1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

Ouch, that is a hard question.
I've been in the beta of Dark age of Camelot.
Since i liked that game so much I played it for 2 years.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

Yes I did. It wasn't that long ago. I was playing EVE when World of Warcraft came out. I quitted playing EVE but my subscription fee was already payed for the next 2 months. In the same time I played WoW I also played Guild Wars, but that hasn't a sub. fee and I didn't like the pvp and leveling system. I've finished Guild Wars (the original) in 1 week. It was way too short for me.

1) Everquest since August 1999
2) No, after Everquest I played Everquest 2 (how original) and no other mmorpg's, only some free

1. I was introducted to Everquest when I was 12-13 unwittingly by my dad, who heard about it from a friend at work. He never saw the addiction coming haha.

2. Not really, i'm hardly focused enough to reach cap in one game, let alone two. I tend to switch back and forth a lot though.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

Everquest, way back in the day. I still have fond memories of grinding with a full group of close friends at ungodly hours of the night in places like Southern Ro, Kaesora, and Highpass Keep.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

More than a few times. I beta tested Lineage 2, World of Warcraft, and a few others. As a beta tester there was no subscription fee, so I tended to have an active acount on a previous MMORPG while beta testing. When the game went retail I would end my subscription with the previous game and play only the MMORPG I previously had Beta tested.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?<br>
first one i picked up was EQ in 1999. or was it '98? i remember lines for camping barbarian guards in east karanas and fear and hate didnt exist yet.. so.. a long time ago =)
2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?<br>

no, i have had to be very strict about it. i swapped subscriptions around alot during the time when i played city of heroes and pvp came out (because pve ruleset got totally hosed to allow pvp to function.. wtg not testing pvp at the beginning!) and i tend to beta test alot of games, and sometimes will pick up what i tested and play it live for a while.

1. what was the first MMORPG you ever played?
EQ Started about #Nov 2000

2.Have you ever playedmore than one MMORPG at a time?
Ive had monthly subscritpions overlap but once I move on I dont tend to log back onto an old game even if I have got 2/3 weeks paid play left.
I have Guild Wars which as its free I guess I can log in anytime even though im subscribin to EQ again for the progression servers...but I doubt i will.

I started with Ultima Online. I have played more than one MMOG at the same time, though I've never managed to give both games my equal attention that way.

1. First MMO was Everquest (and still playing it).

2. Yes I have played more than 1 at a time. While playing EQ, I spent a while playing EQ 2. After I gave up on that I played WoW for a bit as well. Didn't play either of those for very long, but for a bit. Also mixed in I have down beta on several games and went through those while still playing EQ.

1. Ultima Online, I played muds mushs and moo's and all that text based stuff before that but I cant find any of them that I used to play. Many were based off the Wheel of Time series though...

2. I almost always am fully playing one full time, and having a second one to tool around with. If I get into a beta I usually give the beta the priority to be fair and help test and make them better for everyone else.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

The First MMORPG I ever played was a text based MMO only for AOL members. It was called "Terris" and was pretty fun. Then later it became available to everyone and they started charging for it, but at the time it was pretty awesome... its where i learned to type!
Now if you're not talking text based... the first I played would be Everquest (1), which also happens to still reign champion in my eyes! I played Tallon Zek PvP server, and would love to have the same sense of community all over agian.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

Yes I have. I've actually played EQ1, WoW, and Guild Wars at the same time. And everytime I quit an MMO, i'd start phasing in a new one before i quit the old one (as to make sure I keep feeding the addiction!) However for the most part, I generally like to stick to ONE MMO at a time. Its just lately all these MMO's have been one year wonders so there's been a lot of mixing them trying to stay somewhat entertained.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?
Everquest was my first MMORPG. Created first toon in March 2001.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?
When DAoC came out, I tried to play it and EQ at the same time. After a while, I quit EQ and played DAoC. I eventually went back to EQ. Then I tried Shadowbane while playing EQ. Did not take long at all to go back to EQ. I also tried SW:G and EQ at the same time. Again, was not a hard decision to go back to EQ. I did CoH (beta and live) for a while, then moved on to WoW (beta and live) while playing CoH. I dropped both WoW and CoH for DDO and AutoAssault. Now I have come full circle and back to EQ exclusively.

1. Ultima Online was my first mmorpg experience, I was really noob at and didnt last very long before I gave up and let my friend take over. I really dove into EQ although. Those were my haydays in the rpg worlds.

2. Ive never played 2 at the same time, but i have had active accts going on DAOC and EQ, and EQ/WOW

1. The first mmorpg that I have played was EQ2. I know I'm new to the mmo community, but I have been gaming for as long as I can remember.

