Post your "Answers" below:
Awesome! First shot....
1. It used to be that I always played a paladin or similar character (like the DAoC Champion in Hibernia's realm). However, after picking up the rogue class in EQ1 last year, they have become my character of choice.
2. I always play alts.
3. It depends on "how" I'm playing my alt. If I'm boxing, I tend to play a complimentary character... for example, my 2 current 2-box set-ups in EQ1 are a paladin and ranger vs. my rogue and cleric/shaman. If I'm just playing the alt itself, then I tend to play something completely different from a rogue, for instance, my alt in WoW is a warlock.
Hope this is in the right spot =)
1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
My preferences of class change all the time. But generally I either prefer paladins or rogues as main characters(EQ I had a paladin, WoW I had a rogue). If a game does not have either of these classes I will try to choose one which I think is similar to one or the other. And in the extreme case that one of these similar classes does not exist I will research all the classes even more and determine the best choice for me.
2. Do you usually play an alt? And if so, what class is your alt?
I usually do play many alts, yes. My first alt is usually some sort of magic caster who specializes in damage of different types. I had a higher level necro-alt in EQ who I had a blast with. I also like the specialty classes like the monk from EQ1. The only real thing I tend to avoid when playing MMOs(or RPGs in general) is the tank classes and the pure healing class. I don't find them too much fun.
1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
My favorite MMORPG class is the Rogue, which is why I lurk here 24/7. I started a Rogue in EQ and have continued being a rogue for 7 years now. My second favorite would probably be the Warrior.
2. Do you usually play an alt? If so, what class is your alt?
I play alts from time to time whenever I grow tired of my main. I like to have a caster alt, because it's a real change of pace from being a Rogue. I also like Warrior/MT type classes. Sometimes I'll start a new character just for fun, but never level him up properly. I think it's good to know not only your own class, but classes you frequently group with as well.
1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
Tank class (Warrior).
2. Do you usually play an alt? And if so, what class is your alt?
No.

Helloes.
1. I play non DPS classes mostly. Paladin in WoW, paladin in EQ1 and Guardian in EQ2. Planning on being Necro in Vanguard though.
2. Well.. no.. I dont like alts cause it distracts me from focusing on my main to develop it
3. And if i have an alt its usually a mage.
< Non contest qualifying comment >
Great, entries already :)
I thought I'd contribute just for the sake of discussion.
Rogue is my preferred class /curtsey. I tend to have alts but not when I'm first getting into a game and I usually only play them if I become "attached" to them somehow, as in I like their character, more than their abilities. I like hybrid classes like EQ1 Druids or Shamans in pretty much any MMORPG.
Like Szeric, I also stay away from pure healer. I used to say I stayed away from pure tanks too but I tried one and kinda liked it so I won't say that anymore either.
1. I love to play DPS classes. I played a Rogue on EQ and eventually ended up playing a Rogue on WoW also.
2. I don't really like playing an alt too much. I like to focus on one character.

1. I've played many different classes in my stints in MMO's, but I tend to always head back to the rogue type character. This includes the bard and hunter types. I like being the "jack of all trades" role in a group, or even when soloing.
2. Often I play far too many alts, and it distracts me from focusing on one.
3 If I'm playing a melee main I like to change things up on my alt and make it a caster or ranged type.
Good luck, all!
1) I play all classes, typically a rogue or arcane caster of some form becomes my main
2&3) I end up with an alt of almost all classes as I like to try them all

1. I usually gravitate towards casters. Typically a mage-like DPS caster, though sometimes the other casters will appeal to me as well. For Vanguard, I'm looking seriously at the blood mage. I usually avoid the healer types, but a healer that sucks the life out of others to fuel his healing potential? That sounds like a lot of fun. I used to play Magic: The Gathering, and in that game, I loved decks with lots of black cards in them (but more the drain life aspect rather than the raise dead aspect). The blood mage looks like it is going to have that kind of feel. :evil That said, I'm looking forward to the crafting game just as much as I am lookin forward to the adventure game, and right now, I'm leaning towards Artificer because I want to build my own boats and buildings.
2. Yes. Definitely. Especially early in the game, I will make two or three characters with different concepts behind them and give them all a dry run before I really settle in and pick one as my true main.
3. What class is my alt? Anything but a pure tank actually. I always try out the Rogues but in most games the rogue is a melee DPS class. That tends to drive me away from them. In VG, the Bard and Necomancer both look like a lot of fun.

1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I originally played a warrior on EQ I and I loved it. Every game after that I tried out mostly Rangers and a few Rogues. I plan on going back to the Warrior Class in Vanguard.
2. Do you usually play an alt? And if so, what class is your alt?
No. I focus on one character because I believe it adds to the immersion. If I ever get to lvl 60, I might make a Druid, just because I have always wanted to try one.

Healer class
# Do you usually play an alt?
Yes, after a while
# If so, what class is your alt?
A class that is solo capable to do things the healer can't.

1. I tend to play Bard classes
2. I always have at least 1 alt
3 My alts tend to follow after experiencing the game for a bit, just to get the feel as well as discuss other classes with companions i may run across which help me decide on this matter.
1. I usually some kind of caster, in EQ i had a druid and in wow i had a warlock
2.Yes
3.My alts are usual the exact opposite of my main so that i can experience the other half of the sectrum.
What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
I prefer to play Druids for the most part, I really love their versatility. If you play a druid you really have to learn how to play your class.
Do you usually play an alt?
Unfortunately, I usually do play an alt. Its hard for me not to make a bunch of alts just to try out all the classes and starting zones.
If so, what class is your alt?
My alt is usually some kind of DPS class. In World of Warcraft I was the standard undead Rogue.

1.) What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
NecroMancer or mage
2.) Do you usually play an alt?
Yes multiple alts and usually lvl them all to max
3.) If so, what class is your alt?
usually make some form of healer as my first alt
What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
Rogue is my perfered class, depending on the game. Wizard would be my strong 2nd choice.
Do you usually play an alt?
Yes.
If so, what class is your alt?
Something that can be twinked for low level PVP.

1. I would have to say Druids and any other caster(I have trouble making up my mind =)!
2. I always play alts
3. Most of the time my alt is the opposite of what my main is.(The point of this is so that when i need a break from a caster type i can go play dps, healer, etc.)
1. I prefer a high DPS Melee class, the majority of the time this is the rogue. From a roleplaying standpoint I like the vega-bond, scamp with wit. This also falls into the rogue area. This is my favorite class to play, and always my initial class when playing an MMO.
2. Yes, I almost always play an alt. Not usually until I get to the extremely high levels with my main character, I will start it just before the end to "prolong the magic" of a sort and to not reach the higher content and then burn out.
3. My alt always will be the most pure based healing class, be it a priest or cleric type character or whatever is the staple opposite of the DPS class. Gives the game a different view for me and helps me to be a better player. Not to mention helps a great deal to stave off getting bored or feeling "burnt out".

1.) What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I usually play the filler class in my social group. That always seems to turn out to be a DPS class. In Everquest I was a rogue, in wow I was a hunter, in DnDO I play a fighter rogue. Our little group has their set roles. My buddy's wife likes to look after us and ends up playing a cleric in any game, no matter what class she initially tries. It's just in her nature. Another one of my friends always plays the tank role, as he has a need to protect us. He's the one that will stay behind as everyone else is running for the zone line to give us time to escape. The others in our group follow suit in our own way. I in turn serve the role to augment the group, to make our little band complete. Usually, to my unending joy, that makes me the DPS class.
2.) Do you usually play an alt? And if so, what class is your alt?
Absolutely. My highest level alt always turns out to be a tanking class usually a paladin. (Krunnk the drunken pally in EQ, Bronzebeard in WoW, and Arizen the drow paladin in DnDO). My other alts end up evil spellcasters (Nerual the necro in EQ, Lacdannan the dark wizard in Lineage 2, Nerual the warlock in WoW, and Faustian the sorcerer in DnDO). Until this post I never realized how my class selection followed such a pattern. Even now have plans for a Vulmane Rogue main when Vanguard releases and a goblin necro alt. The only difference seems to be I plan on a half giant dread knight alt instead of my typical pally.

