This is not only to announce the retirement of Ironthighs, my L23 Dwarf rogue, but from Everquest as well.

Before I go on, I have to thank the players willing and able to ease me along the path I was on, it really helped, and they will be compensated from my war chest.

I played a good deal, not as much as others, nor as little as others, total of about three weeks solid time in 6 months. I have several opinions, mainly about the Rogue class. Additionally, I'll comment on what I've seen suggested for improvements etc as I can recall them. Maybe Verant will improve the Rogue, maybe not, I no longer care.

1. Rogues have a high potential in the game. I bought into the Verant BS about Rogues, period. However, nothing has been done to/or that does create a niche that a Rogue can fill, like a cleric, bard, or (tank) can. You dont see parties saying " Seeking a rogue for ... "

2. Backstab is too weak. Instead of X3 damage, I should be laying down X6-7 damage. In a trade off, I would have accepted landing less backstabs ( once every 20 seconds instead of 7 )

3. Backstab is also too weak since I can only do a minimum of 23 pts damage, with modifiers. If I can sneak in behind 80% of the creatures and initiate an attack BEFORE it aggro's against me ( if fighting with a party ) I should be able to delivery a HUGE amount of damage. Either in reality or fantasy worlds, if I can land a backstab, it should realllly hurt.

4. Instill doubt... In who ? Me or my target ?

5. Disarm traps. Not enough of them out there for anyone to care.

6. Pick locks. See #5

7. Safe fall. So ?

8. Rogues should be able to disguise themselves as any other creature/class.... AND character ( with success % roll ). Within some reason, though. Hehe, dwarves cant disguise themselves as Sand Giant's ;-> However, I should be able to pass myself off as a Orc, another nearby Dwarf or my Necromancer buddy ( appearance that is )

9. Poisons. Too little too late Verant.

10. Stop working on ALL caster classes for a month or two. Try playing a rogue, Brad.

11. Prowl ( Sneak + Hide ) should be an available one key combo

12. Prowl should hide me from creatures that are aggro'd against me, unless I go visible.

13. Game balance, schmalance. Verant: create reasons for Rogues to exist. There are none today, unless you count "Griffene Fodder" as a reason.

14. Insufficient transport options.

15. Backstab should be possible from a thrown weapon.

16. Players should have a hotkey to BROADCAST - > VSA ( Verant Sucks Ass )

Ok, enough of the rant. I'm now going to stop spending any further energy on EQ.

For those of you Rogues sticking with it, um, get another class. For those of you considering Rogues, choose a caster first, then a tank-class before you remotley consider a rogue.

For Verant, I'm voting with my wallet. My cash is going elsewhere.

I have a level 50 Halfling Rogue...Ive sold some of his Items Such as his FBSS and now have a kick ass Enchanter Twink whiuch i love very much...I made the mistake of making a rogue as my Primary Character but my Enchanter is already level 33 I will be 50 before The New Year. So i plan to recamp anything i sold from my rogue with my Enchanter since heh he can do it byhimself or with a 2nd person, none of this i need a full group crap...Although i made my Enchanter to Group im happy to have a character That can Group and Solo and that is wanted by people. I mean i get tells to enchant Clarity Group cuz of crowd control and everythign not once did i get tells as my rogue to join a group even now i have more friends as my enchanter then My Rogue sad to say, and most of my friends have forgotten about me now because i play my encahnter so much Ah Well At least i know that when and if verant makes rogues a neccessary or usable class thast requested in a group ill haev a 50 waiting on my character select Screen.

I know rogues suck as they are now. My druid can kite harriers at lvl 22 while my rogue still has a slim chance of killing them at lvl 32 while by this time warriors are soloing avos. I know rogues are a grouping class, I know this is a grouping game. Then why are rogues the only class that NEEDS to group and can never find one. I don't care really, monks are supposedly getting haste now. They whine for a month about actually dying and they get haste. We cry out for help for 6 months and we get 3 save vs poison and a crit hit with throwing weapons??? I'm lvl 34 now and plan to reach 35 and then play my druid or monk or enchanter or cleric or ANYTHING. I only stuck around in hope that there would be a change because I definitely don't want to reach 50 as I am now. That would be an insult to the rogue class and to my character. I don't know if I can even stay on a game that doesn't care about half it's potential population (the melee) as long as they make enough money off of it. Ever do /who all 50? 85% of 50s are casters, and there's good reason for it.

I am sorry to disagree with you but I must. I have played 5 classes. Wizard, Cleric, Paladin, Druid, and Rogue. And of all of those I enjoy my rogue the most. I have never leveled half as fast as I do with this character. The skills I've aquired are very nice. Apply Poison can do up to 250hp with the poisons you can make yourself. Safe fall is great when you don't feel like waiting for the lifts in kelethin. I just jump off the platforms for now damage. Pick locks, well, no more waiting for mobs to get a key in befallen or other dungeons. Backstab, well, its like a critical hit if you ask me. Instill doubt is used to fear creatures in a tough situation, and damn it it saved my ass multiple times. And Class balance. I'm sorry but Rogues are one of the best all around fighters when properly equiped. I have a Dragoon Dirk, a Stilleto, and a Ashwood bow and I'm sorry but I've been PKed 2 times total. Why? cuz I killed the rest. Most when I was at less then full health. BTW I play on Rallos Zek(PvP server) and its not easy to survive there, but I've done exceptionally well with my rogue. And I feel he of all my characters is indeed the most fun to Roleplay with. So I can see your point on some ideas(Disguises, throwing for Backstab, etc) but I think that Rogues are one of the finest classes in the game. And also, I'd like to note that when EQ Beta opened up, 2 out of the 3 people who were first to reach lvl 50 were a pair of Rogues who hunted together. the other was a druid. Now I ask, how deadly do you think Rogues can be based on what I have said? heh.

A couple clarifications:

No poison is going to do 250 pts of damage until you are 45-50th level or so.

Picking doors in Befallen is convenient as you mention, but there are no "other dungeons" as you state where it is useful.

ID is unpredictable and not a reliable skill to count on.

I am glad you enjoy your rogue and would not knock you for it, but those statements were a bit misleading and should be cleared up.
