Bohemian Rhapsody was a song by a guy who died of AIDs, and was pretty much about that, if I remember right. Which actually, if you listen to the vocal nutjob Christians, would have been eerier if the song preceding it was "Highway to Hell."
I'll be going there with a one way ticket, I imagine.

I don't think that AIDS had become prevalent in the Western world at the time Bohemian Rhapsody was recorded in 1975. Thus, I don't think that Mercury was writing about dying of AIDS at that time, however later works in the late 80's/early 90's definitely were.
Stairway to Heaven was recorded even earlier, 1970, so was even less likely about that subject.
Bohemian Rhapsody was about Mercury's health issues. I don't know if he knew it was AIDs necessarily when he wrote it but thats what it was about.
Not sure about Stairway to Heaven though.

And here I was thinking he wrote it to:
A) Increase his income (each member of the band got a share, plus the writer of a song that got on an album got an extra share. More songs, more shares. Brian May was quite the winner with this.)
B) Get a chance to experiment with Quadraphonic sound. Their other bif foray into this was off the same album 'The Prophets Song'
C) Have a chance to put his operatic training into use
My understanding is he recorded most of it solo, the kinda sprang it on the rest of the band during a recording session. They weren't too keen on the idea, but he convinced them to give it a try.
The rest is history.
All of that written, I went to wikipedia for reference. Nothing written there backs up anything I wrote. Sucky, but there it is.

Having two of the best songs ever made play back to back out of 16000+ tracks is fairly odd.

I still don't believe that "Bohemian Rhapsody" was about Freddie's health. On the contrary, as far as I know, he was quite healthy back in 1975. The remaining members of Queen might know what Freddie intended the song to be about, but they're not spilling it, leading to a lot of speculation as to what the real 'meaning' is.
On the other hand, "Show Must Go On", written by Brian May, and recorded as the last track on the last album released while Mercury was alive, was most definitely Freddie's swan song.

What was really weird is when I opened this thread was right when the Bohemian Rhapsody part came on in Wayne's World.
I once had this one:
