View Full Version : Mods: Someone trapped the entire path to the safehouse
And at midnight being the only one on, I have to go through these traps one by one. So far I have triggered 8 traps.
They were set by someone at a higher level, because I can't detect them, but it is malicious, it is mean-spirited, and totally out of character for the Safehouse. These traps are fatal. They are not funny, and if it were meant for fun, they could've used nondeadly traps. Please check the logs or something. The person who did this should apologize or they deserve to be banned.

I also went through the traps and got waxed. In NWN you can't sense other players' traps unless you are grouped with them when they are set. It's a fairly dumb bug I've found. I wasn't upset about it though, I thought it was kinda funny. But I could see how you took it that way.
Oh and Aidden- I'm sorry I am off to bed and not going to open email up.... but the Galleon's Exit is bugged- you can't zone out of the Galleon.

Yeah, it was funny at first, but then I died. Then I rested after every trap and it was a waste of time. At least a dozen, including ones set up on the way to the sewer entrance in the root cellar. Obviously wanted some newbies to die.
Well, the server is going to need reseting the way the sewers are (1 frame per second), but how about disabling P v P in all zones but certain small places like arenas? If we're not supposed to steal from each other, then how can killing others with traps (particularly when some have unlimited budgets) be justified? Edited by: Lisboa at: 7/31/02 1:16:15 am

I dont have that problem in the sewer.
You guys need a server reset?
When I go in the sewer I see a hundred bodies of orcs, wererats, etc., piled up and it's really slow. I think they need to disappear if they aren't.
I will look into the Spawn engine..
See if that is whats causing the server to lock up as well..
We are currently down again requiring a reeboot.
And jsut so everyone knows.. THis IS not a PVP server. If I find out who set trap at the startup location your account is banned permantly.
That is griefing, clear cut case of it...

I have a strong suspicion of who it is...
And unfortunately I will now have to take steps to monitor this type of activity in the log files..
Its sad that people can't just have a good time and nto try to ruin everyone else Fun.
Worst case scenarior I will jsut Turn PvP off but then we will end up losing out on a lot of opportunities..

Disabling pvp except in arena type areas would probably be best. I and possibly others have been pumping points into skills that normally would not be necessary out of fear of pickpockets and the such. I know Mideon has already made a return to the VS by doing things such as pickpocketting people and logging off once he's been spotted.

it's not like i did it or anything, but i don't see how this could be seen as such a bad thing to do...someone set down some traps, big deal.
either you could log off the server and let someone else set them off, or wait till a reboot. worst case scenario you die once and lose what, 50xp and 5 gold?
Really though it was ridiculous. Every single step to the safehouse was trapped from the outside, to the inside. Including the trap door, the hidden door, the door to the sewers. That's pretty malicious. Some of us didn't log in when there was free gold for all; I loot every corpse to pick up short swords to sell.

I don't think it's exactly fair to gang up on Mideon, expecially when he can't defend himself. Aidden, from the sound of it, you don't have logs of trap laying, so you're just guessing it's Mid because, well, he's Mid :P And I'll admit, he can be an idiot some/most of the time, but it wasn't necesarily him :P

50xp per level and 10% of your gold. Same is in single player, with the same gold maximum stealing amount.
I never said It was mideon who set the traps...
I said that we wont allow Griefing on the server...
Killing someone once is one thing.. Making someone spend 30 minutes of frustration is pointless.. Why should they have to do it? So another person can have their jollies?

The 2 issues got convoluted into a single...
Pickpocketing is by nature ok at the safehouse, but again to the point of making someone else experience un enjoyable is not...
The traps were wrong, period.

hehe, tonight i logged on, walked into the safehouse, mideon logged on, i died in the sewers, came back and tried to get into the safehouse to be poked severely by a 7 damage spike trap.
zulian's right though, mideon said he didn't do it. he was level 1 anyway, i doubt he had the skill to set deadly traps.

Aidden, When I get home I'll drop you a line with some observations on who is trapping, or at least was. I watched them bend down and the Disable/Set Trap animation was playing, but I couldn't detect the trap. I ran into the trap while they were in range though and killed us both.. :) I figured I'd take them with me if I was losing gp anyway. Jordinn, and my alter egos:

Hmm they are probably only level 1-2 if that's the case. It only takes a set trap skill of one or so to set the strong spike traps, which can kill a level 2 rogue instantly.

I'd be 100% fine with traps being set by players if they weren't broken in a PvP environment: Players cannot sense traps set by another player, and therefore cannot avoid or disable them.
