Okay, first things first. I have been reading alot in this forum about the wonders of mozilla / firebird, and i would like to use them. I am not the best with software so to speak, so if any one could either a) give me a site that tells me how to disable IE and DL and get firebird up and running would be nice. Or B) type it out here, i read in another thread about an auto installer *would be heavenly* sounds like it would help. I use adaware and spybot religiously so popups with IE are pretty non existant for me.
The biggest reason for this is that i will be leaving to join the military and it will be in the fam's hands...which makes baby jeebus cry believe me. Knowing they won't run adaware / spy bot at all, i thought firebird would be a good choice for them. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated!

It's pretty much a no-brainer. Just go to www.mozilla.org/ and download it and install. It'll ask on startup if you want it to be the default, just say yes. Then open IE and it'll ask if you want it to be default; click Don't Ask Again and say No.
Personally I prefer Opera over Firebird, but it's not free. Has a tailored to you ad-box at the top though if you don't register it.

Okay, i downloaded firebird, but when i try to drag the icon to the desktop it tells me im missing a .dll file, yet it works when its still in the folder? Just wondering how i can fix this!
Additionally, i get the "are you trying to get to google page" and removed google from my host files, but when i try to save it it tells me its read only, so i can't really change anything! Im at a loss for what to do, i mean as we all know google is teh pwn and it sucks to not be able to use it! Edited by: Mythas Grimlore at: 12/27/03 8:48 am

Yes, make a shortcut to the executeable, don't move it. Right click drag it and do "Create Shortcut"

I'd run AdAware or something, it sounds like you have a crapload of spyware stuff on your computer.

Yup, sounds like something is either messing with your TCP/IP stack (basically intercepting internet transmissions) or you borked up your hosts file. The only thing you really need in your hosts file is "127.0.0.1 localhost", so just delete it and start over if you have to. -------------------------