2. I haven't played two mmo's at the same time unless you count that I played the 10-day free trial of wow and have EQ2. I didn't really play wow that much. I don't really have the time to play to mmo's at the same time.

- Everquest for about a month or so, didnt get to into it as Everquest 2 came out soon after and went into that.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

- If I do, its because im trying to find a better one because ive maxed out what I can do.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

Everquest - started in around May 1999.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

No, but after playing only EQ for the first 5 or so years, I've been through a period recently where I interchanged between a few quite rapidly after finally giving up EQ - mainly WoW and EQ2. I guess this was because neither could really hold my interest like EQ did!

1- UO was my first experience to online games. I did not play it very long only about 2 months then had to stop because of college. Years later I got into EQ1 and played that for years so I really consider EQ1 my first one
2- Yes I continue to do so now. I have the main one I am playing at the time. But I always play EQ1 because I have friends that will not leave the game. Since they are across the ocean it is a good way to get together, chat, have fun and just spend time catching up on things.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?
My first was Everquest. I started when there were no expansions and played it well into the Ykesha expansion.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?
When DAoC came out I played it for maybe a month, but it didn't capture my interest the way Everquest did so I stopped.

I remember being so immersed into the Everquest...just starting out in Kelethin I had my adrenaline pumping when I decided to see what was out there and ventured into Crushbone at level 5...and quickly died and vowed to never return :-D I thought the game was so cool and I had only been in two zones...I loved to go exploring.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

First MMORPG ever <played> was WoW...even though it was an MMO which I actually <played> (due to several reasons prior to WoW I didn't have the opportunity to really dwelve in an online game) I must say that after some time its 'limitations' become obvious. Its simplicity however is great for unexperienced players (not specific to MMOs) and offers a great and enjoyable experience from 1 to 59 :p

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

Nope and never will...When I play a game, unless it is a very basic one to pass some time, i focus most of my available free time on it and try out many aspects of the possibilities offered...

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

First MMO I ever played was definitely EverQuest. At the time I had no idea what it was but I got it at a birthday present and decided to try it out. Oddly enough, I didnt get into it right away until checking it out again a few months later when I became addicted.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time? Yes. Whenever something new came out while I played EQ, I'd maintain my EQ sub and keep raiding with my guild while checking out whatever was new, be it DAoC, SWG, WoW, whatever.

What was the first MMO you ever played?

I always had trouble playing MMOs because I didn't have a credit card, but the first time I managed to weedle one out of my parents was Ultima Online, followed soon by FF11 and City of Heroes.

Have you played more then one at the same time?

Not usually, but I was poking Matrix Online while still subscribing to City of Heroes

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

Everquest was probably the first MMORPG I played, starting at release. Online wise, MajorMUD would be the first one I was every fully engrossed into. I would even call the level grind in MajorMUD to be worse than that of EQ. I scripted my characters xping 24/7 and it would still take days to level a character (upwards of a week or so for the 20 or higher.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

Yes, I have. Played Anarchy Online while playing Everquest as well as playing Eve while playing EQ2. This day and age though it's hard finding time to play just one game.

1. My 1st MMO would have to be EQ, just after I had stopped playing DnD.

1. My first MMO was Asheron's Call 1 and it is also my favorite. No game that I have played since AC has been able to match the experience I hard there. The community was awesome and the PvP was great. 3 years filled with good times.

2. I am a 1 MMO at a time type of person. I don't really like paying 2 monthly fees, especially when I am spending more time on one game, than the other.

1) I played MUDs too numerous to count in college. The first Massively Multiplayer game was Subspace, starting with very early beta. That lead into beta for EQ. I have played many since then but only EQ has held my interest to this day.
2) I have played several at one time, only EQ remained constant.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

I played Everquest 1 from around Velious era until Gates of Discord time. Great game in its time.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

I usually try and keep my MMO limit to 1 game at a time. It helps me when I get into the "ho-hum" phase of one game then I can just load up another game and resubscribe to that etc. I think I have a case of MMO-ADD. :rofl

Good Luck everyone!

1. I can still remember my cousin showing me videos of Dark Age of Camelot and being amazed by them. Never have I seen a game where you and bunch of other people played at the same time and better yet it was set in fantasy times with different races and magic! It was the first MMORPG that I ever played and still to this date my favorite of them all.

2. I have indeed. Sometimes I will play the free MMO's along with a pay to play one. A few times I even played two pay to play MMO's at the same time. Those were some fun times.

1) First MMOG - Star Wars Galaxies

and if my personal hygiene didn't slip enough with that, two years of EQ2 followed.

