View Full Version : I feel like I'm playing both rogue classes terribly wrong...
And I can't help but enjoy myself.
Currently got a 28 Kinetic Shadow tank, and a 15 Sawbones Scoundrel.
So nice being able to be a healer that can sneak back to quest objectives, catch up with groups, etc, and the energy mechanic for scoundrels is kind of fun. Starting off the fight as a stealthed tank took my head some time to wrap around, but I'm also thoroughly enjoying that too.
Feels like SWTOR took the old rogue concept and turned it on it's head, allowing them to fill roles that they weren't really able to in other games.
I'm having a lot of fun with my Assassin (I love the ability to switch from DPS to tank at a moment's notice), and my altoholism is kicking in nicely because I found myself rolling up an agent as well (just specced into Operative; decided on trying out the middle skill tree which seems to benefit the stealth and vibroblade aspects of the class).
I now have a Juggernaught, Assassin, Operative, Sage, Shadow, Scoundrel, and Sentinel (though I think I'll hold off on the Shadow in hopes of rerolling a Cathar or Togruta Shadow <crosses fingers in hopes of Bioware adding those races at a later date>).
With my assassin I went along a storyline quest in which I had to 'undefect' a scientist. The quest turned out quite interesting in that I intended to capture the scientist and throw him in jail or kill him after he'd done the work I'd needed, but near the end of the quest my initial contact tried to play hardball with me by refusing to give me what i needed until I'd saved his son who had went out and gotten himself captured. So against my will I go to save his son and he's a real douchebag. If he'd just shown a modicum of respect I would've opened the cell door and he would've been back with his father. But he starts making demands and speaking down to me so I say 'screw this, their bloodline dies today' and kill the son, then go back to his father to which he whines to me about me killing his son so I kill him as well.
Then I go to the scientist and during the conversation I realize this guy's the only one who's done exactly what I've asked of him and treated me with respect, so I ended up letting him go back to the Republic (-160 points from Khem Val for that decision, though thanks to my mayhem during the rest of the questline I ended up with a final tally of +5 for the quest) instead of betraying my deal with him.
I've got a Level 15 Sawbones Scoundrel, enjoying the game so far, mainly just b/c of the story quests.
What crew skills would you recommend for Scoundrel?
So far I'm doing Cybertech, Scavenging, Slicing. I only have a weapon to mod, though... wondering when I get armor with mod slots.

Complete the Gree quest line (starts in the Senate building) and you'll get an orange chest piece. You can also check the auction for orange pieces (I think one of my empire characters has a schematic for 'Sentinel Leggings' which is a smuggler/knight orange leg armour; my Operative uses the Sith version of it which is agent/warrior only). There are orange social armour pieces, but they're rated to light armour so they're not as useful except to the light armour classes.
For crew skills, it kind of annoys me that they limit you to three and make sure you need a certain gathering and mission skill to be able to craft the items of the crafting skill, leaving you with nothing left over or forcing you to not be able to craft your items without using the auction house if you don't choose the certain grouping of skills:
Cybertech: Scavenging and Underworld Trading
Synthweaving: Archaeology and Underworld Trading
Artifice: Archaeology and Treasure Hunting
Armstech: Scavenging and Investigation
Armormech: Scavenging and Underworld Trading
Biochem: Bioanalysis and Diplomacy
My Sith Warrior is a synthweaver which allowed me to mail myself Archaeology crafting materials to my Assassin (who's an Artifice) so I could get Investigation for schematics (that's how I got the synthweaving schematics for my Operative's orange medium armour), but it forces my Assassin to rely on my Warrior for materials.
That's really helpful, thanks!
Now to decide if I should give up Slicing so I can efficiently do Cybertech... I guess I should.
And to make sure I understand you correctly, Investigation benefits various crafting skills, but I'd basically need to do what you do and have 2 characters due to the skill number limitations.. otherwise I'd miss out on schematics without buying them off the AH.
Unless it's changed since beta, slicing is basically a money maker so you could use the money gained by slicing to buy what you need off the auction house.
This morning I gave up Investigation for Archaeology because I found myself passing by resources while playing my Assassin and having to constantly send out my Warrior's companions for materials, costing me too many credits (my Warrior is now level 25 but doesn't have anywhere near the 48,000 credits needed for speeder training and a speeder).
