Does anyone know why the HELL this keeps happening? Servers just went down, again, for the.. god I don't even want to think how bad this has been recently? Is 13$ a month from over 500,000 accounts, a new expansion every 3-6 months not enough motive for them to fix there game? SFGHFDSJIHGDUSFHGSFHGJSDFJ, im going to go cry in the corner now, and wish bad things upon SoE. Bloodveign

Servers crashed 3 times today, people getting characters deleted due to zoning, severs being locked, then crashing. Have heard 3 people so far had this happen.

This is a steaming pile of crap.

This weekend was the only weekend for the last 2 weeks our crew was able to get on fully due to work, and we havent been able to get on. Now weekends over, and...

Lets just say, this is getting old so friggin fast. Wheres the sony information minister hiding.

You have no right to complain unless you have cancelled. Otherwise you are still giving them money and they don't care.

I think you have it backwords. It should be "You have no right to complain if you have cancelled, you are not giving them your money so they do not care." Bloodveign

No, I don't have it backwards... Sony doesn't care. They will never care. The only thing they care about is money, so if you send them a message (aka cancelling) then theoretically they should care. But so many people are addicted to the game, they don't cancel (or they reup when the account cannot be logged on anymore).

So basically you're saying people have no right to complain when they aren't receiving an acceptable level of service that they are paying for? Hunter Meecham

I think she's saying we're @#%$ either way, so we have no right to complain.

I would be forced to agree with her.

Well I suppose you're right in a way. The complaining may not do any good as far as getting them to invest in better hardware, but sometimes people just need to vent.

Personally it doesn't really affect me any more since I quit a couple of months ago, but I remember how annoying it was when stuff like this happened. Trying to raid PoFire when anything over about 80 ppl there caused unplayable zone lag - grar!

This is not to say I do not sympathize with you. I do, and I know what you are going for. I am approaching my 1 year quitting eq anneversary =p I played for 2-3 years.

Quote:So basically you're saying people have no right to complain when they aren't receiving an acceptable level of service that they are paying for?

No. I am not saying that. You can complain allllll you want, but Sony doesn't give a damn. They just do not care unless something hits their pocketbook. So far nothing has yet. Even in my case, all my accounts are in someone else's hands now. Because of that, Sony didn't see a financial hit.

So long story short, Sony won't care unless people quit and stop ebaying their toons.

EDIT: Clarification: The reason current subscribers have no right to complain is based on the assumption that Sony doesn't care about anything but money. You know they don't care about what the customers think, and you hate xyz about the game, so cancel. Then bitch about it on all the boards you want, because at least then, you aren't being a hypocrite. Edited by: Kinare at: 12/22/03 3:37 pm

What makes you think Sony doesn't care? These aren't unskilled labor just in search of the next paycheck, they wouldn't be working there if they didn't care. They may not be very good at it (debatable, I find the EQ Live release schedule truly terrifying, we ship roughly once a year and that's plenty), but they certainly care, and they will continue care regardless of how many customers they have.

Kinare, true, one person complaining won't even phase SOE but if EVERYONE complains, yes, SOE will hear and answer.

Where do you think the ideas for most of the fixes and nerfs came from over the past 5 years? You think those SOE developers came up with them all by themselves?

Honestly, in any realistic job, folks don't really pay attention to the problems unless its presented to them. I'm willing to bet money that more than a few SOE representatives didn't even know the servers crashed until well after they actually did.

EQ is the largest online MMORPG to date. As the first poster stated, 500,000+ accounts and more added daily. Yes, there will ALWAYS be issues with servers; bandwidth is a wickedly annoying thing sometimes. Then of course you have to consider the "natural" elements involved. Big-ass thunderstorm in so-and-so place knocks out the power grid for that area....servers get switched to UPS backup, but that itself only lasts for a couple hours before even that has to come down.

All these outages happen a LOT less than they used to. I'd go so far as to say that they will happen less in the future than they do now as well. You should have seen Fennin Ro three years ago....

Sony doesn't care in my experience. I haven't played for almost a year, so maybe that has changed. But I seriously doubt it. With as much money as they make on a daily basis, they can afford not to because they know that the game is addictive and people will keep playing, even though they hate multiple things about the game. I know I did.

Last time I knew, they only caved in on anything when Furor or some other self-important ass complains about something and threatens to bring his hoarde of groupies with him to some other game.

They had a memory leak that was causing the servers to bug out after 10-12 hours.

I think you are looking at the world through slime covered glasses, and attributing to malice what is simply Murphy's Law.

Why would anyone at all be working this close to Christmas, much less posting a four day turnaround on a memleak, if they were just in it for the paycheck?