First, I'd like to say thank you very much Sigil and The Safehouse for doing this for everyone. Now onto the questions...
1. I prefer to play as an offensive fighter or defensive fighter. My usual is Monk, Paladin, Warrior, or Dread Knight (if I'm to pertain to the classes of this game). I will probably start off Warrior or Monk, but will definitely try all four of those picks.
2. I always have an alt ready for when I either don't feeling like playing my main, or want to raid/group and nobody is on (though it seems I can solo in this game), or... I just love my alt class...
3. I usually play main fighter type class so I like to get a feeling for the other side, a caster. I usually play a healing caster for an alt to understand their role and how they can do things easier.
It will help me in the long run on my main as I can learn the potentials of each healer and understand how far I can actually push myself on my fighter. I also will know what buttons not to push in terms of getting underneath my healer's skin. I'd rather know his pressure and not get him mad.
Playing a healer just really gives you more appreciation for those that take the time to play what most every party needs. It also adds another healer that can party in case people in your guild that are the level of your alt need a healer, or, if you can, you could PL lower level alts of other high level friends if they want it, or PL other people if they ask nicely, or just go around mounted and swoop down to save a lowbie's life!
That's another lovely thing that healers have. They can, in most every game, go around buffing people and healing them, lowering downtime for them and just making friends. Man! This is getting me so pumped for this game as until now, I hadn't thought about playing an alt healer (though I knew I would, I hadn't thought of all I would be doing).
Sorry for the lengthy post.
1.) Rogue's, mostly. Somtimes hunters/rangers.
2.) Yes.
3.) Probably a caster of some sort, a damage caster..none of that curing stuff.:rofl
4.) Thanks for the chance to be in the beta. :D

What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
Generally, I prefer to play a healer type of class. As a healer in real life, this is my ultimate comfort zone. I also enjoy the feeling of being really needed in almost every situation and the popularity that inevitably comes.
Do you usually play an alt?
Yes. Always. I call it "having a bad case of altitis." I have more then one reason however for doing this. I enjoy it being the first and formost reason but also to be a better group/guild/class whatever leader. The more you know about the multitude of abilities of other classes, the better you can lead and organize and event. You know what to expect and what to ask for, making everything much more smooth.
If so, what class is your alt?
I like the classes with pets or magical damage skills. I love animals and have a natural affinity with them in life. Like my beloved healing classes, animal friendly classes fit right in with my enjoyments. And doing magical skills? Lets face it, thats one of the earliest dreams children have. I just happen to be one of the few that did not outgrow that desire.
I prefer to play a melee type class. It can be anything from a traditional warrior to a rogue. I usually end up playing the healer though. =) In VG I will be playing a healer and probably the cleric class.
I usually do play alts. Especially in the past. In my last mmo I played on char straight through to 60 on one server and then another to 60 on a different server so maybe I am getting better. In VG I plan one char. There is too much to do for me to have alts. Harvesting/Crafting/Diplomacy and oh yes leveling adventuring etc...
Alts can be anything.

Greetings all.
1. Last 2 MMORGS that I played I was Druid
2. Yes alts are enjoyable, gives me an idea of what another class is like, and sometimes a surprise, finding a new class to play that I never expected to play.
3. Ranger or Paladin in my previous online lives.

1) I have played many different classes through-out my mmo times. I am a huge fan of the DPS classes but i also like to some times be a healer. My last class that i played was a Hunter in WoW. Before that i played a Friar in DAOC. Also before that i liked to play a Monk in EQ.
2) I do play alts.
3) The main alt that i played was a Warlock in WoW. Before that i had a Scout in DAOC. Thats what really drove me to start a hunter in WoW. I loved playing my Scout. I really like to almost try every different class in the game. Then i usually find one that i like the most and stick with it to be my main alt.
Happy Holidays Everyone!
1. When i play an Mmorpg i am useally the person who can dish out as much damage as possible like a huge juggernaut who doesn't care that his leg is being eaten by rabid wolves and just goes into a huge frenzy of killing wit an axe or something like that i mean i think anyone would want to do that in rl some day.
2. Yeah i will useally play a(n) alts.
3. I make about every class other than my main and end up leveling them to a ridiculous low level before making another character who is the exact same class with like spiked hair instead of a bald dude on a different server. But i have no official "alt".

What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
i've played just about every class in every MMO that's been released, but i always seem to gravitate to rogues and melee DPS classes. i played a monk in eq1, tkm in swg (pre-combat "fix"), and rogues (2 60s on 2 servers) and a feral druid on WoW. even back in the MUDs and p&p D&D days, i played rogues. i suppose their play style just fits my personally.
Do you usually play an alt?
always.

i enjoying playing all classes, but DPS and finesse is where's it's at.

1. In an MMO I will always play a caster, Especially Mages
2.I do play an alt yes, but ONLY If I have my main character at maximum level first. I like to breath life into my main character, and develoo a personality for him/her before putting energy into making another
3 The alt that I choose to play is a Rogue, sometimes it's just nice to sneak around unseen, attack, kill, wipe your blade and then slip back in the shadows again..
So...many...rogues... heh. I saw a couple of healers in there, though so that was encouraging. Anyway, here goes:
1) I have always hated spellcasting, but after trying out all the classes in WoW, I found out that I love the warlock class or anything like it. Nobody wants to be the evil guy in the group it seems, and I like to be different. The fact that warlocks are overpowered in that game helps too...
2) Yes I play alts.
3) Usually when I play an alt, it is to be a class that:
a) I've never played before
b) The guild needs, or makes it easier to play with friends
c) Completely removes me from whatever class I had been playing the most
in recent game time.

1) What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
Primarily, I play some sort of fighting healer. I drift toward cleric types, though I'm thinking of disciple this time around.
2)Do you usually play an alt?
Normally I have many alts.
3)If so, what class is your alt?
Generally, the first alt I create is whatever the 'run out with something big and smack it until it dies' class is. Warrior, blaster. Then I play with control for a while. I try to go through all of them, playing until the mid levels before getting bored and moving on.

1) What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I currently have a Priest in WoW and Enchanter in EQ2. I've always liked the challenging classes that alot of people have difficulty playing.
2)Do you usually play an alt?
Yes, but usually only 1 main one.
3)If so, what class is your alt?
Playing a priest or enchanter has its inherant issues where they both cant solo. My alt tends to be a soloer class where I can 'kill' some time and hopefully alot of mobs. (WoW- mage and EQ2- monk)

1.) The class that I prefer... Hrm, I cannot say this because this is usually the thing that I have the hardest time with choosing because I like all aspects of the game. In wow I decided to make a paladin becuase up to that point, I never rolled one before and that was the first character that I took up to 60. After a short break I rerolled to my friend's server as a rogue because his guild needed rogues and I was tired of having poor damage with my pally, so I was determined to be the person on top of the damage charts. In VG, I plan on rolling a blood mage, even though many other classes I am drawn to (Pally, Dreadknight, Bard, Rogue, and Druid.) and I am sticking with my guns on this one and I can't wait. If I get into beta I think I am going to roll a rogue and see how that is, because they look fun.
2.) Alts... heh. I don't have as bad of altitis as some people do, but when I feel like not playing on my main, I will roll another alt or play one that I feel like playing.
3.) Genrally, for alts, I try to play classes that other people deem as a weak class(Moonkin anybody?) and I try to min/max my way with that class to be as effective as possible to prove everybody wrong.

