Running win XP Pro, internal sound card. Every so often a keystroke will return that error beep noise, most often when I"m using an arrow key. It otherwise has noadverse effects. Any ideas what it is?

Satan has infested your computer.

Heres how you fix it.. First acquire 1 young priest and 1 old priest. Have on hand numerous amounts of holy water and Crucifix's.

Lock all ingridients in room for 3 days.

Process will be done when there is a light golden brown tone across the top of the PC.

That's funny you mention that... I have the same thing happen at work with Windows 2000. Usually I'm in Excel updating spreadsheets when it happens. It's TOTALLY random and it's been happening since they moved us to that OS. I just tell people it's my computer telling me to take a break.

Are you hitting more than a few keys? The internal speaker can beep when 1) you hit more keys than is recognized at the same time (CTRL-ALT-1-2) and 2) when you've entered more keystrokes into the buffer than the buffer size.

#2 usually only happens if you have a slower computer that takes a moment to update or if your computer is waiting for a certain input and you fill the buffer with other input.

Those are the two that I can think of off the top of my head.

Easiest way to fix it would be to open up the case and unplug the speaker. The thing is only ever useful if you have a hardware failure that makes the machine unbootable, or you've just pulled out Star Flight for some EGA gaming.