2) Playing more than one MMO at once? That's what I call multitasking

For a period I was playing both EQ2 and EVE online

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

The first MMO I ever played was EQ. I started about 2 weeks after launch and I've been involved in one or another since then. If you go back before that, I used to play and run MUDs back when I was in college.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

I'm usually only involved with 1 at a time, but at times when I'm in between games, I'm usually involved in all of the beta programs I can get into. I enjoy seeing what's out there and giving ideas back to the devs.

Thanks again for the chance at a beta slot Sigil and The SafeHouse.

1. My first MMORPG... was... FFXI :ontome

2. I once played FFXI, CoH, and WoW all at one time. But keep this in mind, I was just getting ready to quit FFXI, crafting like crazy to get my linkshell (guild) some really good bank money, and to help the lowbies and good friends. I was also quitting CoH, or pondering it because all I really did was create new guys because it was so fun, but then once I hit 34 on my dark scrapper I found it really useless and I felt no accomplishment from playing. And all at that time I felt lovely playing WoW. I loved PvP and in the matches I felt some accomplishment, but then I got to end game and didn't really feel it. I still miss raping on my 60 Ele Shaman, oh baby those chain lightnings destroyed those gnomes!! So all ye gnomes beware of me!

I can only hope Vanguard gives some PvP in PvE servers, like a Guild Wars kinda thing, so it's team work and not just FFA.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

A. The First true MMO I played was Everquest back right after they launched. I was over my cousin's house and he was like "Check this out!" I went into his room and on this screen was a HUGE barbarian looking thing on the middle of the screen. When he would cast a spell these sounds were so life-like. I just stood in awe of this "so called game" for more then 2 hours before I realized my lunch had long since been over. Within 2 days I had bought a new PC and the game to play it. I have been an MMO'er ever since.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

A. Yes. At one time I had an EQ (Mistole-Solusek Ro), EQII (Mistole), WoW (Sirrloinn-Bloodhoof), CoH/CoV (Malavolence), GW (Methias), and DAoC (Mistole) account active at one time. I was just starting messing around with WoW and trying to get my friends into it. I was playing with some of the w00tradio folks on CoH, I had friends from EQ that were playing both eq1 and trying 2 out and I had just finished playing DAoC with the same friends that went back to EQ / EQII and I had just bought GW as it was "free from monthly subscriptions."

I did play FFIX but I was unable to get past the UI and at the time of launch I was unable to get any friends to join in on so that was very short lived.

I am a huge fan of MMOs in general as the community they build and the friends I have made over the years have made every game I have played WELL worth every single dollar and minute spent.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

Yes, SWG and WoW when WoW first came out. But I somehow found time for both of them.

Everquest was the first one I ever played starting in 2001. I have taken breaks to play both SWG and EQ2 for a few months when they first came out.

I didn't really have the time to play more than one at a time.

2. Absolutely. Though not currently, as I'm eagerly anticipating VG...

PS: I will donate my left lung to science for a beta invite...assuming I'm still able to play...

The first MMORGP I ever played was Everquest. That was the first and last greatest long term game I've played. That lasted me about 3 years and I haven't found an experience like it yet. Hopefully Vanguard will supply the vastness I seek in a game.

No, I've never tried playing two MMORPG's at one time, I'm quite dedicated to a single game that holds my interest.

1) Does Diablo count as an MMO? Pretty sure it does, just not 3rd Generation. Anyway, I played Diablo FOREVER, very fond memories. :) I played EQ for a while but got distracted by school work and didn't really have the time to put into it. Now I play WoW, though, sadly, I'm beginning to tire of it. :(

2) I don't think I've ever played 2 at once. I tend to give up on one and move on to another. I do the same thing with console RPG. In fact, I refuse to play more than one console RPG at a time because I want to be able to dedicate myself completely, and you can't do that if you're splitting your time. Play one, beat it, move on.

1. I played a great MUD named "Gemstone III" on AOL before they started charging for games. I also played Ultima Online sometime after that. But I consider Everquest to be the first real MMORPG I played. It definetly changed the way I look at games in general.

2. Currently I'm subscribed to WoW and City of Heroes. I'm just barley clinging on to them though...Vanguard is looking incredibly sweet to me.

The first MMO I ever played was The Realm Online. *shifty eyes* I heard about it while playing Diablo and played it for years.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

I've tried it a few times but it's too much. Often times the controls would be too difficult to switch between, but usually it was just for a lack of time. I like to focus on one game.

The first I've ever played is Anarchy Online. I actually only downloaded the trial because SWG was coming out fairly soon and I had never played an MMO before. I was trying to get the lingo down and learn more about them.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

When WoW got a bit stale, a few friends and I went over to EvE just to check it out. I was playing WoW and EvE back and forth for a few months.

