So there I was the other day skimming through Joiner King, a Star Wars novel set pretty far in the future, Han is in his sixties! My brother comes over and asks who is in the book, and I start rattling off names knowing full well my brother has no idea about the Star Wars universe outside the movies.
Then I let the shoe drop. I tell him they killed off Chewbacca. He goes nuts. How can they kill off Chewie? This got me thinking of other favorite characters we have seen take dirt naps.

I think I actually shed a tear or two when Sturm was laid to rest... Tas was, and still is, my hero though :b
Dumbledore... his death, in my opinion, was random, out of place, and (imo) completely unecessary. But that's beside the point entirely.

Sturm dying didnt really bug me all that much, I never really liked him :P
Flint dying sucked though, even though I knew it was coming. Tas dying sucked too, but I think the biggest surprise was when they offed Tanis. That came out of nowhere :(
I get a kick out of this everytime

If you couldn't tell Dumbledore was gonna die in book 6 by the time you picked it up, you're a little slow. Judging by the past 2 books, someone had to die in book 6 and had to be important.
And speaking of Moskau, I found a working torrent for Dschinghis Khan's Greatest Hits album, I can now listen to Moskau any time I want to :heart
They killed Aeris off!!!! :O

Come on, they had to drop a freakin' moon on Chewbacca to kill him.
A MOON.
Wesley deserved better. :(
How about Superman, or Robin?

yeah Tanis' death was a pretty big "whoa". I always though it was funny how casual the deaths of Tanin and Sturm (the brothers) were, though - I mean, those guys were main characters in the short stories with Palin, and then they're suddenly dead bodies on a beach at the beginning of DoSF.
Tas' death made me cry when I first read that book :P Flint's death was another tear jerker for me; at first I hated because he basically died like an old man instead of a hero, then I kinda realized that he'd spent his whole life trying to AVOID being a meddlesom hero, and dying in a fight was the last thing the poor guy wanted.
I always hated Sturm, but I think his meant more to me when I was a bit older. I first read that book in 5th grade and he was nothing more than a grumpy bastard to me at the time.
personally I think Steel's was a huge waste. yeah he went out like his father, but I honestly thought he was too cool of a character to just kill off in one book like that.
Clearly worst death ever was Gandalf in Fellowship of the Ring. I cried.
As far as waste of a good villain, the weak sauce way they bumped off Lord Soth bugged me.
