced into such tough choices.

I think one of the things here is there aren't enough goals for people to aim for. I'd like for there to be more things for you to "unlock." For instance, maybe at 35 you get access to a new set of enhancements that have two effects, but you can only use one per ability. At 40, 45 and 50 you can add another. Maybe at 40 and 45 some new power pools open.

Yeah, I wish the game was more challenging myself. I usually try to group with 3-4 others because more mobs does make it harder, but I sort of feel like 90% of the time I'm going into a situation I know I'll win. I had a lot of fun in a mission last night where a Rikti opened a portal and summoned 5 LTs that were a level higher than myself. I even died and still enjoyed almost beating them. Unfortunately, most players don't realize the game would be a hell of a lot more fun if it had those times where your heart is pounding and you don't know if you're going to win. They'd just see it as a nerf. :smirk

Right now I'm motivating myself by looking forward to seeing new content. I just hit 30 so I can now play in Founders' Falls and Brickstown. I'm getting missions with Rikti, Nemesis, and Crey in addition to having some gangs have new, more powerful members. I also am looking forward to hitting 40 and being able to do the outdoor missions.

I'm pretty unimpressed with the Mind Controller choices past level 18. In fact, I don't plan to get any of them, unless I'm totally out of other options.

Make a dark melee / invul scrapper with jumping, stealth and fitness pools.

You will BEG to get more powerslots, because you cannot fit all you want into the template.

I have zero problems looking forward to every power up to 40+ (didn't plan past 40 yet).