2)Yes
3)Warriors/Shadowknights
What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I usually play a druid. Druids are usually jacks of all trades and I enjoy being able to do a variety of things with the class I play. I also like how druids are usually a support class, in which i can always come to the aid of my real life friends who play MMO's with me.
Do you usually play an alt?
I love playing alts. I n previous games I have been an alt whore. Playing alts enables me to get a glance in what everyone else is playing and how there class works.

(1 Well I tend to gravitate towards healing classes (priest love!)
(2 I usually start to work on an alt after i have leveled my main
(3 to the other end of the spectrum! I usually have tank alts :P
# 1What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
In a MMORPG i tend to play healing classes. While healing classes arent the best soloers, thats ok with me, i play mmorpgs for the social aspect of the games and playing a healer allows to me be as social as i like and it makes find groups very easy. Also playing a healer and playing a really good healers makes you stand out that much more because your class is usally underplayed
#2 Do you usually play an alt? i play many alts mostly because i level alot faster then my real life friends and alts allow me to keep a character around their level
# 3If so, what class is your alt? usally a tank or mostly a crafter though it depends really on what kind of mood im in
1. I typically play a mage of some sort. In EQ2 I have a necro that I really like, but for Vanguard I am planning on playing a Bloodmage. I have messed around with healers in EQ2 and know that they are some of the least played classes. I figured playing a healer would be very benifical not only to me being able to get groups but to others.
2. I have several alts in EQ2. I have the station pass that lets me have up to 10 chars. I have them all filled out but only really play 3 of them as alts.
3. In EQ2 my alts are a Zerker, an Assassin, and a Warden. In Vanguard my alts will be a Druid, Bard, and maybe a Shaman. I am not entirely sure at this point but the Druid and Bard are for sure.

1. Rogue of course!
2. Yep
3. Usually a crafter type or a good solo class. Once my EQ Rogue was maxed out farming became pretty easy in the old world with the Rogue-Handshake (Sol A ftw! ) So i was able to supplement an alt or 2. In DAoC was a bit harder to farm with my Inf so a good solo char was needed.

What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?:
Usually my favorite class to play is a Priest (Cleric). I enjoy playing a Cleric because I enjoy helping people out the best way I can. So I figured what better way to help out then to be the one laying down the heals and saving their lives. I also enjoy playing a Cleric because it is a tough job and not everyone is suited to it. Takes alot of effort, poise, and a bit of arrogance. You half to know you're the best out there (true or not) so that the ones around you will rally with you to continue on if things start to go wrong. They need to know that in any situation, our cleric will hold up and continue on our fight. That's why I enjoy playing a Cleric.
Do you usually play an alt?:
Usually after I get my main character up to higher levels and I find that I can afford raising up an alt, I do.
If so, what class is your alt?:
Most of the time I like to experience the total package of a game. So I usually roll a Warrior of some type. Usually being the tank class. That way I can still do what I love (saving people) but from a totally different perspective. It not only makes me a better Tank knowing what my Cleric can handle but the same for the reverse. I know how to make my parties Cleric job that much easier because I have been there.

1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
Rogue of course...though a caster type or a paladin may appeal to me also.
2. Do you usually play an alt? And if so, what class is your alt?
It depends on the game, time available and a bit on the mood...If by playing an alt it is possible to discover other parts/aspects of the game then I would play one or another alt but usually focus on the main char.
1. I always prefer the Mellee Class type or the martial art characters. In SWG i loved to play the teras kasi for example becouse of his fighting style.
2. Yes i usually do but i also usually dont like it.
3. Mostly its a crafter or if crafting isnt meaningful i play a healer.
Hello everyone
I am new to the forums here and would like to greet you all and wish you all Happy Holidays.
My main class has always been a Druid.
My alt class usually is a Warrior .
However in DAOC I wasmainly playing my Cabalist tho I started in Hibernia as a Druid we switched to Albion and I went with the Cabalist.
1.) Bard or a hybrid class, depends on what is available in the game.
2.) no, i like to focus on one character and the mmorpg i played most made it possible to do everything on one chararcter

2. Yep.
3. I generally play a mage type as my alt, except in WoW. I played a Warlock as my main and a Hunter as my alt.

What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
I always love playing a wizard character. The feeling of having that ultimate DPS with just the cast of one spell is what i love about the wizard.
Do you usually play an alt?
I only play alts if any of my friends create an ALT. The biggest reason i play MMORPG is to be with my friends, so of course I want to be at the same playing field/level with them.
If so, what class is your alt?
If I do pick an alt its usually warrior type class. My alt characters really revolve around my group of friends and what they have already picked and I just get something to fill in the group.

1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
Generally I prefet to play some sort of 'needed' class that many groups seek. Usually this means I'll play a cleric/healer or an enchanter/crowd control. In EQ1 my favorite class was the enchanter, especially the feeling you have when your puller pulls WAY too many and the whole time you're on your toe's trying desperately to keep your group alive. Always a blast.
2. Do you usually play an alt?
I always play an alt, but I usually don't create any alts until my 'main' character is at least halfway to max level. Then I usually only play this alt when none of my friends are on or I'm just in the mood for something different than my 'main'.
3. If so, what class is your alt?
Since my main is usually a caster of some form (healer/CC), I tend to enjoy any form of melee as my alt. Usually a hybrid type tank (shadow knight/paladin).

2. Yes, once i have my main char at a decent level.
3. Some sort of damage dealing caster, thinking psionisist or necro

1 What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
Normally Warrior, something that can hold a huge sword and chop stuff
2 Do you usually play an alt?
Yes
3 If so, what class is your alt?
If on a PvP server i pick the class that beats my warrior the most, Know your foe!, On PvE/RP its normal the class with the least number of players.

1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I have been hooked on the shaman class since the Kunark expansion of EQ. If something similar is available in a game it is always my first choice.
2. Do you usually play an alt?
Alt'oholic I must admit, anytime playing my main feels like a grind I start an alt. In EQ I currently have 20+ chars but none of the alts have made it past level 54.
3. If so, what class is your alt?
Well, as mentioned above, I do lots of alts. But the first are usually paladins or druids.
1 What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
Main healers. Found my nitch about 10 years ago and stuck with it.
2 Do you usually play an alt?
Rarely
3 If so, what class is your alt?
If I'm playing an alt it means the game has about lost my attention and I'm getting ready to leave. Normally I'm very content to play my healer. If I am on an alt its normally a support class like a Bard.
1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I prefer any pure fighter class. I tend to go with Rogue/Monk
2. Do you usually play an alt?
I usually have several alts
3. If so, what class is your alt?
Generally the class I pick as my primary can not solo and there are times I don't want to group. So my alts generally are classes better suited to soloing like necro or wizard.

1) Ranged/Ranger types
2) ya i eventually make an alt and run him around
3) a healer/caster sort so i can learn how the other half lives
1. Ranger
2. After i have one char endgame
3. a healer class... there will be alot of rangers so i may not get groups to places, healers are needed alot more so i have a higher chance to get a group :)

What class do I like to play in a MMORPG?
My answer to this has changed in the last year. I used to always love being the tank or some sort of Warrior/rogue where I was right in on the action. However over the last year I have found my self playing more caster/ranged roles and loving it!! Maybe its because I am getting older and more experienced in MMO's that I now prefer to stay back and watch everything that is going on.
As a melee class you are so into your target that you really dont see what is going on around you. As a caster/ranged I can see everything and because of this the group depends on me to let them know of a new attacker or needs me to take care of something they dont see. This gives me a whole new side of the game and I love knowing my group depends on me to make the quick and right decisions.
I like almost all casting classes but I guess a Warlock/Sorcerer would be my favorite.
Do you usually play an alt? If so, what class is your alt?
Yes!! I like to try all the characters in the game, otherwise you may miss out on something that you may have enjoyed and would never have known if you did'nt try them. A lot of times my alternates also turn out to be my main crafters, really depends on the games setup.
Usually my alternates end up being the other caster class I prefer after testing each one but usually that turns out being a Mage.
1. I played a warrior in EQ1 for 4.5 years and play a Templar in EQ2 for 1.5 year now but plan to go back to Warrior for Vanguard.
2. yes I like to have an Alt.
3. Usually a solo class as both warrior and Templar werent real soloers in EQ.

