Supposedly, someone's found out about detailed Al Qaeda plans to try to get car/truck bombs into the New York Stock Exchange & Citibank in NYC, and Prudential in Newark, NJ. There was no information regarding WHEN these plans were set to be carried out, from what I've heard on the news and radio. So, what's to say that they won't wait until we let our guard back down anyway?

Today, most of the bridges and tunnels are banning & restricting commercial vehicle traffic into the city. At this point, folks living in this area aren't so much 'terrified' as pissed off at all of the inconveniences we've had to put up with in the wake of the attacks 3 years ago. Yeah, we'd like to be safe, but

I know how to stop terrorism - send all of the pissed off New Yorkers & New Jerseyans over to wherever the leaders of Al Qaeda are rumored to be - we'll make sure that they won't want to **** with us ever again.

Does that mean that the radio stations had no information on it, or that perhaps the radio stations were not told any information about it, but someone else does. I don't mind if they don't tell me that sort of stuff, so long as the people in charge of stopping it DO know more details than i do.

Whichever - it's pretty much the same way either way for the public anyway. Media is saying that they don't have any information as to when the supposed attacks were set to happen, and since I don't have a line into the intelligence agencies that supposedly know more, I have to trust the media (which I don't) to tell me what is going on.

One of my questions is, how long will we stay on alert after this most recent rumor of terrorist activity? What happens if planned attacks come the day after security departments decide that it is safe to drop the stringent security?

I am just getting tired of the media giving us very vague information which only is sufficient for spreading paranoia - either tell us nothing, or tell us everything, don't leave us guessing - and George W. Bush saying that "Americans are safer" while we in the NYC area have to deal with "RED ALERT" at least once a month.

I do not think Al Qaeda is ready for such an onslaught of the most pissed off people the US has to offer. It would be a total slaughter. Especially if we had access to vehicles.

They have it on Fox now. They say these institutions have been specifically named in terror threats. Also the transit lines that bring workers to these areas. And the usual computer attacks, and airplane attacks. They got DC in there as well now.

Yeah, and they're also saying that Citibank and Prudential stocks will probably take a hit today because those companies have been specifically named.

Probably why I can't get anything done via phone or email back at Quantico now. I am sure they must be running around like crazies over there. The people of VA tend play up the drama role more than other places I have been.

Still listening to this BS on Fox. I am sure they have good reason for the whole thing but the info is just worthless and seems to be regurgitaion of the same old stuff that goes on everyday.

This would not surprise me. The stock market really bites.

We aren't in NYC, but because we're market-related we received some emails today outlining some extra precautions we're going to implement. Course we're like 2 miles from SAC as well, I don't know if that helps or hurts us. :)

I like the way they keep pluggin the exact time and location that the POTUS will be speaking.

Yah, I personally don't mind the alerts as I've gotten used to them(I go to school in Brookln across from a courthouse in Borough Hall and my wife works in midtown), the panic it causes is somewhat disconserting though. My wife's friend works at one of the targetted buildings(Citibank in Long Island City) and is completely freaking out, even contemplating quitting her job. So you see a mixture of the aforementioned pissed off people and the gutless chickens wanting to move to North Dakota.

I'm a bit torn about it, I suppose its good to give us the information to let the people decide how to deal with it on an individual level and let us, in general, be on the look out for "suspicious activity," but, at the same time, it does create a disruption in the daily routine. On the flip side, I'm not sure if tipping our hand does more harm than good in terms of preventing an attack. Picking softer targets or just holding off until the alert level decreases seems like a pretty simple option for the bastards.

On a side note, I remember than after 9/11 I found it so weird seeing national guard or NYPD in body armor with light SMG's or Machine Guns patrolling Penn Station, Flatbush Avenue, etc., now, its so commonplace.

I fully agree though, so many NY'ers are naturally jaded, angry and armed as is, send us over there and you'll see some real ruthlessness :evil

Of course yu can't rule out the conspiracy theory. You know elections and all. Seems like if things were as serious as the news is hyping it up to be then they would not be pluggin for the POTUS so much.

It could also be one of many tests terrorist do just to see how we react and things of that nature. Kind of like all the dry runs they do at airports and on planes.

Stock Market reference has me wondering.

What if the threats are real, and they hold true to drop the price of certain stocks? What if there are terrorist organizations shorting those stocks and then issuing threats just to lower the prices so they make more money?

hrmm...

I wouldn't put it past them, honestly. They need to fund their operations somehow, and I'm sure they've got some savvy investors that are routing orders through some of the less-than-scrupulous brokerage houses and other investment companies out there (it is my job to make sure that my company is not doing business with any of these)

They do this for certain. That is one of the reasons why some investment bankers have been harassed under the guise of the Patriot Act. Any bankers that deal with wire transfers from Asian banks will likely get a visit from the DoHS.

Dear Osama,

If Citimortgage were to take an unexpected turn for the worse and all records destroyed, I would vote for John Kerry in your honor this year. Thank you and have a good day.
