Hey guys, was hoping you could help me with a major error I am having with EQ. After logging on I usually end up going link dead within 10 minutes. After the "You have been disconnected" screen, a dialog box pops up that says "ERROR: Cannot Load EQMain.dll." At this point another windows error comes up that says something along the lines of "error initializing program 0.000005" (which also happens when I run other programs sometimes).
A little about my machine...I am using a relatively new Alienware Area 51 PC. I have a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra (128MB) video card, an Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz, 2.79GHz (x2), 512 MB of RAM, and a U.S. Robotics 56K Fax PCI modem. I am using Windows XP and I have DirectX 9. I am relatively sure it is not my connection that is causing the problem because I have the same speed connection as my old computer and I never had excessive problems like this on it.
To remedy the problem I have tried several things. First I check the bit speed of my modem, and it was 57600 as specified by Everquest.com. I also tried to lower my color quality to 16 and changed EQclient accordingly. After this failed to work I tried deleting EQclient, EQgame, EQmain.dll, etc. and doing a complete file check but this also failed to resolve my problem.
Since I had EQ on my old computer, a comaq presario w/ Windows 98, I decided I would burn the whole EQ directory on several CDs and transfer it over to my new Alienware to avoid long patch times. Also my Kunark and Luclin discs had errors when installing so I could also skip those steps. Could this be causing a problem? If so, what files should I delete to repatch without using the CDs?
I already e-mailed SoE's EQ tech support to see what I might be able to do to resolve my problem. I decided to post here also in hopes maybe someone else has experienced the same problem and could shed some light on a fix. Thanks for your help in advance.
