I will buy a new computer soon and was wondering how demanding WoW is on the hardware. Does it run comfortably at 1280*960 with a 9800Pro with all the bells and whistles on? In towns? With a lot of PC chars on screen? Or should I get one of those new graphic cards (ATI X800s). Does the processor speed make a big difference? It used to for EQ.

I can upgrade in a year or so when the AMD socket 939 and pci express stuff is out. So if I can get along fine in WoW with AMD XP 2500+ and 9800Pro, that's what I am gonna get in the meantime.

Thanks.

it depends. I upgraded to a 2GHz processor and a much faster Vid Card, and the game ran much smoother for me in most areas. When you hit high-player-density areas, however, such as the bank in Stormwind (ugh), you will slow down, usually to a dead stop, for a long period of time as your PC loads graphics. Once everything's loaded, however, the framerate becomes livable.

Athlon 2500+

at 1280x1024, all the bells & whistles on, the game runs pretty damn smooth.
Not bad for a $70 cpu. I think most of my issues have been server lag than hardware lag. The game runs smoother than City of Heros.