1When I was hooked on EQ2 I enjoyed the DD type classes, with a warlock as my main. For Vanguard I'm planning on rolling a cleric, an occupation that'll let me get right in the mobs' faces and keep my wife's avatar alive at the same time :)
2. I usually have one, at most two alts.
3. For Vanguard, I'm probably going to have a warrior and a sorceror for alts.

- I usually play some sort of long range magic caster. Mostly associated with Mage. This game will be going Sorcerer (gnome infact).

- Sometimes, usually a healer for a change of pace, would rather focus on a main though.
I played a bard as my main in EQ1, WOW was a rouge, FF11 is a monk, EQ2 was a ranger. the bard in EQ1 was my favorite.
Ranger is usualy may alt. but I like to try out a few classes just to getter a better feel of the game from all classes.
for Vanguard im probly gana have a Bard and a monk as an alt.
What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
I play Rogues in almost all games, but often I also create the character needed most to complete the group or raid setup required within my guild.
Do you usually play an alt?
I will fill every character slot I have with the major classes I perfer to play. In both eq1 and eq2 I ended up with full slots of max level characters.
If so, what class is your alt?
I alway have a pocket healer for two box situations and usually make up a solo class like monk or necro for those times when none of my friends are online.

1. Going all the way back to pen and paper rpgs and thru MUDS (really dating myself here), I have always played Paladins. With EQ I opted for something different and went monk and then rogue. So pretty much always with the melee.
2. The more the merrier. I love creating alts and giving them their own little histories and backrounds (wow do I sound like a geek :( ).
3. I reloaded EQ1 about 4 months ago and to be totally different I rolled up a Necro (I never play pure casters). The versatility of the class is amazing. It has really changed the way I look at casters and I might even try a caster in Vanguard.

1. Throughout all the MMO's that I have played, I always stick to a magic based class. I prefer to stand in the back and lay in my spells and not be up close and personal.
2. After I get my main character to a decent level, with decent equipment, I always start an alternate character.
3. My alternate is usually a melee type, as I am able to keep some items that I find with my main, for my alt, and have a new type of character to play with.
1. Favorite class for mmorpgs is a ranged type melee'r. Hunter/Ranger for instance.
2. I have about 8+ alts on every mmorpg I have ever played. Daoc, WoW, EQ1, EQ2, CoH, FFXII .... probably left a few out.
3. Typicially a healer or stealth class.

3. The alt will most likely be a disciple.

As far as gameplay is concerned, I usually prefer to play whichever class allows me to sit back somewhat and strategize, while simultaneously helping to control the fight either through damage or effects. However, I'm a big fan of the roleplaying aspect of MMORPGS, and will just as frequently pick whichever class I can create an enjoyable backstory and personality for. And of course, I always need to make a martial artist; one class which I've recently been quite wanting for, and am definitely looking forward to rediscovering.
I always play an alt. I always play many alts. The lower levels are usually the most enjoyable to me. The experience of discovering new class features, locations, and friends is always a big draw once the tedium and repetition of higher levels set in.
Because of these reasons, I usually end up (at some point in my relationship with a game) playing through every class available, and typically take joy in every one of them.

3. I like to play the caster classes when I roll an alt.

1. I Normally am forced into some Tank roll for the greater good of my perma group.

1.What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I have always played a Dwarf Paladin in most if not all the mmorpgs I have played. But recently I have moved more into the Bow using classes. Ranger in Horizons was a blast I hope to be able to do that in Vanguard if posible.
2. Do you usually play an alt?
I had always gotten into the rutt where I would try out almost every race class combo there is but that was when I had more time on my hands. I now try to keep it down to a main and a few others ... using the others for extra storage and a little fun.
3. If so, what class is your alt?
Druid or some other transporation / utility class.

I love playing alts. I have tried to make an alt of every class just to get a taste for everyone's abilities. My favorite alt is a warrior though. After playing a caster in raid situations there is something special about getting on my alt and being able to whack on the mobs up close. :lol

In EQ I played a rogue. In WoW I played a rogue and then a mage and then a hunter. I tend to like big numbers flash by so that's usually what I play.
2. Do you usually play an alt?If so, what class is your alt?
Definitely love alts. In WoW my alts were rogues, warriors and priests. In EQ my alt was a cleric and then a variety of mini-alts like bards, beastlords and warriors. Even a ranger. I tend towards alt-ADD.
1. I normally play a mage or summoning class. When that is not possible I will pick up a wizard or offence casting class. However I really think I will have to try the Psionicist. It just has too many interesting things I have read about it but the bard for the first time in any game runs a close second.
2. Only game I played an alt in was EQ and that was because of how slow things went.
3. I would want a healer or buffing class as the alt

1: What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
Different with each MMO I have played, as classes very in how you play them from MMO to MMO (Warlock on Dark age of Camelot differs from Warlock on WoW), Generally start out with Casters, such as a Mage, Druid, or Priest, but more recently I've played as Melee Damage type classes,
2: Do you usually play an alt?
Yes, after getting close to end game when it starts taking longer to ding, or when the grind gets long, I'll start up another toon.
3: If so, what is your alt?
Most cases the opposite of my Main, to experience the different ways to handle each class and get to know strengths/weaknesses. Tanks or damage dealer melee. such as Rogue/Warrior are generally what I take as an alt, but as in my first post in more recent MMOs It's been Casters.
1. Mage/Black mage. The damage Dealers
2. Not really, I didnt until WoW
3. Rogue, which became my main when i quit mage's server.

1: What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? : Generally, I prefer to play Scouts and Ranger type classes. I am a huge fan of hybrid classes or classes that are more utility than specifically damage dealing/soaking and healing. The Ranger class usually fills that role.
2: Do you usually play an alt?: I usually will play at least 2 alts.
3: If so, what is your alt?: 1 will generally be a fighter type class with a (oh so slight) preference towards Paladin or protective fighters. The second is usually a caster class with a preference towards Necromancer types. Again, I generally like more utility type classes or hybrids over pure damage dealing/soaking or healing types. :) ...

I usually play as a caster, but if been studding the Vanguard SoH classes for a long time. I've decided to become a Psionicist, because I will be enable to help other people by telling them how much monsters they will lure and dealing a nice amount of damage/minute
2. Do you usually play an alt?
I always first level my main char. for about 2 months. After that I'll have seen lots of other classes and if I think there will be an other class that I will enjoy I'll make it my alternative Class.
3. If so, what class is your alt?
I'm sure it will become a healing class in Vanguard. Helping my clan/friends through the hardest times. I think my alternative class in Vanguard will become a Bloodmage since it has life drain, but I still have to see if it fits in my tactics.

Yes. Once I've managed to level my sneaky sneakster up I like to try out other classes.

I like to head in the melee direction. Normally a Beserker or Monk, although I have also played a Fury alt before. Basically anything that can hurt people without having to wriggle his fingers to achieve it is the class for me! No finger wrigglers!!!!

