View Full Version : Just a little whetting of the appetite
I have many pics using many settings, but I figured I'd start off with a few shots including characters, and end it with a panorama shot.
First image is in Sheng Village. I really like this area; it draws you into the world nicely. In this newbie area (which in reality is more of an 'introduction area' since you'll get to level 2 but that's about it) you're the bad guy, killing villagers in the name of the emperor. After completing a few quests you go to kill a monk, but he gives you the opportunity for redemption - he transports you away to another island to start over again with a clean slate.
Second image is my dwarven rogue. I liked the earlier dwarven beards better than what exists now, but that's personal preference. Not too fond of the long, exaggerated beards. I really like the water in Vanguard; it's very well done.
Third image is my wood elf rogue. I think that's using 'Balanced' settings (there are five main settings, and 'Balanced' is in the middle) so the textures aren't quite as crisp as the first screenshot, but it still looks good.
Fourth shot is overlooking an area near Khal. The character in the shot is a monk.
For the last shot I had two monitors hooked up so it's a panorama view of the sun setting over Khal.
They all look good to me, Ruccus, thanks for posting them.
The sky in that last wide panorama shot looks like a painting, imo.

just from above, or the "inside" too? meaning..how is it once you are underwater?
and thanks for the nice screenies ;)

I've heard people complaining about swiming on the surface, but that's probably the single hardest thing to accurately do (when you're out of water have the 'air' clipping plane and under water have the 'water' clipping plane) so I don't find any problem with it. You can probably work it so the camera is above water but it's still using the underwater clipping plane, but altering the camera angle should fix it.
The only complaint is that the 'breathing' bar (signifying you're holding your breath underwater) pops up a bit too close to the surface. I'll be swiming along the surface and duck down just a tiny amount and the bar will pop up. I found an older screenshot I took while underwater to show what it looks like swiming underwater.
The other shots are of harvesting cotton, and a fight against a couple mobs.
uh..i have to update my brothers video drivers i guess.
my brothers water looks totally different once you are under it.

That's pretty normal for the UI
Here's a gui shot from my wood elf rogue:
Edit: That screenshot looks lonely, so here are a couple more to keep it company :b. All the screenshots below are using 'balanced' plus bloom (which adds the glow seen on the bridge shot).

By the way guys, the UI is completely customizable. All you have to do is go to settings and the click the interace tab. Once there you check the layout feature and you can move any aspect of the UI feature to fit your preference and style. It took me a bit to figure this out, (and i think many still haven't) but it is a nice bit of information for those of you that like a different layout.

Yup, there's a setting which allows you to drag and drop the boxes anywhere, but the default GUI is perfectly acceptable in my opinion.
You can also customize your GUI visually, and I'm sure others who wanted a unique look will post theirs eventually.

Heres A screeen shot from my list of tons of them.
Saw this guy at the entrance to Riftseekers in Thestra, thought it was quite funny.
they've never quite gotten a handle on the title bug(s).
Here's a couple of random shots from my travails this evening. Lizards and Little Shop of Horrors... oh my!
:D
Edit Please note the FPS drop in the second pic was due to the fact that I hit the reloadUI option mid combat instead of screencap. /doofus.

Nocte... give UI.... NAUW! (please?)
:lol It will be available as soon as I finish it. I need to do the offensive target, group, and anti-group windows before its fit for the public. It's rogue only and I have a lot of "fine details" plans for it that will trickle out over time. The hotbar keys (18 count) to the left are for G15 keyboards and are mapped to the keys, though they could be used with a normal keyboard if mapped. This will be a 3 page window eventually for the M1-M3 banks of the G15.
The XML modding for this game is pretty simple if you've had a little experience with HTML/CSS. This is my first venture into it (modding).
I'm probably about a week out from completing it (barring family tearing me away from the machine).