Oh boy, I am going to date myself seriously here - but my first mmorpg (and this is a stretch by today's standards) were the MUD's usually via BBS and occasionally through sprint telenet, or the odd university network (I can hear the younger generation or two going what the hell is sprint telenet). And for those who are asking yes I thought my 1200baud modem was the hottest thing and even better it was not an acoustic coupler type.

Other than that after a brief stint in college, I hooked up to ultima online. I think I had proper dial-up internet by that time somehow routed through my *nix box at a screaming 28.8k or was is 56k - probably 28.8 since the 56k modems were still pricey little units. But I digress.

Ultima online was great erm, at least it was better than that sierra mmo game thing and honestly the graphics were just well pretty cool - even on my brand new k6-233. (That cost a small fortune.) and my $500 screaming video card made by some company called Matrox with a whopping 4MB of video ram. Real museum quality stuff.

Who are you calling old? And to tell the truth I am not all so sure of the timeline - I just remember that at 12 or so I thought my commodore vic-20 was the hottest thing and then I got an 8088 based machine and after that it all seems to blur together - now where the hell did I put that old 386sx-25 machine, I seem to remember that Microsoft said you could run Windows NT server on it.

2 MMORPG's??? Who are you kidding? Its just not possible unless one of the following is true:

a) you are in university and grades are not an object or
b) your not out of elementary/secondary school yet and college is not an object or
c) you are independently wealthy and extremely bored or
d) you really want to pay SOE an extra $10/month to occasionally go raid the planes of fear in EQ1 because your old guild mates still think EQ1 is really really cool or

last but not least you cant read this post because it is in English and the $.04an hour you are getting to farm gold/plat/credits/leaves or whatever currency in the latest MMO is much much better and more profitable than anything else you might be doing.

Cheers everyone ! :cth

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?
I started with Ultima Online in '98. It was a great game before EA took over. I have sinced played EverQuest, EQ II, UO under EA, Dark Age of Camelot, Star Wars Galaxies, Anarchy Online, Asheron's Call, AC II, Horizons, Guild Wars, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach, Lineage II, and World of Warcraft. I spent the most time in UO pre-EA and Dark Age of Camelot. I really enjoyed L2, but the botters killed it. *sad face*

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?
No. I've considered it, but when I play an MMO, I generally aim to do things right. I'd rather not spread my time between two different games.

I'm really looking forward to Vanguard. It seems like Sigil is doing things right and is learning from previous successes and failures of other developers. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

1. What was my first MMORPG?

Lets see, it goes back into my everquest days. I was shown the game by a friend shortly after the kunark expansion. Needless to say I was hooked on the game right away, and played for 3 or 4 years, I can't really remember now.

2. Have I ever played 2 mmorpgs at the same time?

Nope can't say I have, I tend to focus all of my attention on one game at a time until I have beaten it. Since you can't really beat mmorpg's I normally just play that one game until I end up getting bored and quit. Then I wait around for the next game to come along that looks like I might enjoy it. Vanguard that is.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

I played Dark Age of Camelot extensively for three or four years after looking for something to replace Diablo 2.

I had purchased a copy of the original EverQuest with the same intentions several months earlier, but I wasn't ready to pay to a monthly subsciption fee to play at the time. So I gave my copy of that away to a friend.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

During my DAoC stint, I branched out and tried Star Wars Galaxies, Lineage 2, and World of Warcraft. I eventually moved to World of Warcraft full time, but have relapsed and tried DAoC again for a short while, as well as the EverQuest 2 trial and Guild Wars.

I'm currently looking forward to Vanguard being my new DAoC. So much so, that I will most likely pick up a preorder for Vanguard over The Burning Crusade expansion pack. Only thing keeping me in WoW at this point is a group of MMO friends who all plan to try out Vanguard, which I'm thankful for!

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?
1. The first MMORPG I ever played was Ultima Online. In the end it was a short and not very rewarding experience due to game mechanics. Hours of trying to do 'spirit speak' just because you wanted to be a better mage - and don't even get me started on max stats and skills. My internet connection also played a role... lag galore.

But the MMO I really played was WoW. Really great guild full of friendly folk - we even had RL meetings that were *gasp* enjoyable. A few months ago I quit, because the end game required (according to myself) too much time to see only a fairly small portion of the game. Now I'm waiting for something new and VG monks wetted my apetite. Also looking forward to Warhammer Online - I really like the warhammer universe.

2. Short story: no. Unless you count the EVE online trial I did when my WoW account was still active, while looking for something new.