1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
Depends on the game mechanics. Generally I got for twitchy characters like rogues or interesting hybrids like shadowknights or even EQ2 Brigands. Without a doubt I avoid glass cannon characters like mages/spellcasters, and generally am not suited to healing classes.
2. Do you usually play an alt? And if so, what class is your alt?
Almost never play an alt. After I've been in the game a while I sometimes roll a healer to help a friend level (buffs/heals), but I like focusing on one character.
1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
My only mmo experience so far is WoW, in that game I played a beserk Combat Rogue/Engineer. Despite my build, I did great in pvp, expecially with all my gadgets :P.
In Vanguard i'm going to be a Melee Ranger/Alchemist. I don't plan on going into diplomacy. I heard from a few beta players and from the forums that Rangers can be great in melee :D
2. Do you usually play an alt?
I made one in world of warcraft, so yes. I don't plan to make one in vanguard though, with all the other things I can do like player housing and with all of the customization, I won't need to.
Plus the guild that i'm co-leading is gonna need to get potions for pvp raids from someone >_<

1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
Usually in an mmorpg i pick a healer or somewhat defensive class, i prefer to support the group than to just be out in the front lines, i was a monk in guild wars and a doctor in star wars galaxies, as well a healer as primary powers in city of heroes.
2. Do you usually play an alt?
Not often do i play an alt because then my effort is distributed between the two characters, i prefer to just focus everything on my one character.
3. If so, what class is your alt?
If i ever make an alt on a game, it is usually the opposite of my main character, often an offensive or melee based character. ^^

Cleric (normally a healing class)
Do you usually play an alt? 1 or 2 no more than 2, I believe too many alternates can slow down you down on the main, so I usually stop at 2 and even then I play one of the two more than the other, it usually the second class I like the most.

Hello people, I hope you are all looking forward to Vanguard as much as I am, here are my answers, and good luck to all for being able to get in the closed beta.
1.What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
I prefer healers, Priests/Clerics mainly. I enjoy being the support to the big beefy types and the ease of always finding a group :).
Do you usually play an alt?
Yes, sometimes you just need a change of pace, and the abilty to explore if you are better at other play styles ( and have fun doing it )
If so, what class is your alt?
Any and all usually, but I usually go for damage classes first since I usually play a support class as a main.
1. I don't have a particular favorite, it depends on the game and how they approach different classes. I pick the one that grabs me as something fun to roleplay. I often enjoy hybrid healers like druids or paladins.
2. My name is Vaywen, and I am an altoholic. :)
3. I usually have a whole stable of them - I have this strange drive to try every class in a given game.

Post your "Answers" below:
1: i almost always play light or heavy melee characters. the one exception being a druid i played in EQ as an alt. ranged classes never really appealed to me as much as up front characters. for vanguard however, i have pretty much made up my mind on playing a monk. i like the idea of a damage centric class who specializes in opening up possibilities for teamates.
2: don't usually play alts, however in WoW i was almost forced into making a hunter alt after reaching 60 on my rogue.
3: very tempted to make a healer alt in vanguard to see what its like to play a fundamentally 'group support' oriented class that (it seems) will also be able to do some damage/solo/contribute a bit outside of healing.
1.What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
I'm more of a Caster type of person myself, I like doin insane magical spells that keep me visually entertained.
2.Do you usually play an alt?
I usually have a alt or 2 for when I get really frustrated with my current character and feel like changing it up.
3.If so, what class is your alt?
My alt is usually a hack and slash character cause its fun to just wail on things sometimes.

1. I prefer to play a crowd control type of character, enchanter in eq1, illusionist in eq2, probably psionicist in vanguard.
2. Yes, all the time.
3. I usually end up playing healers with my friends, since I'm the only one who will. I usually like damage dealing types, though. In eq1 i played a cleric, who actually became my main after a while. In eq2 my main is a fury, which I really like the idea of. In vanguard my alt of choice will probably be druid.

I liked the rogue, but nowadays a tank or ranged damage dealer is more my cup of tea.
Yar, I have alts. I usually try out every type of character.
And they often overtake my 'main' if I happen to get bored of same-old, same-old. Doing things from another perspective helps keep it interesting.

1. What is your favorite class to play?
I've played a lot of classes over the years. Started as a cleric in EQ1 and I really enjoyed it. Then I moved to DAoC and started playing one of the rogue classes there and fell in love, my main class for every game since then(EQ2, WoW) has been the rogue.
2. Do you play alts? If so, what class(es)?
Yes, I play alts all the time. If not for a break from my main from time to time, it's so I can learn some of how that class works, to find weaknesses in it's defenses. In EQ1 my primary alts were a monk and a beastmaster, in EQ2 i had a guardian and an inquisitor. I didn't have any alts in DAoC cause i didn't play long enough. In WoW i think i've played every class except the hunter to at least level 20, gotten 2 rogues to 60(one ally, one horde) a druid to mid-50's and a mage to 60.

I always played healers... Of course, vanguard threw monkey wrench into that. Now I'm thinking of either Necro, Bard, Shaman, or Warrior.... One from each archtype ^_^
Hey all, been away from the Safehouse for a while but this Vanguard thing is in danger of dragging me back to these silly MMORPGS ;p
1) What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
Rogue!
2) Do you usually play an alt?
Yes, although usually very very infrequently.
3) If so, what class is your alt?
Tend to have 3-4 alts of various classes just to mess around with - usually at least one tank, one healer, one something else - like to try all classes at least once, however briefly.
hey guys :)
1. I usually start out as a support class for the group of friends that i usually play all games with. I prefer DPS if there is alot of action, not if its only like WoW when as a rogue i would backstab backstab eviscerate!
2. yes, many alts
3. I play what ever class i see that i wanna play while playing my main

1# What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
My first main in EQ1 was a ranger. I played her for about 5 and 1/2 years. After going back to school, I did not have the time to spend looking for groups with my limited play time. I chose to play a necromancer as my new main because of her soloing capabilities.
2# Do you usually play an alt?
I do have many alts that I play in EQ1.
3# If so, what class is your alt?
I have mage, enchanter, beastlord, bard, warrior, cleric, shaman, and wizard ( I have more than one account).

The Class i would prefer to play would be a monk. That seems to me my favorite calss type from eq1 and 2 i would first start off with that.
I usually play alts. just when i feel that my main character has achieved a certin level.
I always play my alt as a counter part to my main, so if i start off with a monk my alt would usually be a caster such as a mage type

hello everyone,
1. i have almost exclusively played a ranger type class in most other MMOs... but i want to give healer a try so think i'm going to go with disciple in vanguard.
2. yep i usually do have an alt.
3. usually some type of crafter... for aiding my main character and adding some income.

What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I usually like to play hybrid classes in mmorpgs. Something like a SK or a druid just because i love to cast but i dont like pure casters and i love to fight in combat close close fight but pure fighter bores me. So that is why i like to play hybrids
Do you usually play an alt?
Yes i have a main char and i have an alt. I will make a bunch of alts till I find one that i like then that becomes my main. Then my second fav becomes my alt when i cant play my main.
If so, what class is your alt?
My alts are just my second fav class in mmorpgs which are usually like a caster like a mage or wizard. Or who ever is the best for soloing because i dont put as much time into alts as main i dont really group as much with an alt.
What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I like to play the tank in games, in WoW I was a Paladin, and in SWG I was a Pikeman/Teras Kasi. In this game I will play as a Warrior.
Do you usually play an alt?
Yes, usually on the same server and an opposite class.
If so, what class is your alt?
My alt would be a crafting class, and in Vanguard he will be a Blacksmith, specializing in Armor. And on a side note, I do not consider my alt an alternate character, I consider him another main character, and I treat him as such, as in completing my goals for him and being succesful with my business. Not just logging on him once a week.

1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I often prefer a very offensive character. I have noticed I play the Mage/Sorcerer class very often. After reading RA Salvatore books lately I am obsessed with Melee characters and the Dark Elf in Vanguard has me overwhelmed with anticipation.
2. Do you usually play an alt? And if so, what class is your alt?
I definitely would play an alt, more than one alt actually. I like to try out different classes at first and alot of times ask other players about their chosen class. The class I would choose would probably depend on my main.
If I were to play a Rogue as my main, I would play a Sorcerer or Psionicist as my alt and vice versa. A crafting or group supportive character would be a 3rd alt.

