Who wins? :P
(Yes, I've been playing too many FPS's lately. /makes rude gesture towards aging collection.)
Personally, I think Doomguy is a direct descendant of Freeman, but that's me.
depends, what are we basing it on? what are the parameters of the test that we would base our opinion on?
I dunno, do you mean the Space Marine from Doom? That guy would stomp Freeman as he's got full military gear and training, and he potentially has the BFG9000 which would dominate Freeman from like 200 yards away.
Yes, we need more test parameters. In close quarters basic weapons, Space Marine might still win because he's got the chainsaw and Freeman's just got a friggin' crowbar. Without weapons? Who knows.
just for the record, in HL1, Freeman fought off hordes of marines (doom guys) and drove them to retreat... with no training.

Samus Aran.
He might of killed a bunch of marines, but did he kill a bunch of hellspawn?

Duke Nukem would take them both out. He's got balls of steel.
Is this thread a.. joke of some sort?
Gordon stopped some alien invaders and rebelled against his government. Woopie.
Doom guy stopped Hell itself.
Thread over.

Agreed on who fought the worst enemies and what not... but the arsenal in the battle was brought into play...
BFG9000... It is just as badass as its name implies.
Then we're left to think of what Mr. Freeman has... oh yeah, the Gravgun Mk.2
So yeah...
BFG9000 vs. Gravgun Mk.2
Gravgun Mk.2 wins. Even if you disagree, the ability of the gravgun to 'yoink' the BFG9000 out of it's owner's hand means it still wins.
Freeman 'yoinks' the BFG9000, chuckles, and levitates Mr. Doom several hundred feet in the air and lets him fall.
Hell may be a bitch, but gravity my friends... he's a mother****er.

Yeah honestly, the Freeman wins. in any circumstance!

I think it's obvious that the Doomguy would win after he lays the smackdown on Gordon Freeman's candy ass.

Does a scream here and there count? Why not link? The cartoon doesn't count.. nor does the worst zelda game ever.

...I would say Doomguy hands down, for reasons already mentioned in this post..
Also, Effsee... wtf crack were you smoking after I logged last night?!
My translation is:
Why isn't Link on the poll, given that he never speaks beyond a few screams (and the disallowed cartoon and game)?

Snake Eyes.
Don't even try to argue.
I think we are keeping to FPS silent protagonists for this thread.
And if we arent, where are Crono and Samus?

Samus has an FPS game, so she really should have been included.
Prime :heart
For the record, the G-Man has quite a considerable investment in Gordon and has in the past shown his willingness to step in and save Freeman's ass.
If nothing else, Gordon might win for having the G-Man on his side, because I don't think there's any way for the Doom guy to take on the G-Man.

Gravgun has nowhere near the range of the BFG9000, so Freeman couldn't even get close enough to try that out... so Doomguy still wins.

But given the ability of small firearms to disrupt the BFG9000, and the very high liklihood that Gordon could grab the BFG's shot with the Gravgun itself...he wouldn't need to grab the gun, just the shot in the air. (I mean hell, you can catch the combine disentegration balls they shoot at you, and the BFG shots are slower than that...)
Ok, extra parameters...
Enclosed 4 story arena, with both open rooms and hallways, and random obstacles/debris. Neither starts with weapons, but all weapons from both series are present in the arena. :P
(Oh, and does this qualify as the nerdiest thread this year?)
Satan<G-Man
Now that's a match I'd like to see. Satan and 6 Cyberbeasts (and we'll go ahead and throw the Maledict in there), against G-Man. :P
The G-Man is an unknown variable. We've observed an incredible amount of power (stopping time to remove people from ground zero!), certainly enough to trounce Doom Guy--but Satan? The Lord of Darkness, himself? Hard to say.
Zelda is too an FPS, if you look up in the top right hand corner, link uses the nintendo gun on occasion, also this is really funny and pertains to the whole silent thing.

Freeman wins using his advanced knowledge of transdimensional physics and wormhole theory.
