Now, I know I've been away for quite some time but this is a new one on me.

While in a nice comfy group, complete with a chanter and cleric, I kept noticing those dreaded "A Puny but incredibly annoying mob good for nothing but leveling your characters while half asleep has been awakened by Hobbs.."

Okay, once I'm thinkin oops, sorry my bad.

Twice, I'm thinkin dammit.

Three times, I'm thinkin stop it, ya look like a noob.

Four times, the chanter tells you "knock it off, or your walkin out by your self."

Now, I've got my own little ASSIST macro key made up, had it for over a year on different characters. So, I went ahead and added that repetitious little "I'm ASSISTING Soandso." line to the dam thing. (and yeah, by this time I'm nearly as irritated as the chanter)

Lo and behold, I line up opposite the tank, click my little macro, out spews the "I am ASSISTING Soandso", wait a beat, click auto attack, and promptly shank the poor sap standing NEXT to me in a stupor...

"A Puny but incredibly annoying mob good for nothing but leveling your characters while half asleep has been awakened by Hobbs.."

/sigh.

Anyway, after playin around with things a bit, I finally figured out that hitting attack without a valid target auto targets the nearest mob, combine that little 'feature' with a bit of lag and ya get a pissed off chanter.

Now, after I figured out what was going on, I only broke one more mezz but it's still irritating enough I'd like to be able to turn that thing off if I could. I will check things out in game when I get there, but in the mean time anyone got a suggestion?

Check your key bindings for Target Closest NPC (aka F8), they were changed with a recent patch and a number of us got bitten by this.

D'oh, yep, that's exactly what it was. Guess I missed the memo. Thanks for the reply and saving me from another night of embarrassment.

Now, back to pixel land..

Another thing I've noticed is the semi-transparency of my hotkey windows. If I slide my cursor just off the edge of my assist hotkey, I will end up clicking THROUGH the entire menu and onto what ever PC or NPC is standing right in front of me and changing my target, usually to a pet. Drives me batty when I find out the mob is at 60% and I haven't even hit it yet.

Your assist hotkey should have one line and one line only.

/assist Tank

where Tank is the name of your main assist/tank.

There is no need for /attack on or /attack. If you /assist Tank and Tank is not attacking anything, nothing will happen, and nothing will wake up.

If the tank has nothing targeted, it will do nothing.

If they have a target, you will begin to attack that target, even if they haven't intentionally engaged them.

ie: mob1 hits tank, mob 1 gets mez'd, you assist, tank targets, and attacks mob2.

Happens all the time. I try to hold off on assisting for a few seconds after they have attacked, to make sure they have decided on their target.

Also, just an FYI, if the healer and the tank only have one letter difference in their name, make sure you don't accidentally type the healer's name

Personally, my assist macro is:

/assist
/assist <secondary tank> (optional)
/assist <main tank>

That way you can assist on any random person if needed and if the MT goes down, you don't have to hunt around for the ST's name in the raid list. Just remember to wait for the target to appear before attacking else if the ST is setting up a mez it could break it.

It also gives your tank just enough time to establish aggro. Marauder Koer Poisondirk and Koerin Scales

Am I the only rogue who has two assist keys in his hotkey bank? I've got one for MA and a separate one for SA. I did kinda like the idea of the double assist key, assisting the SA and the MA in the same hot-key...this could be good for me.

On a related note, Hobbs, I remember being bitten by this change, and wondering what the hell was going on for a good two hours before I gave up, went afk and looked through the entire keyboard macro assignment list to figure out how in the hell I was smacking mezzed mobs. Especially since I've always been pretty religious about never hitting attack if the MA/SA doesn't have a target. -Sinc

There is no I in team, but there is a U in suck.

I disabled attack on assist in my ini file.

So I assist but not attack. works like a charm.

you can just type /assist off or something like that to disable autoattack on assist. that might not be the command, but there is one.

Ok this is pretty cool, but one stupid question.

/assist
/assist <Secondary Tank>
/assist <Main Tank>

If main goes down and you hit Assist again you will assist <Secondary Tank>?

No need to edit the macro?