My favorite class to play since EQ1 was Bard, Because i love to sing and dance and get my freak on, bards take a unique role in video games they are one of the only classes that dont use the basic description as caster or melee. They are hybrids they dont use spells and their melee is abit weeker than pure melee but add the songs which add both together make you a tough foe in groups pvp. I perfer to be the class that helps everyone by just abit better with the bard abilities your skills benefit everyone.
Healers love you, Dps love you, slow people love you. your a person everyone would love to have in their group and thats what i like to do is help people out.
Alt everyone usually has an alt my favorite alt is a fun race like gnome or dwarf that can make some fun in roleplaying. If i could i would of loved to have a dwarf shaman. Could have some fun times with that mix.
alt i play the most would be paladin its hard to stop a melee that just sits there and heals.
one of my everquest 1 roleplaying stories was when my gnome mage was powerlevleing one of my friends in veks lab and a group of gnomes were there and i thought i would talk to my peeps and so i roleplayed as a pimp gnome who was offering his hot sexy female dark elf friend for 3plat per min we both got into it and they took us seriously. thought i might be 2boxing but we played it cool.
Gosh brings back memories.
Thanks

1. My favorite class to play is always any type of non-cloth wearing healer. I used to like the cleric type holy healers, but after EQ and EQ2 I love shamans. I love healing people, and even better I love healing people in an unconventinal way whether it be mitigating damage or condition activated heals.
2. Yes. I love playing all the healer classes and tank classes. sometimes my alts even turn into my main character.
3. Like I said I like to try each healer (except the clothies). Healers draw too much agro and are too vital to the group to be wearing cloth. What is surprising to most people is that I like playing tanks almost as much as healers. I think that if I understand the basics of tanking I can become a better healer and if I understand at least the basics of healing I can be a better tank. Mostly I like saving people's butts when they get in trouble. Whether it be by restoring their health or taking the damage for them.
1. I usually play a support class as a main. Like in EQ2 I played a Dirge in Wow I played a Druid main.
2. I always play alt.s. Usually as many as are allowed.
3. I like to even out my alts. by type. Like if 8 characters are allowed and there are four archtypes I try to play 2 of each archtype.
Lowfer
1)Usually play a range class, like hunter/mage/ranger sort
2)Almost always have a alt at first till i find the class i like
3)Tank, healer sorts
1). a pallie,i need to heal and have a combat. 2). no time for a alt.

"What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?"
Any form of melee class, I love hearing the sound of my weapon going through the air, the clang when two weapons collide, the sound of hitting armor, and just generally smacking things and making them go "BLARG!"
"Do you usually play an alt?"
Yes, definitely. I wouldn't get nearly as much out of my games if I didn't have one, or multiples.
"If so, what class is your alt?"
Usually some form of caster or ranged damage dealer if I originally decide on a melee class, I'm never been into healers.
1. I tend to play the psychological harasser. The assassin type or the DoT variety (aka WoW Warlock ).
2. I play an alt when I want to try out a different character type or when I am bored with my current class.
3. Generally modified versions of the classes stated in #1. If my main is an assassin class, I tend to make the DoT class, and vice versa.

1)Well I must admit to the fact that I really only have ever played as a Ranger. Part of it is due to the flexibility of the class (most recent end game rangers in eq1 had a nice variety of good damaging spells, very nice bow abilities, and a full set of melee capabilities backing them up as well. Also my affinity to this class is due to a few real life factors as well.
My brother is a Ranger in the United States Army, and I feel its a good luck charm to play the class (its corny yeah I know). Plus I myself used to live on a farm in Oregon, and being one with the wild was something I could feel inside me. Not to mention my interest in archery, now if only I were as good as my characters in the games hehe.
Most rangers do dual wielding swords, but I always loved to have a sword and a dagger, was a more realistic combination in my opinion, and in every mmo i have played there have been some nice ranger weapons of both types.
While the ranger over the years in EQ had been the target of many a mockery, I feel this is partially due to the popularity of the class. Since everyone and their cousin has at one time made a ranger, and perhaps at a time when their knowledge of the class was less than satisfactory to a exp group or raid, it could have made a bed rep for the class as a whole. All aside though I have always, and probably always will, roll a ranger who either fletches or makes food. If ya find me in game look me up, Letha's the name, wood elf's the face, would be glad to be of any assistance at all =)
2 + 3) as mentioned above, I never really have tried an alt. My brother usually goes necro and sometime I do fool around with his character though.
1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I prefer a nature/animal oriented class. In EQ for example, Beastlord (before they broke us).
2. Do you usually play an alt?
Only rarely. In the past the only time I play an alt is if there's no way at all left to advance my main. I prefer to stick to my main most of the time.
3. If so, what class is your alt?
I usually pick something completely different from my main for alts. In EQ for example, I have an enchanter as my main alt.

1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
My main in EQ was a Ranger. My main in EQ2 is a Templar.
2. Do you usually play an alt?
I usually play as many as allowed.
3. If so, what class is your alt?
I try to play the opposite of my main character.
What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I don't necessarily have a preference or exclusive class I try to limit myself to when playing different MMOs, really. Over the years my class has kind of played a secondary role to my character, completing the image and persona of the type of character i'd like to play. When I played EQ as a kid, I played the self-sacrificing Paladin, always putting his life before those of others, without hesitation. After I moved from EQ to FFXI I tried out most of the classes, but eventually grew to love both Samurai and Monk. I'm not quite sure what i'll end up playing in Vanguard, but i've got my eye on a few possibilities. I love how the team is making an effort to really give each class its respective flavah and everything, and can't wait to see it for myself.
Do you usually play an alt?
Yes, i'm also a self-admitted altoholic. I generally have a main I stick to, but whenever things just ain't going right, or I see some other class run by some shiny-cool set of gear, it usually results in an alt or two, and an "Are you Serious" look from my more hardcore friends haha. But I usually make a few to escape the slow crawl of xp at higher levels, and give a new class or starting area a spin.
If so, what class is usually your alt?
Whatever is the flavor of the week? Haha, no, I don't know. Usually whatever I think will make a cool character. I'll probably have some type of Ranger or Psionicist as my alts in Vanguard.

2.) Yes - either one of each bard class (if there are more than 1, e.g. skald, minstrel, bard) or one of each archetype
3.) In the last mmorpg i played (eq2) i had a shadowknight, a warden, a conjurer and of course a troubador

This is my first visit to this website and I'm glad to see one dedicated to the dark arts!
1. What class do you prefer to play in a MMORPG?
Having played in so many different MMORPGs its hard to say I prefer one over the other. I do have a tendency to play more archer class types than others.
2. Do you usually play an alt?
Heh Some of my MMO friends think I go overboard on this. I usually fill all my slots with alts. I like the ability to play whatever class I'm in the mood for. Because of this I usually do crafting and have each alt do a different craft. Makes me more self sufficient.
3. If so, what class is your alt?
My main alt is usually something with a different play style than my main. If my main is a Rogue, I might make a Paladin. If my main is a Warrior, I might make a Mage. Like I said previously I tend to create a bunch of alts. Usually all different races and classes.

