computer has windows xp, lan connection.

alright, so i installed xp on my computer while at college (valid paid for copy and everything) and xp seemed to set itself up on the net just fine, don't remember having to fuss through anything to get the computer connected.

Now i'm on thanksgiving break, and i brought the computer home so i could do some work, however, the computer will not pick up the new ip address. Even when releasing/renewing the ip address, the computer constantly brings back my school's ip address and won't take the new one it should be getting from my home.

tried fubbing around with all the settings, auto detect is on and all that jazz...just...won't...work.

must...break... "Pain inside is rising. I am the Fallen One. A figure in an old game. No jokers on my side. I've plunged into missery, i've turned out the light and murderd the dawn"

Dumb question probably but is it set to a static address or dhcp?

is there a dhcp server on your home network?

sounds to me your system isnt seeing a dhcp server to get an address..

try a different cable..

tried a working cable from my sisters computer, still gave me the same error. The other 4 computers in my house are set up on dhcp...as far as i can tell, my computer just won't drop the old ip. I'm gonna try removing my network card, restart/shut down windows, then put the card back in, and see if that gets xp to give the old ip up "Pain inside is rising. I am the Fallen One. Did you have to run any software to get your system to work at school? I know my university dorm connection required some software that really fudged up all my net select options.