1) Asheron's Call. I have extremely fond memories of it, and it had a lot of the same features (even back in 99) as Vanguard will have. Seamless HUGE world, Corpse runs could be done with a second set of armor, housing (eventually), huge number of quests, etc. Vanguard looks like a superset of what AC2 SHOULD have been.

2) I always seem to be subscribed to 2 MMORPGs at once (or else in Closed Beta on one, and subscribed to another). A long while after I started AC, friends at work started EQ1, so I joined them while still playing AC. Eventually after I stopped AC (3+ years), and subscribed to many other MMORPGs. Tried to get in all the Open Betas so I could see if it was worth the subscription price. Sometimes I only played the first month, then went back a few months later after all the bugs were worked out. Sometimes I played many months (up to a couple years) after launch. I have played AC, EQ, EQ II, DAoC, SW:G, AO, AC II, Horizons (bleh!), Guild Wars, City of Heroes, DDO, Lineage II, WoW (edit: lol I forgot - add EvE and E&B to the list - currently splitting time between EQ2 and WoW). I have Closed Beta tested 2 of these, and I mean actually 'tested', not just played :) It takes real work and commitment to do it right, but is still really fun!

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

That all depends on your definition of what an MMORPG is, im sure there are a ton of us that started our online days playing MUD's for hours on end (I know I did), or games like Diablo, D2, which have the feel of an RPG with player progression, levels, etc.

But yes, I started playing "MMORPG's" with EQ in 2000.

My first mmo was ultima online. Those were such simple times, but they were the greatest. I left at about the time that the world split to pvp/nonpvp. Not that I pvp'd all that much but it seemed to lose something, and anyway there were new games coming out at about that time. The only time I ever play more than one mmo at a time is when Im getting tired of one and starting to want to move on.

1. Anarchy Online was my first mmo and I still compare all others to it.

2. I usually have 2 subscriptions running even if I'm just waiting out the time on one. I find that having 2 will extend the time it takes to get burned out on a game. If one gets boring or tedious just switch to the other and play something new for a while. It's the same theory behind altitis ;)

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

The MUD Gemstone III, when it was availible without cost on AOL 4.2.

Yes, but usually only during transitory times when I become bored with one game and begin searching for another.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

--EverQuest: My boss was in beta and would never stop talking about it. I finally gave in, and still continue to play this day.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

--Yes: I was so hell bent in trying World of Warcraft when it first came out. But the storyline of EverQuest 2 was just so intriguing, and lore is a big part of why I enjoy the current EQ, that I passed on WoW and started to play EQ2. I eventually did try WoW, but I always come back to EQ. Vanguard looks like the next big thing. I am hoping it can continue the trend of excellent story telling and impressive visuals.

The first MMO i ever played was everquest 1 (honestly it was one of the best games, in my opinion even today it is better than WoW.)
2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?
Yes currently i am paying fr CoH/CoV, Guild Wars(even though it has no monthly subs.), SWG. I used to play daoc as well. And to answer the question the other way i was multi tasking daoc and coh at once. :rofl

1. The first MMORPG I played was a game called The Realm which was then owned by Sierra. Back in those days it was the funnest game anyone could play... but as time went on them game slowly sank. Since then, which was back in 95/96, I've played all the games in one form or another. In no order: EverQuest, EverQuest 2, Star Wars Galaxies, Anarchy Online, Ultima Online, Dragon Empires(didn't make it past Beta 0.5), Earth and Beyond and more that I'm sure to be forgetting.

2. For many years I've played nurmous MMORPG's at a time... usually only 2 at a time though. The years have taken a toll on me though and now I don't play much of anything. Hopefully Vanguard will change that ;)

Nice to see some fellow ex-Anarchy Online players about, I beta tested and helped out with the strategy guide for that one :)

My first MMORPG was Mankind however back in 1998 or 99. Kind of like EVE I guess but nowhere near as beautiful. Since then I've played AO, SWG, WoW, Matrix Online and RF Online - funny really because now I look at this list it's pretty sci-fi orientated...

I don't think I've played more than one MMORPG at a time other than beta tests. That list is long though - (in no order) AO, Eve, Wish, RF Online, Dark and Light, Neocron, WoW, Seed, Guild Wars and probably a couple more. I was busy (happy) elsewhere so I didn't play or apply for EQ, EQ2, DAOC etc but I've been without game for too long now and can't wait for Vanguard. It has everything ticked for me - the Rogue class :backstab, player housing, depth and I hope a whole bunch of new friends :) I am really looking forward to the diplomacy sphere - sounds intriguing for sure.

Best regards, M.

2. I played DAoC,EQ,Eve Online, World Of Warcraft, Guild Wars, and Everquest 2 all while i was playing everquest. I currently am in the beta for the new Lord of the Rings game too.

Well I started way back when, Aol had Neverwinter Nights to play. Limited of 500 people for the entire server. Played a Palm ( Paladin/ Mage)

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?
I Played quite alot of MMORPG at a time, I was Beta in EQ 1, EQ 2, DoAC, UO, I beta tested alot of others as well. But mostly I stuck to EQ 1 and The Realm. I figured more then that would be a hassle.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

My first MMO was Everquest when it first came out, around 1998 I believe. I have many fond memories of that time. It was a time before powergamers, before arguments about 'camps' or 'spawns'. No one was powerleveling, they were all simply adventuring.

I started out as a Wood Elf Ranger in the city built in the treetops, Kelethin. The city was packed at this time, there must have been atleast 10 people looking for their corpse under the city at any given time. This was because people often fell off the city in the trees, which found it rather funny to not include railings on most parts of the city. The falling deathrate was further increased after more people discovered the effects of Elven Wine from the tavern (in EQ the more alcohol you drank, the blurrier your screen got and swayed when you walked, was very hard to walk from platform to platform in Kelethin in such a state without falling off).

People didn't know where any spawns or camps or the like were so when it became night, many stopped hunting orc and went back to Kelethin and sat around the torches at the lifts and told stories about what they had seen or done or traded items. Then when morning came they all rushed back out in the neverending fight of collecting every Crushbone Belt in existence. I remember one of those nights someone telling people how they had travelled to the city of Dwarves on the regular trips to turn in Crushbone Belts but made a wrong turn and ended up at the ocean with a dock and a large ship. He got on the ship to look around and it wisked him off on a sea voyage and he eventually ended up in a city of humans named 'Freeport'. Most people wanted to visit this exotic city, and so a large group of us made our way there with this travelling story teller as our guide. Of course we knew about Freeport and could have simply created a new human character to see the city but I'm not sure any of us would have been too keen on the idea of logging out for even 5 minutes time.

I think most everyone who played a good deal at the first release of the first Everquest had similar experiences and people cannot easily duplicate ones first experiences in a vast MMORPG.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

I have often played more than one at a time. As for active subscriptions, I had an active subscription to EQ at the same time as EQII and at one point had those two subscription payments plus a third for the MMOFPS Neocron. After I got hooked on EQII, I cancelled EQ and Neocron but eventually found myself splitting time between EQII and the beta for the MMORPG/FPS Face of Mankind when it first came out.

Now however, I have 0 subscriptions to any MMO and am wasting my time while I wait for Vanguard open beta to begin, having already pre-ordered.

Everquest: Ruins of Kunark

Really interesting mix of answers. There are more folks who started with a sci-fi MMORPG (and who are interested in Vanguard) than I would have thought.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

Well, the first MMORPG was FFXI. I was on that for about 220 playtime days. I still go back to bs with the linkshell mates occasionally :smile

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

I've been up to three at once but for a short time. Depending on the events going on in one game, i'll pull up another and spend my time on there until the event in the other takes place. A common example would be waiting for a raid on WoW while i take care of some other things on FFXI. Or if i'm waiting on a raid time on Wow or waiting for a timed NM to pop on FFXI, I'll window them and pull up Phantasy Star Universe or iRO (not all three since WoW hogs all the video).

I'm hoping that Vanguard will be the new MMORPG that outdoes all the others with gameplay and visuals so I'm taking a break from all mmorpgs until release. I've played a few betas before so I'll be sure to give some good feedback if chosen.

The first MMO I played was EQ... I sneaked onto my dad's account when he wasn't home. I played several other MMOs on under my father's account, but my first account was EvE online.

1) I started playing EQ in 2003. It still has something about it that no other MMO has managed to capture. The world feels big. I recently went back to it after trying... well a lot of other games.

2) I played EQ2 and SGW at the same time for quite a while. Generally though I will tend to switch back and forth between games instead of playing them at the same time.

1. The first MMO I played was Everquest, and it was amazing. I started in June 1999 and played until 2003 with a short break to try DAOC and a couple other games, but no others came close to being as immersive as EQ. Sometimes after big raids, I would even dream Everquest. Since then I've tried WoW and EQ2 and neither came close to EQ, but I hope Vanguard will.

2. I have only played two MMOs at once when I was thinking about quitting EQ2 and going back to EQ1, but it didn't last long.

Played a Zmud game called Threshold.. if that counts for anything.. but if not
Ultima Online then was my first if the other game was not classified as a MMORPG..

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?
Yes
Played and paid for Threshold MMORPG, and at same time Ultima Online then came out and purchased 2 copies and had that running at same time, there i moved into Dark ages of camelot, ran that for 1 year with the three accounts running, soon after dropped Threshold, and Everquest then came out, Dropped Daoc, and ran UO, and EQ 4 accounts total between the two games. and there after about 2 years later, dropped UO went all EQ,

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

Everquest was the first mmo that I played and was the one that I played for the longest amount of time. Joined when kunark was released and stayed for just over four years.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

Sadly yes, I have played more than one MMo at a time, mostly because I got into beta's or new ones came out that friends wanted to try out. So lets see... While I was playing everquest I also purchased Dark Age of Camelot and played for a couple weeks out of the free month while I was still raiding in EQ but got bored of it. I also did the same with Final Fantasy XI but stayed for two months instead of one while continuing to play EQ. Somewhere around there I also played in the Lineage II beta which didn't much impress me and the City of Hero's Beta.

Near the end of the four years I also got into the World of Warcraft Beta and have pretty much been playing that ever since. Although I did play a few other games during WoW, including Everquest (progression server), Everquest 2, EVE online, Ragnarok Online, and Maple Story; but none of them held me for long and I have even been kind of tired of WoW and just been looking at fansites for new MMo's coming out and not playing much. Although in every game that I played I always ended up picking the most Roguely class ^_^ and If i get into the Vanguard Beta a rogue will also be my first character.

First mmorpg for me was Asheron's Call 1. Loved the freedom in that game, and am looking for to the similar type of world in Vanguard.

The first MMORPG I every played was UO... It was amazing... working your way up in skill, seeing the first Master Swordsman and then obtaining the title myself. Seeing 50 different Drizzt's on my server and fighting to maintain my reputation. Being slaughtered by PK's in a dungeon and then 2 months later after working my toon to be able to stand there and fight back to finally hunting PK's with my guild and beating them... it was priceless...

I've never really played more than one MMORPG at one time... with work and life, I just don't have the time to devote between 2 games. The immersion that I feel is required to play effectively forces me to focus my attentions on one game. I have tried many though... UO, EQ, EQ2, WoW, Eve, CoH, AC1, and I can't remember the one that was cancelled... really liked that game... spaceships like Eve... just different. :P

I got my start playing Horizons. The main reason (seeing as I am a mom and most mom's do not play these types of games) was to stay in touch with my college kids. I then moved on to EQ2 and WoW and now I find that even tho my boys do not play as much anymore, I do still play rofl I plan to play VanGuard and to bring my sons along. I usually end up becoming the guild "mom" in these games and enjoy being one of the very few Mom's who play the games.

1. My first MMORPG was actually a text based game, called Dragonrealms. I was suprised at how much fun a texted based game can be. There are some really neat ideas in those games that the 'visual' games could use.

The first MMO I've ever played was Final Fantasy XI, it was a fantastic game, I loved it. But what got annoying about it was the de-leveling if you die right after you level up. Also what was annoying was trying to cap your summoning skill.
At a single time, I only played one MMO. But in my life time, I played two MMO's, World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XI.

The beta for Ultima Online was the first official MMO I played. I guess you would call it the "Golden age". I remember talking with developers at the Scarbourough faire for their UO picnic the first year.. amazing how long ago that seems now.

DAOC and EQ2, EQ2 and WOW, EQ2 and CoH, some I moved on.. some were momentary distractions.

As for the first question, the first MMORPG I ever played was the original Everquest... It's funny, I remember watching a friend play it for months and I thought it looked so lame. But little by little it drew me in. He began to tell me about the lore, about his class (druid), about the other classes and Norrath in general. I became enamored with it little by little. And soon enough, I made my first character, a High Elf Wizard. The nick name evercrack proved true, and from late '99 until Dragons of Norrath was released I was an EQ addict.

As for the second question: In the waning days of EQ (in my opinion at least), just after Gates of Dischord, or was it Omens of War? Anyway... I beta tested WoW, Lineage 2 and EQ2. I was actually playing all of them when they went live, and eventually it was WoW that pulled me away from the others. It was a crazy balacing act... was hard to keep my characters straight for a while there.

Yes, I have been playing WOW since it came out. It was a welcome change from AC2. I have done trials of EQ2, Guild Wars, LOTR, COH. I purchased but then quit my account of EVE and COV. I have been really excited about Vanguard and am hoping it will finally be a game good enough to take me from the tedium of Wow.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?
Neverwinter Nights (the old 16-color AOL game, not that new 3D one which claims the same name).

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?
I have 1 "social mmorpg" that I'm on a lot, regardless of which real mmorpg I play. So in that way 2 at once is normal for me. The social one is, when it comes down to it though, a 2D game that's basically a glorified chat room, where player's can create their own maps and write scripts to run them. No hp, no items, no exp.

