Howdy, I'm pretty new to the pen and paper game but I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

I've played a few games of warhammer rpg and one game of call of cthulhu.. unfortunately my DM has moved to england..

I was just wondering what I needed to get started into this vast world.. and how I could find groups in my area (Vancouver, BC)

Or are there any places I could play this online? That would be cool also although i wouldn't know how that would work and such

Pen(cil), paper, and an imagination

What kind of games are you looking to play? Most RPG systems have some sort of Player's Handbook ... so for whatever game tickles your pickle, be sure to pick that up.

Finding games isn't too hard ... call up your local comic/gaming shops and just ask 'em if they run campaigns or know of anyone who does. 9 times out of 10 they'll put you on the right track. You can also see if the RPGA is having anything near you ... but with you up in BC, who knows. You can try posting in the RPGA Gamer Classifieds to see if anyone's in your area. Llabak would be better help with RPGA stuff though ... I don't know too much about it. There's always putting together your own gaming group ... course then you'd have to go outside (I hear there's bears out there!) and meet people

I still find the best resource for playing online is WebRPG. It's *somewhat* free. The host of the game will at least need to be subscribed and being a subsciber enables other features when using the RPG program.

Another suggestion would be to contact the Student Union at your local University and see if they have a student group devoted to gaming. Back in my school days at the University of Washington, it was the "Simulation Gaming Association", which did a lot of board/war games, and some RPGs.

Another option, since you're relatively close by, would be to check out/contact the Dragonflight/Metro Seattle Gamers organization, (www.dragonflight.org) which holds a gaming convention in Seattle every August, and maintains a brick/mortar location in the city to give gamers a place to play. They may well have some info on gamers in Vancouver that they can supply, or at least more suggestions on how to find em.

Vancouver Gaming Guild Yahoo chat

That would be the best place to start.

Also, check the RPGA calendar and set the filter to BC Canada. It looks like there's a TON of stuff going on in Victoria, which as I recall is about an hour and a ferry ride away? In 2 weeks there's a Living Arcanis convention over saturday/sunday - I highly reccommend the Arcanis world. Llabaktharr Gigglegiggler
