View Full Version : If a new server started now, what 2box combo would you play?

Just curious, because in the past I have seen most 2-boxers go with a charming/kiting combo (druid+ench) or the classic melee+healer combo (shaman/cleric/druid+war/shd/pal/monk).

I was thinking about this earlier though, and started thinking about why one should not choose a magician+shaman combo. This combo would resemble the traditional healer+melee combo, with the shaman slowing, buffing, dotting and healing, and the magician dishing out damage and tanking through the pet. Very few of their spells overlap eachother, so they should be able to use their abilities fully, and complement eachother in an awesome way by the shaman adding the utility magician sorely lacks. Magician summoned weapons and armor pieces are actually also very powerful on a brand new server. In addition, if you are the powerlevelling type, you could progress through the game almost naked, instead of having passing up superior xp spots to get gear for the melee.

The combo would also be easier to play in groups. Especially for EQw users, being main slower and MT+puller at the same time is rather hard. If the shaman also has to be main healer, the work starts getting done sloppily. Mage is a much more passive character though, allowing you to simply sic pet in a group, while you work the shaman actively, nuking with mage occasionally. Mages are also very strong in the dps department on all levels of the game, especially on a new server, so grouping should be no issue at all.

Necro/shaman would also be a very interesting combo, particularly for root rotting, but I think the mage is better suited in general because of the stronger pet and affinity for letting the pet tank outright. Necros don't really have much use for slow in large parts of the game since their target is facing away from the pet anyway, and the necro also requires more active playing than the mag, particularly if aggro kiting - in which case the shaman becomes rather unnecessary.

I'm just rambling here, but thoughts?

SK/Sham. FD Pulling, aggro lock, plate class with a slower/healer/damage doer built in. It's a lock

Necro/Sham is a great combo. A friend plays it. Most times he has the Sham just slow+dot to gain aggro and tank mez's and the necro sends pet from behind and dots the mob's life away. Works pretty well

Yep, I did sham/SK for a week on Stromm. I found it very limiting to have to supply the tank with so much gear to stay efficient though, and I did have a bit too much to do in some groups, when I was both main healer and puller/tank.

On an established server, I agree that is "the" perfect combo. On a new server however, gear is a big hurdle.

I'd most likely use two druids. Call me crazy. =x

Beastlord/Druid.
They cover all the basics: dps/snare/heals/dots/buffs/slows/transportation/invis outdoors and inside (eventually)/track/forage/mana regen (eventually), the only real limitation is how active you want to make both characters. In addition they will be decidedly more effective in outdoor zones, which are a preferred way to level solo/2 boxing.
Gear doesn't seem to be too much of an issue as both classes are able to run light until they reach a high enough level where they can farm plat with fair effectiveness.
Just my 2cp.

One of the two clearly needs to be a druid. Why? Because nobody twinks like a druid twinks, and after you've got those two characters to high levels, you're sure to want some more, or have some friends to bring along, or...

And the other?

Beastlord. Hands down. I play a 64 warrior and a 63 beastlord (and yes, I dual-box them all the time). Beastlords are *amazing*. They slow. They haste. They do huge disgusting chunks of DPS. They tank (poorly). They absolutely rock, except when they are otherwise occupied with rolling.

But that's just my $0.02, and it's late enough at night that I honestly can't think out all the implications of druid/beastlord dual-boxing.

*shrug*

Me? I'd find two other like-minded friends who wanted to be on the server, and divvy up a six-person group between the three of us: chanter, druid, beastlord, plate tank, magician, necro. Grind them all up to 20 on whatever you like, then hit LDoN to 65. I estimate it would take about a month of six hours or so a day to have them all from newborn to 65 (this based on my grinding from 56 to 65 in LDoN in about two weeks of moderate play). But that's just me.

Take care,

G/G/D.

I like to duo box my druid and bestlord, it works great. Beastlord being my main has great gear and can tank slowed mobs just fine, and with the druid's healing and everything else its pretty easy.

Beastlord is an easy choice for one of them. Besides being discustingly overpowered they rely on gear far less then most melee classes which would be a fairly big advantage on a new server. Even nacked you know the pet will be there outtanking and outdamaging equal level characters by itself not to mention the beastlord spells ect. Add a druid to this and you are ready to rock.
