For Those Not in the Know: when a television show is broadcast on an American network and a Canadian network at the same time, the American network has the broadcast changed so that it no longer originates from the American Network, but is in fact a simulcast of the Canadian broadcast.

This leads to a number of infuriating problems:

1) The Superbowl @#%$ sucks - Instead of seeing all the cool commercials which everybody in EQ or on the board are talking about, I get to watch a damn commercial by Bob the furniture salesman with the store on Route X just outside of Halifax :"> . I can't just download these commercials, because Dial Up is the only internet access available where I live. Well it is an option, just a slow and tedious option, like watching Superbowl Lite on Global. So I basically have to pray for a reairing of these commercials at another time, which will probably be during one of those unfunny stupid/butt ugly guy married to a wife in the pretty-beautiful range sitcoms, because Global also seems to have the rights to most shows that are even halfway popular(ER and CSI which are on CTV being the only exceptions I can think of off the top of my head).

2) No previews of 24 - I don't need to see a preview for a show, but it is nice to have the option. Instead of watching the preview, I get to watch a 3 minute presentation by the Global News weatherwoman about upcoming community events in Halifax. Yeah, time to hop in the car and take that 5-6 hour drive to Halifax for the children's book fair . This Overbroadcast of Fox lasts right until the 10' o clock(11 o clock here because of time zones) news comes on Fox. This wasn't a problem last season because Global broadcast 24 at 8pm and Fox showed 24 at 10pm.

I don't know whether the Networks, the Cable company or the Canadian Government(don't put it past them) came up with this stupid policy, but they probably had The Devil himself come in as an Advisor to dream it up.

Do what every other red-blooded Canadian does and go to a bar to watch the Superbowl. Voila, American commericials and a girl that will bring you beer with a minimum of bitching. Celeris Tujimson

You know, I didn't figure there would be a huge number of football fans in Canada... Movies, tv shows, sure, but i didn't figure the football would cross the border too well.

Or maybe its mainly for the commercials, like it is down here, since the superbowl game itself almost always sucks. Trojan Horseshoes

We have our own football league Meddik, so there must be enough fans to support it

Aw heck, I know far more NFL fans up here than I do CFL (canadian league) fans. Let's face it, NFL football is a pretty damn good thing and it isn't like there is any shortage of coverage!

I'll be the first to admit that the Superbowl itself is far more about the party than the game but weekly football is still a huge draw. There are ample fantasy leagues, weekly pools and the like, just as it is stateside.
