Back in November YTV Canada, Inc. applied for an Anime based channel, and today the CRTC approved the application (http://www.crtc.gc.ca/archive/ENG/Decisions/2007/db2007-41.htm).

The conditions of the license are as follows:

1. The licence will be subject to the conditions set out in Introductory statement – Licensing of new digital pay and specialty services – Corrected Appendix 2, Public Notice CRTC 2000-171-1, 6 March 2001.

2. The licensee shall provide a national English-language Category 2 specialty programming service devoted to entertaining Canadian adults through the animated programming genre know as "anime" and anime-related programming. The programming shall be targeted exclusively to adults over the age of 18.

3. The programming shall be drawn exclusively from the following categories, as set out in item 6 of Schedule I to the Specialty Services Regulations, 1990, as amended from time to time:

2 (a) Analysis and interpretation
7 (a) Ongoing drama series
(b) Ongoing comedy series (sitcoms)
(c) Specials, mini-series or made-for-TV feature films
(d) Theatrical feature films aired on TV
(e) Animated television programs and films
(g) Other drama
11 General entertainment and human interest
12 Interstitials
13 Public service announcements
14 Infomercials, promotional and corporate videos

4. The licensee shall devote not less than 65% of the broadcast year to anime programs.

5. The licensee shall devote not more than 35% of the broadcast year to anime-related programs.

6. The licensee shall devote not less than 85% of the broadcast year to programming from categories 7(d), 7(e) and 7(g), with no more than 15% of the broadcast year dedicated to information based programs.

7. In order to ensure that the licensee complies at all times with the Direction to the CRTC (Ineligibility of non-Canadians), P.C. 1997-486, 8 April 1997, as amended by P.C. 1998-1268, 15 July 1998 (the Direction), the licensee shall file, for the Commission’s prior review, a copy of any programming supply agreement and/or licence trademark agreement it intends to enter into with a non-Canadian party.

For the purposes of the conditions of this licence, including condition of licence no. 1, broadcast day means the period of up to 18 consecutive hours, beginning each day not earlier than six o’clock in the morning and ending not later than one o’clock in the morning of the following day, as selected by the licensee, or any other period approved by the Commission.

I like that the license is for programs "targeted exclusively to adults over the age of 18". I guess I'm finally going to have to get a digital cable box.

I would be careful what you wish for when you say "Over the age of 18..."

I don't think it's going to be 'The Hentai Channel'.

They might have something like Mezzo Forte late at night, but considering YTV has aired/is airing Ghost in the Shell:SAC, Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist, Witch Hunter Robin, Eureka 7, Naruto, One Piece, and InuYasha and has had enough success with the Friday night format that it's applying for its own channel, I think it'll be much of the same.

Ahhh. I guess thats just an oddly phrased wording. B/c Bleach and Naruto aren't exactly 18+ focused.

Guess they just did it to save there buts for possible problems heh.

The channel programming is targeted towards adults, not that it can only show programs rated as '18 or older' (though it is free to do so if it fits the guidelines).

I'm enjoying Bleach (Naruto is growing on me, but I still don't see what's so special about it) and I'm well over 18. Sword fighting, demons, and blood (albeit black blood for soul reapers), what's not to like? Before most of the anime YTV airs on Friday night they have a disclaimer that states "This program is intended for an older youth audience. Viewer discretion is advised", so I think those types of programs are what they want to peel off onto their own channel.

Ah.

Well Naruto was good in its time. It kinda died off when it hit fillers. And by then a way better version of it came out....Bleach :P.

I dunno, I think when Naruto is "good" it's still better than Bleach. Cause when Naruto is good its awsome. It just hasn't been good for almost 2 years now.

Bleach is just constantly very good.

Soul Reaper blood is black btw?

YTV is currently at episode 65 where Souske fights Gaara in the tournament, so it's still in the first third of the series. I'm guessing it's in the meat of the plot for the time period, so I guess I've passed the first fillers and not yet into the second fillers.

As for Soul Reaper blood, I have a feeling it's to allow it to be shown on YTV (which is billed as a youth channel). Below are a few screencaps from Ichigo's first fight with Renji.

We do have anime channels. But most of em are geared for just the company titles not a wide range of titles.

Hmm maybe ill borrow a few of his books to learn the language and live the rest of my life as a hermit over on a small island in japan... okay Never mind my day dreaming got the best of me. but all i guess i can do is wait and see what the heck air's on the cable box and see if it is good for the time being

Aside from a couple episodes between one of the arcs, the fillers don't start till like episode 125ish, and they don't end till about 100 episodes later.

136 is the start of the first filler arc.