1. What class do you prefer to play in a MMORPG?
I will forever be partial to the Rogue class. Back in 2001 when I was first introduced to MMORPG’s by a friend who played EQ, I rolled a Rogue (Teeppas) because I liked the description written in the EQ manual that came with the game. This was my first ever character in a MMORPG. I quickly fell in love with the EQ Rogue class and played him exclusively. Did not even have and alt until level 60 which was when I learned what a “mule” was. I have tried other Rogue classes in many other games, but none ever lived up to my expectations that the first EQ Rogue did. So far, the only one coming close to what I think a Rogue should be is the DDO Rogue.
2. Do you usually play an alt?
I do not really have the patience to work on more than one character at a time. I tend to get a bit attached to my main character. I also prefer to stick to leveling/gearing/advancing one character. If I roll an alt, it is for mule purposes only (I am a HUGE pack rat) or to buy something in an area that my main character cannot buy in. I admire those who can level two or more characters to maximum level on the same server. Closest I have come to having two maximum level characters is Teeppas on one server, and a Shaman on The Combine server.
3. If so, what class is your alt?
See #2. Since they are bank/inventory mules, I just pick whatever I happen to click on.
1 What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
"I like to play a paladin :thumb , becouse he stands for the ultimate power of godness. Also I want him to swing a sword, simply becouse then he is (in my eyes) a noble knight. with the code of chivalry at heart."
2 Do you usually play an alt?
"Yes, I tend do to."
3 If so, what class is your alt?
"A magic spell-caster is always fun from time to time." :)

1. For over 6 years now I play a druid whenever this class is availible.
2. Although I tend to focus on one char in the beginning I like to explore other classes once I've leveled my main to a reasonable level. I enjoy trying other classes as well so I usually have 1 - 2 alts.
3. Most of my alts are some kind of casters but as druid moved over to nuking my first VG alt is going to be a healer, shaman prolly. I' also interested in the VG bard, so I'm gonna have a look on that too.
Good luck everyone

1. Bard, all the way - I love the idea of the class (helps that I find them fun to play :D ), or at least the way the class was in EQ1
2. I usually have a couple of alts just in case I need to spice things up (if my main is stuck in an area I don't particularly like, if there's a quest I need a group of people for that I can't find at the moment, etc.)
3. I try to make alts that have different roles from my main - so it depends what my main is :P I usually don't have tanks for mains though, so a warrior/paladin/shadowknight is a pretty regular choice for me for an alt.

1) I prefer the Druid class (or hybrid type classes.) I played a druid in EQ for 4 years and EQ2 (Fury.) Also had a druid and shaman in WoW.
2) I am typically the powergamer type so I do not play alts.
3) If and when I do have an alt they are typically a melee type character (ie monk or rogue.)

1.Almost always I'll start off with a tank. A good tank is hard to find! Between pulling, crowd control, and caster saving, there's plenty for a tank to do in the middle of a fight and you can't be sleeping on the job. Basically a group can really benefit from a good solid tank.
Gear hunting involded with being a tank constantly keeps you intrested as well. You always have new gear to attain while you're leveling and stats for a tank are just as important as how you play them.
2 & 3.I usually start an alt well after I have played any given MMO for awhile. My alts are always something very different from a tank style class. Tanks can be restrictive as far as exploration and experimenting, so I like the hybrid classes for my alts. This way I can play around with the game and not worry so much about achieving constantly. I can search areas, help others with spells, and devote more time to crafting. Alts have always been supplemental to the traditional combat style I like, but they have always been a lax way of playing that I've liked.
1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I love the healer class. Just the fact that the group hangs in my hands many of times is just a power rush for me. It gives me a feeling that i'm needed and important. I guess this stems from deeper emotional issues that I need a therapist to sort out. Oh well, until then MMORPG's work.
2. Do you usually play an alt?
Nopers. I hate playing tanks because trying to concentrate whose getting him on and then trying to taunt puts to much pressure on me. I feel like, when i'm a mage, i'm useless. Rogues, I have a abandonment issues so I don't like be a loner.
3. If so, what class is your alt?
When I don't play a healer, I play a nerd who just runs around doing countless /dance, /rude or any other thing to waste technology on.

1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I tend to stick to the melee class characters such as knight, spearmen, worrior, ext. In many games I've played as a spearmen so i will better my guild with an aoe. Allowing me to hit many characters leaveing the guilds knights with an easier kill on our opponants.
2. Do you usually play an alt?
Yes, but I stick to my main till i have a strong build and equipment to hold my own. After leaning the game basics and am well knowledged in the game then i will often start an alt.
3. If so, what class is your alt?
My alt is usually an archer or a mage to try something new. So i can be informed with all character skills to show me what i will need to make my main a better rounded character for fighting all characters.

1. Definetely a melee DPS class. Mainly Rogues. :) Usually isn't hard to find a group as awesome DPS.
2. Sometimes. Always have to see how the otherside lives.
3. Ranger. Just to get the "bowyer" out of my system. Sometimes a plate user. Though, I'm usually pretty horrible at being MT. :rip

1) Ill play a Rogue or possibly a Ranger.
My intrest in fantasy games was kindled by reading Salvators "Dark Elf" trilogy
I played a ranger in Baulders gate but that class never seemed to fit the impression that Drizzt made. in EQ I tried a ranger but then i feel in love w/ the Roguer class. I joined "the ring" and began my stealthy exploits around norrath.. was a good 3 years.. after PoP i decided to hang Fizz's Blades up
I played a Rog in WoW. was very fun but i missed the CRs and complexities of early EQ.
Now Vanguard comes out .. THe rogue class leaves me drooling .. but theres also the ranger . straight out of fantasy fiction . this class is going to be awesome.. im torn .
2) i dont play alts too much. ill make a mule and maybe one class id like to dink around on but nothing very serious.
Sorry about my spelling

1.) My all time favorite role is definately the warlock/necromancer type class as it was my main in EverQuest and kind of stuck with me ever since (warlock in WoW, Necro guy in diablo 2) Basically, I like to be evil or play an evil class.
2.) I have a buttload of alts and it is rare that i play any one of them for more than 10-20 hours each although some of them become new mains for me.
3.) When I make an alt there is no set class that I will make. I generally like to try out every class and generally am loosly tied to just one character for very long. It is not so much that I have one main that i spend most of my time on so much as it is that I play one character for a few months and move on to the next.
1. I prefer to play the defensive tank types. The protection spec war in wow was a good example. I went down the protection talent spec full on first thing when it wasn't all that cool.
2. I don't usually play alts until I've maxed out my first char. Then I run them all the way up and start over again. Hopefully Vanguard is long enough lasting that it will take a very long time before I am forced to start an alt.

1. Rogue
2. Sometimes
3. Shaman
What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
Bard is number one for me. Maybe a healer or pally depends on the game.
Do you usually play an alt?
Yes but most of the time i don't get them to maxed level.
If so, what class is your alt?
Caster or healer, dark knight or pally depends on the game.

1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
I usually prefer to play healing classes, however, I like damage casters as well. Priests, druids, sorcerors, paladin.
2. Do you usually play an alt? And if so, what class is your alt?
I always have multiple alts. I usually try just about every caster in a game before deciding on a main.
I'm leaning towards the blood mage class at this point, though I do like to be necromancers

1. My usual class in an MMO is the ranger. Started off playing one in DnD and it been that way ever since.
2. Yes, I plan to have at least 2 alts.
3. My alts are Abdiel, who if possible will be a gnome disciple, and Zane who will be a high elf sorceror.
1. I love playing Bards. I love playing them because usually they are a ballance in the offensive or supportive roll. Usually its the first class I play in a game.
2. I usually have a alt.
3. Its usually a arcane caster. I know in vanguard my alt will be a blood mage.

1. I lean towards the more magical classes as my starting class. I always start off as the wizard or mage. Their is something about magic that I love so much. It is so mysterious and beautiful. Rarely will I ever venture into any class that doesn't have any magical abilities, such as fighters or rogues, but I do dabble form time to time. I also love rangers or hunters, anyone that uses a bow as their weapon of choice.
2. I am notorious for my alts. I played Dark Age of Camelot for two years without a character over level 40 (and yes I am quite serious). Actually I have only once ever reached maximum level with a character and I have played many, many MMO's for many, many years. It is actually quite sad, but hey I love exploring everything the game has to offer.
3. Well I will make an alt for pretty much every class in the game. I then proceed to level them each little by little. But my alts generally tend to be all the other types of casters (including healers), especially those with summon magic, then rangers or hunters and sometimes I will go so far as try out the stealthers. If I am in the mood I will create a warrior or fighter that uses just physical prowess, but that is usually quite rare.

