Has SoE ever given any reason why they decided that shields should not block in EQ2?

I always assumed that everytime I see myself get hit but take no dmg that was a block even though it lacks an animation. I know I have seen blade parries.

Hmm, I never saw that with my shaman. I'm still not convinced, I would think they would have put in a "XXX Blocks" message if you did.

I have a feeling they just neglected it as not important or forgot it. I know for fact I have seen "You have parried..." messages with a animation that looks like a blade parry on my predator (sound and sparks flying from blade). I know when running too you will often be hit and take no dmg. Even though this is from the rear I always assumed it was a block or I've evaded the dmg somehow.
On a side note...
Playing a 28 warlock as my main and its intresting playing a caster for a change. Been a rogue in every game I ever played. Still rolled 2 scout classes though out of my 4 slots. Once a rogue always a rogue.
Taking it slower with the scouts to do tradeskills and the like and just plain enjoy them while the caster is just intresting due to being a wizard class but so different from the wizards.

Shields block. There is a message for it just like there is with parry. It is, however, not as common as parrying, even with a tower shield using guardian.