The questions for this thread are:
1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

The first MMORPG addiction was with Everquest. I played EQ for approximately 2 and a half years before giving it up to focus on my college studies. Occasionally I would drop in to send regards to some fellow guildies before eventually leaving permanently for World of Warcraft after helping beta that game.

Now I just have to look out for that dreaded wife aggro.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?

Yes. I generally begin to tire of an MMORPG if the end-game doesn't evolve at a pace I enjoy. I've played DAoC, City of Heroes, Everquest 2, and most consistently WoW. Many of those were at the same time, generally 2 or 3 subscriptions at once before I widdle it back down to a single game. With the upcoming WoW expansion I am beginning to look at jumping ship. The new end-game environment just doesn't appeal to me with raid sizes of 25. I am a strong advocate of the zerg.

Peace.

My first MMO was EQ.

I don't know that I ever played 2 *at the same time* but I went back to EQ several times after leaving, never cancelling my account. Played DAoC for a few months, then played EQ2 for a few months, before finally giving up on EQ forever...

Kingdom of Drakkar was my first, I played the beta on msn, then followed it through several moves. My son got me to try UO and I slowly played less Drakkar and more UO.
I was a monster in Drakkar (for the time I played at least:)), and it was my first , so I hated to leave, but UO was a whole new world with brand new set of rules and it finally won me over.

My first MMORPG was Nexus: TK. I believe it was one of the first MMORPGs ever to be released actually. That was back in 1999. Technically before that I played a text based RPG on AOL called Dragon's Gate, which Mythic bought out afterwards.

I have played multiple MMORPGS at one time, through the years it's been Nexus: TK, Dark Ages, EQ, DaoC, Asheron's Call, EQ2, WoW, Ultima Online, CoH/V, FFXI, Diablo 2, and probably many many others I'm forgetting. Good times...

1. DAoC was my first game. Enjoyed it very much.

2. Played DAoC and Guild Wars at the same time for a while, but I usually focus on one game at the time.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played? EverQuest would have to be the first... though if MUDs count then long before.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?
Heck yeah.. CoH, EQ, EQ2.. even had two instances of EQ2 running on my machine at once while I was beta testing an expansion and playing live.

Huh... just noticed that the question only asks if you play'd more than one MMO at a time...

makes me wonder if Dual-boxing counts (playing two toons on two comps simultaneously).

Done that before...more than a few times....as I'm sure many others here have.

Most I've ever seen is 5 toons on 5 comps by the same crazy guy (father of my old college roommate; roommate sure was proud of dear ole dad).

Anyone here beat that?

1. First MMORPG that I ever played was FFXI, I started with a few of my friends from highschool sports after our season was over, was a better way to keep in touch then aol and alot more fun :) Even after they stopped playing I was in love and played it for almost 3 years.

2. Yes I have played 2 MMO at the same time (literally). When I set up my dual monitor rig I used to have FFXI on one and WoW on the other while camping Named mobs and I would level on WoW between the spawn windows :rofl I continued to do that after I hit 60 and had to wait around in battleground queues. Its nearly impossible to keep it playable with eq2 so those are the only 2 games I have been able to run simultaniously haha

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?

I played SWG for a little bit. Didn't like it at all. Then I got into the early beta of WoW and I was hooked. Played WoW on and off since early beta until this fall when I quit for school related reasons. Now I've got some time to play again...

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?
No I have not.

1. What was the first MMORPG you ever played?
Diablo 2, and if that doesn't count, Star Wars Galaxies.

2. Have you ever played more than one MMORPG at a time?
No, I like to be the best I can be at one. Playing two would not be any fun for me.

1. Ultima Online.

2. Kind of. Generally when you get to that phase where the game has lost a lot of interest for you and you are trying out something else. From UO it was EQ, had to keep going back to refresh my UO house and stock my merchants. I suppose the one time i was playing 2 games at once was EQ + SWG. Had a Master Weaponsmith there pre-CU and had a shop to keep stocked. With SWGCrafters it was easy to watch for any good resource spawns and you could only make so much stuff to sell waiting for your factories to finish a batch. After the CU i think a lot of the interactivity between players started to fade to the point now where most crafters are almost dormant and most servers since the NGE :angry

1. Ultima Online, before Trammel (a non-pvp 2nd world for the little babies to run to) was added.

2. More then once. I played EQ1 and UO at one time. EQ2, and SWG at the same time. And also EQ2 and CoV at the same time. Might have missed a few times where I have played two seperate MMO's seeing as I have tried out 13 different ones. But I stuck with the EQ titles the most.
