all this morning i've been refreshing the worldofwarcraft.com website hopeing to see an update about open beta sign ups perhaps, or at least some sort of update. and it is now 12:30 and the website has been down for almost an hour i guess. so i am so hoping something about open beta (because i have yet to play the game, and am really looking forward to getting a taste of it) so everyone out there pray with me that once it comes online again it says something at least about open beta. I can't believe how addicted i am to a game i have never even played before. I don't think this is healthy.

It's only 10am here. Chances are, most of the Blizzard guys are just now getting their morning coffee at work and catching up on emails and such. Real work won't start for a while, while they take care of emergencies and routine correspondences. I'd not expect any sort of update for another couple hours at least, and honestly, not until later tonight.
they are probably redoing the website completely. Give them some time. My suggestion would be to check back tonight or tomorrow. :)
edit: well, ok, now the site is *sorta* up. Probably will go up and down all day. :)
(i'm looking forward to news too!)
FAQ's for the stress test and for the open beta have now been published on the WoW official website forums.

Very Interesting.
When does the World of Warcraft final stress test begin?
The final stress test begins on November 1, 2004.

if your a fileplanet subscriber you can d/l the stress test/open beta client and get a key also. I know there are going to be some keys from Blizzard as well not sure when they will go out or have sign ups for them.

[s:ab63fc9cf1]Argh, are they only letting closed beta and file planet subscribers into this final stress test?[/s:ab63fc9cf1]
Er, nevermind...answered my own question.
Can I sign up for the stress test if I am not a FilePlanet subscriber?
The final stress test is only available to FilePlanet subscribers. However, the open beta phase will begin shortly after the final stress test ends, and is available to anyone with an Internet connection.
Sad thing is, I'm actually thinking about paying the $16 to File Planet to play...

This asshattery with Fileplanet subscriptions has really turned me off of WoW. I think I'll pick up guildwars and just continue to play war3, hl2, Rome:TW, and the like.

Heh...I did. :)
There is a $7.90 "monthly" subscription that I got... I'll be cancelling when the Stress Test ends. Look for "FilePlanet Basic" and keep refreshing until the number says $7.90 instead of $16.90. Evidently they have some kind of bait and switch going on and they change the number every so often.
edit: Darn, Blusco snuck in the quick version while I was typing and testing this out :)
edit2: fixed a link
Doesn't fileplanet have a $7 subscription too? Shouldn't that also let you d/l the stress test? Don't give them more money than you have too :p
[/me goes and tests this...]
Wow, trippy. Fileplanet is really out to *&^# you over.
If you go to http://www.fileplanet.com/subscribe/wow/index.html and click the Fileplanet Basic link in the lower right, it doesn't always send you to the same place. Sometimes it sends you to http://www.fileplanet.com/subscribe/wow/signup.shtml which wants you to pay $7.90 for a 1 month subscription and access to the WoW test, and sometimes it sends you to http://www.fileplanet.com/subscribe/wow/2457.shtml (not sure if that link will work - the number of the final shtml page is often different, so it may be generated per browser session or something), which wants you to pay $16.90 for a 3 month subscription and the WoW test.
Strange things! But don't pay them $15 if all you want is the WoW test.
Well, they billed my credit card...still waiting on instructions on the download that they said would be arriving in an e-mail.
Seems like there's got to be a better way...

Well, one better way is to wait a week. ;)
Fileplanet whores themselves out to everyone though, it's not just WoW, EQ2 did it, MxO did it (and is subsequently the only flaming pile of dogshit I've ever downloaded from it so far, god... i'd go on, but I hate dredging up the memories. =P) This whole 15 bucks crap started with WoW though, and I was kind of irritated by that too, since the basic subs that get you everything are only 7-8 bucks, instead they try to screw the uninformed by getting them to shell out twice the price, then knowing they'll probably nix the account the moment they get done with the downloading.
Slick business, but yet another wonderful example of asshat capitalism, just like that dumbass 10mil dollar bra from Victoria's Secret. :x
If you don't feel like paying money, and can wait 6 more days, wait it, you won't need a FP sub to get into open beta, if htey do that, they'll alienate alot of their fanbase.
This is brilliant. I've dealt with FilePlanet, got a key 18 hours later, been redirected to the WoW site to create an account, and am now redirected to FilePlanet to download the client--but nowhere on their lame-ass excuse for a website can I actually find the LINK to download the client. Everything I can find is about how to get the key.
Sheesh.
EDIT: Finally found it after searching for 30+ minutes:
