View Full Version : Farewell!
EZ_Akak

Brother and sister rogues,
It is with a heavy heart that I bid you all farewell. I've decided to quit Everquest as it has started to take up WAY too much of my time and I find myself playing more and more and ignoring the important things in life (Like my kids, wife, fitness, etc. :)). I tried cutting back but, for me, it's just not possible. This damn game, and rogues in particular, gets to be more and more fun as time goes by. I almost had it licked. I had reduced my play time down to about 4 days per week when I made the mistake of attending a full scale, 6-group raid on Phinigel Atropos (sp?) in Kedge Keep. That was my first large raid and was so much fun (even though it failed and 36 of us died) that I immediately started playing 7 days a week again in an effort to gain enough levels to accompany my guild on Dragon raids.
Now, here's the tough part. Agree with it or not, I posted Akak on Ebay today. I invested over 40 days playing him and I want to get a little something back from it to spend on my family as a sort of "apology" for neglecting them. Please don't turn this into an "Ebay, good or bad" rant. I need some finality to quitting EQ and selling it pretty final.
Fortunately for Modus, Nanuudar, Vestas, Wysper, Mauvaise, and the other young Povar rogues, the chances that Akak will sell are slim -to- none. A level 37 rogue isn't on many people's "must have list" but maybe some will buy him to farm out the equipment. I will probably post here in about a week to have all rogues meet me in Freeport for the Great Equipment Giveaway before I delete Akak and uninstall EQ. Bedrenken, you get nothing, as you're already over-equipped :)
If you want to see the auction, go here.
If it does sell, I will post here immediately so that all of the Povar rogues know when Akak isn't me any more. Zato, please strip me of my moderator status and Kezz, you need to solicite for another Povar Ring Warden.
This is a pretty happy day for me (and even more for my wife!) as addiction to anything is never a good thing. Moderation, my friends, is the key.
It's just a game, isn't it?

Akak, I know you only by reputation but that alone speaks strongly. You have always been an excelent, witty writer with strong opinions. I can only hope that others will follow your example and become the kind of person that you are. I fear a trend ... I fear that all of our great rogues will be quitting the game. I am sincerely sorry to see you go, and I can only pray to the good gods that others will not follow in your footsteps.

This is a sad day indeed. I remember when I was a new rogue and needed advice, I typed /who all rogue 25 50. And I saw Akak. Asked him a question, he answered. I'm sure I asked him many questions through the ages, and so many more were answered here.

Akak,
Though you most likely don't remember me, I could never forget you. As a young Lvl 15 rogue I was in need of advice and I also did a "/who all rogue 25 50" and YOU were the one I selected. This was MONTHS ago and you answered every one of my questions and more. You also sold me my first magical weapon (a Pugius) at a VERY low price. I had retired Gailyn for a very long time (couldn't stand being a woman trapped in a Male Elf's body =/) but I NEVER took you off of my friends list! Through all the multitudes of different characters that I have played since retirement, I have always silently watched you're progress and silently cheered you on. Someone stated it well in an earlier post:
You are and will always be a LEGEND on Povar!

Oh yeah Akak, I just re-read your statement.
I am NOT over-equipped :) I've earned all my rogues equipment in some way or another myself, with no twinking at all (ok, my friend who got me started playing gave me a crush tunic and FS rapier)
Seriously though.. I'm so heartbroken to see you go. I stated before and I will again that this is a great loss to the Povar safehouse community.
PS. If you do give out any equipment Akak, I'd like the cloak... hehe. I'll donate my Lizardscale into the giveaway fund, as well as a few other treats. I won't leave all the younger rogues empty handed by any means ;)
Akak... if you do go this route... let me know. I'm sure all the Povar safehousers would like to get together and throw a going away party of sorts. I know I would. If you giveaway all your stuff, we could even have people duel for it, with different level stuff going to different level players. Would be very fun, and it would be great to somehow get all of us together at one time. And to say goodbye to our newly departed friend.
I hope you'll at least check up on all of our progress from time to time here too :)

As Vestas eyes look up they catch a glimpse of a rogues back as he heads out the door, the words "good luck, kid" whispering his way.
A glance around the room reveals a prevailing sober mood to Vestas. Poorly concealed tears on several faces, including Modus's whom appears to be caught between crying and silent rage.