Who was the lucky winner? :)
Unfortunately, because of NDA reasons, this contest like most of the others can't announce who won, because that would be akin to them breaking their NDA in saying they got into the beta.

Really all the SH staff can post here is that they PM'd the winner, and that if you didnt get a PM< it means you didnt win. They should announce when they send out the PM's to the winners though, so you can stop checking your inbox then.

1) I think the question pertains to one's play style and the abilities or attributes that one feels to be important. I almost always play a mana based class of some kind, but one thing that I've learned about myself as a player over the years is that I'm rather defense oriented. Survivability is the name of the game for me, and so I often find myself building characters that, while they may not hit as hard as some, are still alive at the end of the fight.
Paladins are always a good choice. The combination of heavy armor and healing spells makes them a very durable class, capable of standing at the front lines of melee combat without risking death. The fact that many players value the paladin as an ally is a plus as well. Its nice to feel wanted. :)
One of my main WoW characters was a human mage. With frost talents the WoW mages are decently hardy and have a number of tricks up their sleeve to escape sticky situations. I enjoy being able to control the momentum of the fight, freezing enemies in place while I orient myself for combat.
I have played a rouge, ;). but the lack of mana and the inability to duck out of trouble annoyed me. The basic premise of the rouge is "I kill you before you kill me," and I prefer to have a few more tricks in my bag than that.
I suppose I'll list the Paladin as my definite favorite, with the addition of other defensible classes for variety.
2) I almost always play an alt, even if its just to goof around on when there's nothing happening with my main. I try to choose alts by exploring a character class that I might not have otherwise played. A priest, for instance, or a shaman. I usually try to do something unconventional with my alts if at all possible. For instance, I may try to play a Dark Knight, but focus more on his spell casting abilities than his melee. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't, it depends on the restrictions of the game, but I like trying to think outside of the box. There's nothing more satisfying than surprising an opponent with an attack strategy they didn't expect you to be capable of.
Its been enjoyable thinking up these answers. Thanks.

The new thread is already up though so post there and you'll get a shot at winning that one :)
======= A WINNER HAS BEEN PICKED ==========
Check your PMs!
Reminder: Due to NDA restrictions, if you are the winner, DO NOT post that you won! You can do so when/if the NDA is lifted but don't say anything about it now.
Thanks again to all who participated, feel free to keep this discussion thread going but please don't turn it into an "I didn't win!" thread or we'll disqualify the winner by process of elimination ;)
1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
Healing, tanking, and DPSing don't appeal to me. Crowd control, indirect damage, XP optimization, and pulling are of interest to me as a longtime EQ1 Enchanter. I'm looking at Psionicist for Vanguard.
2. Do you usually play an alt?
As a one-MMO-so-far kind of guy, I can say that I do have some alts, but they get played in spurts only.
3. If so, what class is your alt?
My first alt was a beastlord, who I passed up at level 56 with my gnecro, now 57. Recently, though, I started two-boxing and ran a druid quickly up to 68 to act as my port ho and pet snarer.
Love,
Hae
PS - Yay for The Safehouse!

1. I enjoy playing a melee/DPS class mostly but also play the occasional rouge.
2. I almost always have an alt so I can try out different parts of the game or a crafting alt.
3. His class is usually a mage class like a necromancer or DPS mage and sometimes but rarely a healer.
1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
I tend to play Warriors. I enjoy the challenges of managing aggro.
2. Do you usually play an alt?
I do tend to play alts when I can. I feel it's important to understand the different roles and their challenges, which in turn allows me to make better decisions while tanking.
3. If so, what class is your alt?
Normally a high aggro class, so I can get a feel for what's necessary for both a class and a tank to keep aggro on the tank.
And sometimes you just like to blow up stuff, heh.

1) Rogue.
2) Nope, first MMO was FFXI and you could change jobs at will, but I just kept trying to be the best at my original job (Thief) I could be.
3) My second job in FFXI was Paladin.
1) I like any ranged class, mostly caster or healer. Tho assasin in Everquest 2 was fun, too.
2) I don't play alts, unless I have reached max level with my main class and no buddy is online whom I can group with.
3) Again, anything ranged.
1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG?
Paladin- gotta love the everlasting lives and self-sufficiency
2. Do you usually play an alt?
I am always playing on my alt . My alt in EQ is a ranger

The character i usually play on mmos is a rogue, yes I really do, Im not just saying it to win a beta key.
I like the dark shadowy figure type character who goes around in stealth, the rogue is quite powerful in world of warcraft, where I currently play, as you can hide yourself from others which helps greatly when you need to suprise attack or get past other players unseen.
Due to my liking of the rogue type, my full ingame name is Shade Maelstorm.
Yes I play an alt on wow. Its a lev 52 healing druid and I made it cause I needed to be able to craft some end instance fire resist gear for all the warriors in the guild Im in. Also cause they dont have hardly any healing druids in the guild.
Even though I am trying to help them through getting my alt to level 60, I still have to find other people to group with when Im leveling the alt, other guildies do not seem to want to help me level.
Hehe, ah well, I think some people wont be getting high end crafted fire resist gear soon. :)
Cheers
Shade Maelstorm
1; I have always played a healer class as my main raiding toon. I played a Cleric in EQ and a Priest in WoW. I have tried several other classes but always seem to come back to a healing class.
2: Depends on the game. In EQ I didn't play an alt becuase you could continue to better your toon through grinding AA points. In WoW I played alts because when we weren't raiding there was nothing to do after 60. I found the Battlegrounds to be boring after a week of the same Horde but kicking over and over. So alts were a way to pass time.
3: When I did play an alt it was generally a caster class such as a Mage.

1. In the past I halways played a cleric in mmo's, however, I couldn't bring myself to play the priest in wow and after playing around with a few other classes I settled on the rogue and fell in love with the whole concept. Now I have whole heartedly thrown my support into having a rogue as a main in VGSoH.
2. When I do play an alt, I usually choose a class that is completely different from the one I am currently playing. In WoW I play a Warlock as my alt class. In EQ I boxed my cleric and a monk fairly often. So, as you can see, I seem to choose completely different classes.
anyways, that is just my two cents worth.

1. What class do you prefer to play in an MMORPG? (no, this isn't a trick question, if you don't answer Rogue you won't be disqualified).
Support class of some form or another, something with DoTs, and few direct damage, that benefiets a large group.
2. Do you usually play an alt?
On occassion
3. If so, what class is your alt?
A direct spell damage dealer, similiar in some regards to what my main would be, but different (subtle differences are still differences).

I always prefer to play the darkest class in any game, be it a Warlock or Necromancer.
As far as alts go, I have from time to time played one which ends up usually being some type of primary healer.

I pretty much go with the class I think i will have the most fun with. I tend to enjoy helping people out but When vanguard is released I will most likely play a necromancer.(played one in EQ1)
I usually create an alt after I have gained 30 or so lvls on my main. If I do create an alt it will be to try out other classes on the game. Usually I research Classes before creating one:)
what I will most likely do is... create the polor oppsite class of my main. I.E. My main is a cleric, I will probably make DPS class(rogue or monk) or Tank class(war, paly,sk) my alt.
And vise-versa =P

I have always played a rogue, thief, cutpurse, burgler type of characters. My love for them stems back in the 80's from playing a D&D Rogue.
Do you usually play an alt?
I always play an alt!!!
f so, what class is your alt?
Usually a tank or magic user.
This thread is interesting, I have never locked myself into one character type before looking at the them all.
I think I mostly look for challenging and very important for me is one that not many play. I like a class that makes me somewhat unique.
Always have played alts, but when I finally decide on one I like, I usually play it hard and just fool around with others.
Bloodmage or Cleric look good to me right now, but still considering
