I know it's early :)
But does anybody know if the planned PvP server (they did say atleast one)
at launch will be RvR-ish or FFA?
I mean will I as a Kojan "resident" be able to group up with people playing races from Thestra for instance?

Sort of hoping it will be region vs region. And that someone will announce anything. Then I can get my guild/friends to start thinking about what race/class they want to play.

I know it's early. Just thought I'd ask since I coulnd't find any info about it. Me and some friends where discussing it on TS and I thought I'd ask.

No official word on that, I don't think they even know yet quite frankly.

I am hoping for Realm vs realm pvp as well. But i noticed something on one of the forums of VG SOH, Kojan has like no cleric and paladins, and Thestra has no Psi,monks, INQ, and Dis. Qalia is able to play every class

For Pvp and Pve on a pvp server thats not good imo. In massive battles Kojan and Thestra will not have classes present and in PVE when that Realm wants to Raid they wont have those classes present either. So either RvR will suck unless your on Qalia, Or they will change it for a RvR server, or they wont have RvR

Here is where i got my information, how accurate it is i do not know

I agree with you Assail, to some extent.
If the cleric was THAT viable for a group then they have to make all classes available to all regions. In order to have a balanced "Region vs Region(s)" setting.

But from what I read a cleric isn't a "better" healer than any other healing class. Clerics are more of a hybrid fighter/healer than a 100% healer.
http://wiki.silkyvenom.com/index.php/Cleric

Probably depends on what kind of ruleset they go with for every server.

I hope that when they open up more PvP servers with different rules, that one could transfer their char from the existing PvP server to another of the ones with a ruleset that feels right for you.

Starting over would feel horrible. Might just as well wait for the other servers to pop up after a few months. Other than to spend time and money on something you are going to "reset" after a few months anyway.

I want a region vs region server myself. Getting ganked by someone from your own hometown on a FFA server sorta sucks. Rather get ganked by someone that has the "right" to gank you :D Or have the guards throw their ass in jail for a week :D lol

Realm vs Realm setting excites me. Even though i dont have any real knowledge on how the world is set up i would think that in a RvR you would see the most pvp on the out skirts of the Realms since it would be easy to get to. Like the shores of Normandy and more inland would be safer for people to exp since it will be more difficult to get around all the guards, mobs, and other Players. Granted all the cities might be on the edge of each realm and all the nice areas will be in the middle, those towns still provide a buffer of people for the Other realms trying to into your realm. This is all what i imagine or hope, not basing this off any information i read. I also agree i dont like having to worry about my own people killing me when i start my Dark elf Qalia rog, thats just my preference though. I think in a Realm vs realm, or race vs race or evil vs good. The game creates a bond between your realm, race or religion.

It would be nice to get to hear Brad or someone else from Sigils thoughts and ideas for the different rule sets.
Not asking for words set in stone. Just would be very nice to know what kind of different rules there is a possibility for. And what we MIGHT see eventually. :)

The world has not been set up with pvp in mind, in fact for a long time they didnt intend to have a pvp server on release so trying to bend the world to RvR when the Lore doesnt really back it up might make for problems with pvp class balance.
I hope a racial setting may be possible that way there can be different factions at war with each other on each continent rather than continent vs continent. (or RvR to give it a generic name)

To hell with PVP. Unless the game was designed with PVP in mind (it wasn't) there will never be true pvp 'balance. Which means lots of whiny-ass pvp'ers sucking resources from fixing other things, like snakes kicking.

Summary: Keep your damned PVP outta my PVE game.

I believe it was said somewhere, that the developers have the ability to tune different skills and classes on different rule sets. So they can adjust PvP on it's own server without changing things on 'your PVE game.'

I'll see if I can find it. No promises :smoke

Never once did I say that PVP would effect PvE other than a resource drain. Please read carefully before challenging a point I didn't even make.

Even if they can swap rulesets on a server easily, it still doesn't do jack about balance or other PVP issues without extensive testing/tuning/having 1,000+ people playing, all giving feedback, which people have to sort thru, propose changes, test changes, implement changes, ect...

...and what part of that solves the problem of taking resources from PvE to tune PvP? None. My argument stands.