Just as sex, drugs, smoking and drinking are addictions, so is our beloved Everquest. As all pleasures we enjoy, we always want more. My situation is a little different for yours, i am not married, and do not have any kids..I do have a live-in girlfriend and have learned to control my addition..In the past 9 months or so I have put on about 10 pounds, for i do not work out as much, sitting on your arse for 12 hour sessions can do that to a guy. Both a friend and I have begun to curve our appetite by integrating a "NO PLAY" day into our lives. That enables us to play EQ every other day...and there are no exceptions. You miss a play day...to bad, u must wait for the next consecutive "play day" The days you do not play, you spend with your wives, kids, girlfriend, etc..or get something done around the house for once!
Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is quitting everquest is not the solution..you will eventually find something else to fill the EQ void that once was..So i say why not stick with EQ and begin the "No play" day! I am not a phyciatrist, or do i wish to be one...this is only an opinion. Best of luck my friend in your decision.
PS> We have also increased our health and fitness, with the EQ workout..Yes sounds pretty corny, but seems to work for me..During those 5 min sessions of regaining mana and health...Do a set of push-ups, then another...then try sit-ups...I must keep a close eye, for I am on a pvp server.. But you can easily bring some weights into the room...make use of that time instead of sitting there looking at nosense from the guild/party says...for i believe 95% of it is....Or read a good book whilst you play, and hone those mental skills...
By leaving everquest, you will let the addition beat you...and you cannot let that happen, for you are a rogue (cunnining, intelligent, and mischeivous)

Oh all the money that e'er I spent,

And all the harm that e'er I've done,
alas it was to none but me.
And all I've done, for want of wit,

So I'll gently rise, and I'll softly call,
Good night, and joy be with you all.
Oh, all the comrades that e'er I had,
are sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had,
would wish me one more day to stay.
But since it falls unto my lot,

Fare Thee Well, Friend.
As is the case, in matters such as this: another will rise to take your place. The guild will continue to do it's good works for us all. A little sadder, yet, a bit stronger for all you've done for the Brotherhood. A unique presence felt across all of our parrallel worlds. Quite the legacy, and a tremendous burden on us to attempt to fill the vacuum.
Kodak refused to turn around and acknowlege Akak's muted departure. He remained hunched over the dark-stained counter, cradling his ale in front of him. As the door to the tavern thumped shut, the silence inside puncuated th finality of the moment. Patrons moved slowly away from Kodak's still form, feeling a dark anger building in him. He slowly pulled a glossy black dagger from under his cloak and set in on the bar in front of him. No one spoke and the only sound was the crackling and soft pops fromthe huge hearth that warmed the hall. He finally raised his head a bit and sloshed back what remained of his drink. Picking up the dagger, he placed it's point into the ancient wood and firmly traced it back and forth. Sliding down off the stool, the dagger disappeared from sight and Kodak stomped to the door. He hesitated, then yanked it open, stepped into the darkness beyond the threshold and vanished.
The barkeep retrieved the mug that Kodak had been drinking from and wiped his bar rag over the spot. He stopped and saw fresh scars gleaming from the surface.

Akak,
While i have only seen ya very few times in the game itself, I have heard your presence in the game as a brtoher rogue. You will be missed greatly, I feel that you were a tie that broke a lot of people down and the rogues of Povar are falling through the cracks, for all of you also following Akak's example I will miss you all as well. I walked into North Freeport last night and saw the most rogues ever in one spot and thought to myself wow, I could get used to seeing this, only to fiond out it was a going away party :-( Well for all of you rogues out there still on Povar I will be around to try to fill the Void left by our dear friends departure, Lets make em proud... Lets Raid the Kedge, Kill them Dragons, And Run Wild in the PLANES!!! Take care dear friend,

Me again. Gomar is the man, we met once, he gave me his ravenscale helm and a tour of SolB (albiet a brief one). Hey buddy, glad to see you here.
Akak, I'm still upset you are gone, but who can argue about family. I see your value has shot up in eBay and I'm glad for you. I wish you the best of luck.
Right now I'm 100 times more bummed about my character than i was after all the deaths. I just can't believe Akak & Modus are gone, now Nan is talking of going?!? My server is falling apart. Kaens

Don't sweat it Kaens. I'm not going anywhere for a while. I'll be cutting down, but not leaving. I just renewed my 3 month subscription, so I'm guaranteed there for at LEAST that long. Besides, I still haven't seen the high level zones. If I'm gonna quit, it won't be before that happens.
