Firiona is obscure enough to work as a name, it's not like her third grade class bully is going to hear that and go "Hey, that's elfish!", and by the time she grows up video games ought to be a seamless part of the cultural fabric, no stranger a source of inspiration than anything else.

Aryan Justice, though... Oy.

Oh Oh and I forgot and I swear to God this is true

My sister in law teaches in a school in Los Angeles, she has 2 students...twins. Their names are...I'll try to give you the way they are pronounced first....Fe-Mal-Lay and Mal-Lay Jones.

The mom thought it was weird that the nurses had named her kids but sure enough it was written on the little tags on their ankles...Female Jones and Male Jones...so thats what she wrote on their Birth Certificates.

I called my sister in law about the link you posted Deltar. :)

She said she had Female Jones in her P.E. class and on her color guard team at Eagle Rock High School in Eagle Rock CA 4 years ago. My Brother in law...her husband and my husbands brother had Male in his Honors Bio class. SO some "urban myths" are true.

My wife was at a delivery of a girl named Bonka. Mom wanted her to be named Bianca, but either chose to spell it wrong, or didn't know the difference.

"Bianca! B-O-N-K-A"

One of the delivery nurses at that hospital also swears she was at the delivery for twins, Lemongello and Orangello, although she may have just been pulling my wife's leg.

There were a couple guys in my husbands Navy boot camp class. Last names Guzzler and Stains.

All recruits were addressed as "Seaman."

Guzzler became Seaman Guzzler.

Stains became Seaman Stains.

They petitioned the higher ups to change their rank to Fireman instead of Seaman. They were approved.

I mailed an envelope once to a Colonel Ben Adick.

Know five brothers and sisters named Arthangeles, Losangeles, Fernando, Arlando, and Ed.

Work with a woman named Cinnamon Berry.

I've lost count of the number of last names that just slay me. Glasscock, Lipshitz.

Not to mention that there is a dairy farm outside of Dallas named "Four Tits for Texas."

I see an investment banker mentioned from time to time in journals named **** Richardson. That means his real name is probably Richard Richardson. That isn't really a bad name, just a really uncreative one. Then, of course, there is the ex-Wisconsin governor and HHS secretary Tommy Thompson, or Thomas Thompson.

When naming your kids, you also have to watch out for their initials. We had a girl in elementary school whose initials were A S S, which the kids quickly figured out, and was probably the dirtiest word we knew back then.

I was a few IQ points away from being named Marlon Brando(first and middle name). My dad, who didn't speak english very well at the time and was in full panic when I was born said "Marlon Brando" when the nurse asked him what my name was to be. Wisely, she only put Marlon down and I was left without a middle name. I need to track that nurse down someday and give her a hug.

(Sidenote, Marlon sucks as a name, everyone thinks I say Marvin or Merlin when I tell them my name, WTF?!)

Try telling people chuck. They come up with stuff that doesn't even make sense. I actually had this conversation once:

Me: Chuck.
some guy: Judd?
Me: Chuck
some guy: Oh, Chud?
Me: no, Chuck.
some guy: Oh ok, Chug.
Me: Yeah

My son's name is Pirmin. Its pronounced Pier-Min.

People have the hardest time with that name. People always HEAR Herman.

I found out at the end of the school year that one of Pirmin's classmates mom thought his name was Pyramid. She asked me if I was a "New Ager" at kindergarten graduation. I was confused till she said "well you named your son Pyramid so I just thought...."

...It finally dawned on me that the French name they must have been thinking of is usually spelled Arianne.

But in certain places in the US, spelling your babys name the way its supposed to must be a offense punishable by law. And oh yes, that's an ugly baby, she makes you wonder how ugly her parents could be!

My wife's sister and her husband went to school with Peter Palmer. His dad was Richard. His grandpa was ****.

Do people really have the "it happened to me, so I'm gonna do it to someone else" mentality when naming their kids?

When my Mom was pregnant with me the name she planned on giving me if I was a girl was Crystal. My last name is Rock. Yes, I have hippy parents. She won't tell me what she originally had planned as a boy name, just that my grandparents talked her out of giving it to me. All I know is it was a character on the show Dark Shadows.

As for weird names- I had a girl in my high school named Maya Joy Rodd. Lots of fun stupid high school guy chuckles from that one ensued...
