Just what I needed, another computer problem.. I go to insert some new cd I got to listen on my computer the other day, and nothing happens. Open up my computer and my cd drive isn't there. Oh @#%$. It's just not there. My floppy drive shows up, and my hard drive.. no cd removable though. So I try system restore, that doesn't work. Try disconnecting it and reconnecting the drive, that doesn't work. Try going to add new hardware, click on already connected, click on my cd drive and I get this.

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I have no idea what the means or how to fix it, so I decided to borrow my friends cd drive from one of his older computers. Go home, install it and connect the right cables, go to add new hardware, and I get the exact same error. Anyone know how to fix this short of wiping my HD and reformatting?

Have you checked the device manager and see if the system still has it installed? It may be as simple as removing it from there and then reinstalling.

Windows XP?

If so, this worked for me *tons* of times when I was fixing computers:Quote:Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/Curretcontrolset/Control/Class/{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}

On the File menu, click Export.
In the File name box, type savedkey, and then click Save.
Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes. NOTE: If this data type is missing, continue to the next method.
Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
Quit the Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

From here if you want verification before breaking your registry. Amadan :: Child of the Phoenix ::
