Stealth Bug

I had an interesting bug occur the other day. I was in Kael scouting for the idol. This was the first time I was responsible for scouting this area and being cautious I was coning some of the mobs. As I prepared to enter I con a giant and he was scowling at me... Thinking I forgot to hide or hide broke somehow I checked my sneak/hide buttons. They were both greyed out. Then I changed my view and sure enough my name was in parenthesis. So from my client's perspective I was hidden...

Thinking I was encountering that a random mob that could see through my invis I went looking for other mobs. They were also scowling. I then asked a guildie if I was hidden and was told now. So there it is a confirmed instance of being hidden from the client but not on the server. I'm also thinking that perhaps this is the source of seemingly rare random instances when mob sometimes mysteriously see you. Perhaps you were visible all the time on the server and just got lucky till suddenly you get close enough to agro a mob.

Anyway has anyone else been able to catch this happening to you? I make a habit now of not trusting hide sneak or client confirmation. When going somewhere high risk I always con first.

Is it possible that a bard "sang an invis" at you beforehand? This will overwrite Hide/Sneak/SoS, and then leave you visible (but locally under the impression that you're hidden/SoS'ed) when the song effect wears off.

Did you clear your target, and then rehide and see if they were still scowls? Could be you had engaged a mob or it had aggrod you and you had it targeted when you hit hide, evading instead of actually hiding.
Also do you have SOS or just regular hide and sneak? I believe up the ramp after the bank area when headed to the arena, you run into the see invis mobs.
Thats all i could think of off the top of my head.

its also possible to be lagging, iv hit hide/sneak a few times and i dont immediately get the message that i have hid but the button greys out so i thought i was hid when in reality i wasnt cause until you get the message you have hidden the server doesnt recognize you as such

there is a bug that i get during fights with my evade key. if the mob dies while i'm evading it shows me invis(could also be cause i move), even if i walk without sneak, but all mobs can still see me etc. doesnt go away even if i attack, till i hide and unhide again without moving

I have had this happen a few times - esp in So Ro Tower. A classic example is when checking if a mini is up and then zoning out of a mini boss sub zone only to be jumped. Hit escape they walk away.

You were in Kael?

The center strip of Kael connecting EW to WL is relatively stealth-safe; however, the entire Arena area (to the north of that path) and the entire Tormax area (to the south of that path) are 100% see-invis mobs.

Those "see invis" mobs can't see Shroud of Stealth, which is what we are talking about here.

I've personally walked thru all of the arena, behind the ice wall, under Vindi's legs, back thru the temple, into the tunnel, and out thru the arena with SOS. All of Kael is SOS'able if it's not bugged, or if you don't have aggro. I'm sure this will be confirmed by every SOS rogue, unless SOS is bugged, or SOE has made a change to gimp us Berael.

If you lag a moment, hitting hide while moving, you'll get a 'must stand completely still!' message but your client thinks you're hidden (parenthesis appear). In fact, you are not hidden, and it's just a visual bug on your client. This has been in-game ever since they first introduced hide.

Yes and when you take into account the fact that he is scouting kael for the first time, the idea that he still don't have SoS make sense.

Yes I am an SOS rogue.

I didn't have any agro and when I unhide and unsnuck (a word ) then rehid I was fine. None of the mobs can SOS as I spent quite a bit of time scouting to help puller clear all the mobs.

Both my sneak and hide buttons were grayed out. I ran to several mobs checking them. I had no invis on me. I had parenthesis around my name and a guild mate could clearly see me without using a see invis effect.

This was something that I noticed and explored pretty fully when I noticed it. It was without question a bug. Now it is possible that I might have been under a bards effect at some time but I don't think so.

So I take it nobody else has been attacked when under SOS by a mob that can't see SOS? And nobody has been hiding and had mobs and other players be able to see them? In my life as a rogue I can think of a couple times when I am fairly certain that I was hidden and had mobs agro on me. Up until now I thought it was a random mob somehow seeing through SOS. Now I think it is the bug I encountered last week.
