Here's a site that deals with debunking a lot of questionable news photos: http://www.snappedshot.com/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BT5gDjg1coc - CNN's Anderson Cooper talks about unnecessary props and actions. Quote: "They were just making stuff up."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vPAkc5CLgc - German TV Magazine "Zapp" shows some guy staging bodies for camera shots.. over and over. (WARNING: Video shows a closeup of a dead child on a stretcher, do not watch it if you're squeamish about stuff like that)

http://powerlineblog.com/archives/015118.php - Some interesting points on the alleged "Missle Strike" on a Reuters press vehicle.

I'm confused here. Doesn't showing a picture of a machinegun-wielding Hezbollah fighter standing over the (alleged) wreckage of an Israeli plane support Israel, not Hezbollah?

Everyone knows mickey mouse is a holy figure and therefore can not be hurt.

It should be noted that the photographer responsible for that photo (discussed in another thread) has been fired. In every profession, there are individuals who act unethically. That isn't any indication of the health of the entire profession. What we would look for is for their employer to deal with them appropriately when their behavior is uncovered.

That video makes me so mad. What a bad name these people are giving for my profession! You aren't supposed to stage shots or film! You can't tell someone "hey, pretend like you're doing x" so we can get a good shot for the paper, even if it's something they normally do.

How incredibly lame.

Not in the middle east. Showing that Hezbollah has the ability to take on Israel is a selling point for them, and helps Hezbolla. Also see the faked pic of the Israelis ship they supposedly sank. (Which was actually a decommissioned UK ship I think that was used as a target in a bombing exercise.)

honestly, the argument would be moot. The issue is distortion of news by the media, and it is not done any less by the neo-con supporters than it is done by the "liberals". If you don't believe that already, it's pointless to the multitude of non neo-con websites that decry the distortions that FOX makes.

http://www.projectcensored.org/publications/2005/11.html

from the article, first line actually:

In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States.

This video was concerned with the American liberal media misleading the American people. The Hezbollah fighter was on the cover of an American news magazine--everything was in English--I don't think it was intended for Hezbollah/Lebanese consumption.

Also, when they compare the two pictures of the woman, they switched the dates. Oops.

This may be a question for Shehab, but I was under the impression that in numerous cases, groups in the middle east will take selected pieces of western media/political speech that agree with them and hold them up as an example, so as to say "See, Even the Infidels admit it" One of the reasons that Noam Chomsky (as one example) is widely read over there.
