View Full Version : Building the Pick Lock Skill using the PoTranquility Trick.

I often hear people reference to the PoTranquility Trick for building up the rogue Pick Lock skill, but I don't think that I have ever seen anyone explain it (if I missed anyones post showing what I will show here, I want to say sorry in advance for the re-post.)
Ok, now that that is out of the way... First, you will need to be level 46 or higher in order to even enter the PoTranquility. Second, make sure ya got those good ole' lock picks handy (duh...)
Third:
Be sure to position yourself here on top of the table (or on top of the rotating book that sets on the table). You may need to move around a bit on the table or book until you find the sweet spot that works with the trick. I find that standing on the left side (while facing the exit door of the building) of the table works fairly effective for me.
You can see the PoK book in this photo. This gives you an idea of where this table and rotating book are.
Fourth:
Grab up your lock picks, and proceed to click your finger off (click in the highlighted area seen in the photo). You get the "You have picked the lock" message as fast as you can click, and your skill points go up reaaaaly fast.
And thats it. Enjoy.

Unrelated note: You can max disarm traps on the moveing piller in SoL B near the begining of the BnB area.( Try not to disarm it in down postion you might trap players running from there.):"> CleptowCrumbsnatcher

Unsure if your still able but you could max sense traps and remove traps both while running in the wide open. You got a message something to the effect you have found no traps to remove or some such filth but you would still earn skill ups every few pushes. I max both while running amok on raids.

For the record, not that anyone would use it there, but the same trick also works in the Crypt of Decay. In first-person view, back up on the throne pedastal into the throne. Stop when just a smidgeon of the throne pops into view. Then just click around the top left corner of the hallway leading deeper into the zone.

I believe (and this is from memory, so I'm not sure if its fully accurate) that you can bump Pick Lock to
202 at 51,
204 at 52,
206 at 53,
208 at 54 and

You can practice Disarm Traps to 200 at the Pendulum in Sol A, too.

Did the LP trick last night on my rogue. Works as advertised, thanks for the tip.
PS. best part about the whole thing: you dont have to wait for a door to open/shut, you can raise your LP skill as fast as you can click

you can auto detect and disarm traps though, why stand in Sol, is it faster? I just made a hot key,
/Doability 1 (detect),
/Doability 2 (disarm),
/Doability 3 (sence heading).
(may have put a delay of a sec between detect and disarm cant remember now)
Then map it to a movement key. It maxes all by itself and you never even notice most times. Lots better then wasting hours clicking in my opinion. Edited by: Subadai at: 9/10/03 7:28 am

I remember seeing a nice list of picklock trivals of doors that can be picked, but can't find it.

I had hot keys set up for detect and sence traps.
Until they maxxed out ..
it was backstab,disarm, sence, disarm during fighting.

A little tip to add... Instead of clicking and handing your lockpicks to sombody running by.. Just pound your "U" key on your keyboard as fast as you can with your Pointer in the same position.

You can raise disarm traps anywhere. Yes, you will get a "you have not detected a trap" message if there isn't one around but you can STILL get skill hits. I maxed Disarm Traps waiting for boats in the old days.

You can do this in PoTime too, water trial i think it is. There's a spot in the middle of the trial that you can pick but it doesn't lead anywhere. baedin

Just went from 150 to 200 on Terris-Thule in about 30 minutes. Thank you SO much... For my sister, but we need more 200+ lockpicking in our guild, and voila, one more Rogue to add to the ranks of Skilled Lockpickers!

The elevator in CoM can be picked by a bard with 100 skill, and skill works that way too after the CoM revamp. Still insufficient skill to pick the Neh'shir door up top at the end of the first catwalk @100 skill tho, but I haven't had a chance to try it since remaxing skill to 125.

I went to PoTranq. to try this out after I hit level 46 - 1 skill in pick lock. Literally 12 minutes later I had 200 skill.

Mechanized Lockpicks may give +2% mod, but by taking those same lockpicks and a little bit of hand-dandy tinkering, highly skilled gnomes can also produce a +3% lockpick set of gloves.

Afraid not, Jazya. It seems not possible for me to do. I've been back there at least 6 or 7 times since that night we teamed up, and I still haven't even been able to get Zed to pop. I use to get lots of Zeds, and no mask. Now days I'm getting no Zeds at all. -Transfix

I keep my Disarm Traps and my Detect Traps as a hot key. Whenever Quickfingers turns left, both skills get used. They go up in skill regardless if there is a trap in zone or not. They have been maxxed out forever.

My rogue isn't 46 yet, but I have found the "door" with my ranger. I found that anywhere on or near the magic book table worked. Stand on or near the table, and click on the door going outside. You should get a message that it's locked and you're not holding the key... -------------------------

I'm a gnome. Standing next to the book in that spot doesn't work for me. Maybe it's because I'm so short that folks tend to get in the way easier, who knows
I stood on top of the book and clicked just below the top arch of the door. Less issues with accidentally "trading" the picks with a passerby clicking there too~
Helped speed the gap I had from 195 to 210 Took me all of like 5 minutes.
Oh and to map something to your movement keys, look in your Options ingame. The key assignments are there. Look for the "Other" or "Miscellaneous" ones. You'll see some keys denoted as "Hotbutton 1" through "Hotbutton 10". Those are your little hotbuttons on yoru screen; 1 being top left and counting like such:

Each one has two "keys" assigned to it. Look at the Movement keys in the same Options screen there and look what buttons you use to move with. For me, it was 'W' as forward, 'S' as backwards, 'A' left and 'D' right since I remapped it.
Put whatever skill you want in whatever hotbutton slot you want and remember the number. Now go back into your Mescellaneous buttons options and click one of the two "keys" next to it and press the same button you use for whatever movement you want tied to it.
Now everytime you press that movement key, it also presses the button you tied to it in your hotbuttons.
I've used that trick for ages now to raise everything on my toons from Sense Heading to Sense Traps to Forage. Quite useful.
