View Full Version : My idea for the VS: Level 20 Gotcha!

Now that there are at least five level 20s on the server, how about arranging a bit 'o the game? The world is large yet not so big that hide and sneak isn't possible, so I had an idea to make it interesting.

The game is like the 80s movie Gotcha (or if you prefer, Highlander). Someone not playing will randomly assign you a target to assasinate, another level 20. The target will not know you are going to kill them, though they may be distrustful of other level 20s. Then when you see they are on, you can hunt them down, or you can act like they aren't your target and group, and then lay the smack down!

Some rules:
-You need to say something to identify that you are attacking your target because it's the part of the game. I suggest either saying at the start of your attack, "Gotcha!" or "There can be only one!"
-If you are killed by your target or monsters during an assasination attempt, you are out of the game.
-If you kill your target, take a screen shot (print screen key), send it to the coordinator, and receive another target.
-As with EQ P v P, you should not grief your target (i.e., attack while they are fighting 7 giants), but attacking at inopportune moments is fair (target is resting after killing seven giants). Basically, don't attack until the other character is done with combat. If your target is killed by monsters that spawn and you live, then you advance.
-Otherwise, anything is fair game. Traps, spells, summons, trickery.
-Your target can choose to surrender if it is hopeless and needs to state this in the screenshot and you can choose to accept it if you want.
-If you pickpocket or disarm and take the weapon of your target or assasin, you should give it back afterwards.
-In the sporting spirit, you should resurrect or raise your target if you have the means, since they might lose a lot of cash, but this doesn't apply if you killed your assasin.
-IMPORTANT: When in battle with your target/assasin, play the no healing potion rule--if your opponent doesn't use healing potions, then you don't, if he does, then you can. Healing potions are cheap in duels and will only make the fight much longer than it has to be.
-Whomever is the last one left, wins!

If you want to participate in this, post your name and email, and tell others you see about it. You should try to log in fairly frequently so that the game doesn't get stuck because no one can find you. And let me know if you have any suggestions. We could have players of lower level join if they want, and we will need someone who will randomly assign who the targets are. Hopefully Aidden will help with this, by forwarding these rules in case there are some level 20s (Elerion?) who don't really log on anymore.

And keep in mind that your target could also be your assasin.

Might participate in this once I get to level 20 which should be this weekend depending on how often the server is up.

I think healing spells should be fine. Maybe we can also say that if you are a target that manages to escape from a battle you can heal up by any means as well, but you should try to finish up the fight on that log on. If you are the assasin who has to escape to heal up, you're out. Edited by: Lisboa at: 9/13/02 1:29:02 pm

Would be a nice addition, time to load up darkness & blind :) With the Unreal 2k3 demo coming out and battlefield 1942 being released I might not get 20 this weekend. Hopefully it will be soon though so I can help and see how well the system works.

Thanks for the flattery, but I'm not even close to 20 yet Lis. Hanging at 11 at the moment. I haven't been playing much at all lately, although I do log on on occasions. I've got a zillion other games that keep drawing my attention away the few hours I have at home

Oh, Mala, the UT2k3 demo is coming out this weekend? Damn this 56k! Damn it to hell! :">

Hmm... so it's not Elerion... what is the name of that level 20 ranger we haven't seen in a while?

This will probably not get started until next week, since fewer people than usual check the boards on Friday.

What about a tag type of game as well? A random person is "it", but no one knows who it is. So when you are killed and see "You're it!", you have to hunt someone else down. It would work the best if no one discussed who was or wasn't it to make increase the paranoia level.

Well, we did some testing with duels tonight, and it seems that some of the armor jewelry is a bit bugged--it is probably doing double what it should be. So either we will say you have to remove whatever natural armor class items (and possibly deflection ones as well), or we hope that a new patch comes out early in the week that fixes the AC stacking bug.

There are 5 seperate "types" of AC that are supposed to stack, to the best of my knowledge:

-Armor
-Shield
-Natural
-Deflection
-Dodge

They seem to be stacking all right to me, although I think I remember a case or two where a particular item was giving AC when it didn't seem like it should. Is it a bug reported by others?

I'll test some more tonight

Hm you can have multiple armor bonuses though, right? Like a plate armor and a bracer of armor? Or was that taken out in 3rd? I know Deflection AC isn't supposed to stack with other deflection items, but I was pretty sure natural and armor ac bonuses stacked with others of the same kind...

This is what I mean by the AC stacking bug.
Lis has an AC of 37 including racial bonuses.
Ponzican had a +27 to hit with his best attack. He should hit on a roll of a 10, but he hits only on a natural 20. As I have read on the NWN boards, some pieces of armor, not the base armor, are stacking improperly. I wear a cloak of protection +5 and an amulet of natural armor +5, and I believe these effects are getting doubled. So I have an effect AC of 47, meaning only a 20 will hit me.

The level 20 ranger fellow is Eoin, I believe. I'm chugging along at 15....

I got my cleric(Arya) to 20 earlier today. Is the Gotcha game still going to take place? I know there should be more 20s coming soon. e-mail = jawa101@aol.com

I think if we are to have the game before the patch, we need to have a rule:

If you wear an amulet of natural armor, you must remove it and not put anything in the slot. If you are a cleric who wears a wisdom amulet, you must remove whatever bracer you are using and leave that slot empty. If everyone can agree to just keeping them off at all times, then we can start, but at a minimum we need agreement that you at least hotkey swap out your item if you attack/get attacked.

We also need to ask Aidden to set the City to full P v P settings. We still don't have anyone who agrees to referee and send out the hitlist, but who can't partake.

Quote: If you wear an amulet of natural armor, you must remove it and not put anything in the slot. Assuming this is due to the 1.24 AC bug, would swapping to a resistance amulet still cause the bug? Edited by: MalachiteSilvyrfrost at: 9/18/02 12:08:23 am

No, swapping in a resistance item wouldn't cause the bug, it'll still double the deflection armor bonus though. I guess we just neeed the rule that you need something else besides a natural armor amulet in that spot at all times, so clerics can keep whatever bracer they wear.