This is my PVP game because they said they will have PvP servers and i will be playing on a PvP server. This game will be a PVE game because people will be playing on a Pve server. I will be paying the same amount as anyone else. If they never stated that they will have pvp for sure then thats that but they did. Many people are going to be playing this game for many reasons, and a good amount of those people will be because of pvp. I am probably biased in saying what i did because i want pvp but i cant help it.

Sorry Len, you're out ranked. ;)

I've been pushing them for PvP since before the game's name had been officially released. Jeff Butler likes PvP. They haven't forgotten it, but they don't have their game plan worked out yet for it.

I cant wait for pvp myself in Vanguard, I know they will do it well! Oh btw first post on the forums, very impressed with The Safehouse, I followed it a bit in my Rogue travels with Everquest, and am very pleased with its extensive coverage of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes!!!

I'm sorry, but I know they *won't* do it well. The game was initially a non-PVP game, just like Everquest. PVP was added to it as an afterthought, just like Everquest. The game is being made by the same team that made Everquest. PVP will be as good in it as it is in Everquest, which is to say it'll be rather poorly balanced.

If I thought PVP would be even remotely fun, as it can be in games designed for it from the start, then I'd do it (as I have in other games - and I did somewhat in EQ). Nope, Vanguard will be a PVE game for me.

Im afraid I disagree with you San, I have much experiance with Orig Everquest PVP! I played on Rallos Zek for 5 years, although it started out rough, it was still fair and fun. It was not as unbalenced as most games if you knew how to play your class. Im excited to see what Vanguard will offer, I know they will do just as good as a job, but most likely better. I cant even wait for the days for Everquest PVP to be back with the content and graphics like Vanguard its unimaginable to me, I know it will own!

in eq during the orignal and kunark it was pretty awesome pvp. there was some unbalance amoung the classes but nothing to severe compared to what its at now. I played and an ench at higher lvls and my rog at lower lvls, was lvling him up. Neither of them at that time were a one man wrecking crews but they defently were not getting owned by one person.. i dont remember when eq went to sony. but even in Velious it was pretty good pvp. I remember fighting in Tov, and having ogre circles around the zone in and battles of 50 vs 50 in the zone. In my opinion th pvp rocked from start to about velious and in luclin was when it started getting lame with the gear and aas. Its when a certain class or classes become so overpowered and people start rerolling to the class is when it gets messed up imo. I just hope there isnt a class that is so overpowering that owns 90% of the people just because of the class they are.

I too hope that there will be continent based teams. It seems that all the continents can access each role at least, but the class choices are unlikely to be set at the moment anyway, expect changes before release.

Ensuring that each continent, or race team, could access each class would be a sensible game feature if continent or racial PVP was planned. As a long time player on Vallon Zek both of these rulesets intrigue me, especially when you think how the world would evolve. In continent teams everyone would be friendly until travel was established and easy, raiding parties seem fun. In racial teams pk would be instaneous on entering common zones.

Both seem fun, I am being realistic and expecting no class balance to be apparent as this game is coded for PVE. Just got to work out what I want to play now...

Yes I realize that this thread has been dead for almost a month, but being that I can't play Vanguard yet, I'm posting anyway.

While we can't hope for completely balanced pvp, there is no way Sigil will not implement it. What can almost certainly be expected is good clean fun, killing each other...yay. EQ wasn't balanced for pvp and had major movement glitches for years, probably still, but the game was always fun because of the pvp. I've been crossing my fingers for a pvp server at release, but I wouldn't bet on it.

And if they decided to keep pvp out of "your" pve game, I wouldn't play. There's a great game out created just for all you bluebies, it's called DDO and you have no chance of having any griefers ruining your party and no chance of having any fun. The small amount of realism, fear of death, and skill vs. skill combat is the only thing that keeps us hardcore players playing. So if this ends up being Evercamp 3, count me out. Though I do love killing dragons and gods, and getting oversized loots, the chance that someone is going to jack you on the way to the bank or while you're afk is the only aspect that'll keep me playing past newbie levels.

I'd really like to see RvR or some variation thereof, FFA is great but will probably create more whining than Sigil is willing to handle.