i don't approve here.
what i miss for example:
-buffs debuffs on your target - how do i know that this guy in my group got the right buff etc.
-level of target - u only see that via mouseover tooltip. multiple enemies..which one to atk first...pvp...ignore that one? take the other one out first?
-numeric values (hp, mana,..)- especially for healers this one would be nice
well, i have to admit, that im a little spoiled from the features you gain for ur interface in wow-addons, but still, there should be more in vsoh imho. especially those things mentioned above.
Those are all available through modding. Granted, it's not in the default UI, but there is very little the devs are hiding in the way of numbers. The game reporting variables are all in place. Heck, there's even a built in DPS meter for auto attack based on gear.
If you look at the bottom of my interface, you can see my stat layouts. I hate opening a bajillion windows to see my buffed strength... now I just glance at the bottom of the screen.
The buff windows have been modded already in several ways that list them by icon and name a la EQ.
Edit: And the mod community is very much active already from minimalist to creative. Most I believe are hanging out here (http://www.vgsohinterface.com) post closed-beta.

All that is available with a customized UI. Im running version 2 of the Drox UI (sorry no pictures here at work). Right underneath my enemy target (with level, con, and dot-difficulty) I have all weaknesses active on that mob portrayed. Right next to it, I can toggle on/off whether I want to see what effects are active on the mob as well.

My hero! Now will it be posible to switch banks in-game when you press the M1-M3 buttons? (Never messed with multiple banks and have few keys bound in WoW)
@nocte
thanks for the link!
@zanca
i commented on the default UI
I don't think the G15 allows for it. You can't macro script to the M keys to my knowledge. If you could, it would be a piece of cake. I intend just to have the typical arrow keys with three pages and you'll have to manually hit the desired M key.
Here are my two screenshots: 2nd one shows stealth.
BTW, running a p4 2.4ghz, 1gig ram and 256MB Radeon 9800 Pro. Have to go to lower settings or I chug along at less than 10fps. Prolly why I didn't enjoy beta all that much.
Anyhow, here are my screens:

Amazing ui! I haven't fooled at all with mods (barely even with the default interface options), though at level 5 there's nothing too complicated yet.... hehe, the joys of a new thing. As a sworn rogue (just gotta decide on the race) my wonderful G15 is crying out for your UI. I must track it down and try to find it once complete.
Additionally, I haven't fooled with keybindings at all - does Vanguard recognize the G-keys or do you have them macro'd to Ctrl + # or something similar? Although it's not a difficult problem to get around, it would be wonderful if the game recognized the actual keys.
Nocte... You better hurry up with that UI :) I'll be waiting!
And Kard, thanks a lot for helping me with that Rogue information earlier! Too bad my 6,000 word "Ranger Post O' Doom" post got scrapped when they wiped the beta boards the next day, haha. I should reposted it...
I would have liked to beta more, but unfortunately my experience was somewhat limited. I only had a real interest in the rogue class and tradeskills, both of which were broken whenever I tried. Rogues were broken (albeit in favor of them) due to a bug with one of their skills which would allow me to kill things insanely fast. Tradeskills were broken to the point that I couldn't even finish the tutorial quests.
This combined with an odd inability to access the beta forums and a low framerate made for an... interesting beta testing experience.
That said, I think the game has potential (despite the fact that I don't think it's ready for release quite yet), and yes... it has alot of WoW-like qualities, most prevalent in the UI and combat engine.
Oh... and I am now deathly afraid of big, cartoon rats.
Any rain or snow SS?
The rain one's kind of dark; it was the middle of the night when it was raining. In hindsight I probably should've turned on my torch to see if it lit the area a bit better.

Still not too bad. Altho the snow is kinda lame =/.
Thx!
Now any personal boat SS or Flying mount SS :P?

They're standard effects, nothing remarkable about them or bad about them. Snow is kind of hard to view as a screenshot because most of the effect of snow is how it falls, not what it looks like in one frame.
As for a flying mount or boat SS, sure.... as soon as Sigil gives me a boat or flying mount :b. I've been trying out many different characters and doing more exploring out from each of the cities than levelling up one character (I never really care too much about things like levelling up; I just have fun and when it happens it happens), so I don't have the uber levels needed for those things.
