View Full Version : Who can help me--Higher level Rogue vs Ranger

06-26-01, 12:37 PM
So I usually have decent success in duels, have a poison skill in the 170 range and am not afraid to use whatever I can. I have my duel bag: Pumice(with cast time), resist gear, Goob of Goo(Immobilize) and Spider Thread Net?(Ensnaring Root), Myrlokar Boots.

This is my gear/stats eq.castersrealm.com/playe...p?Id=37410

Well what tactics do I need to have a chance against a 58 Ranger? eq.castersrealm.com/playe...p?Id=37301

He uses a Lammy usually in Primary, has a different cloak now (COF to a twink) and some AC 26ish BP almost no stats or bonuses(Fungi on same twink).

Last fight he got snare to stick and used his bow discipline and whooped me.

Do I stand a chance or is the level difference jsut too much?

A ranger beats any rogue simply because of thorns. if you pumice it off they can simply recast it. The only way you could possibly defeat thorns is if you have multiple instant click pumices (or golem wands) and arnt afraid to blow them all.

When I duel good rangers with the clause of no damage shields allowed, I usually go 50/50 (though I almost never use poison or pumice in friendly duels) - against damage shield its impossible.

Get a damage shield potion from a shammy and fight fire with fire. Use a snare poison on him. Carry golem wands for yourself. When he is shielded, stick with backstabs only.

Get a small ball of velium and nuke him to death =p

Farm/buy some Golem Wands from CT. Get a Damage Shield potion as Kam said . Keep a pumice on you. Open with a snare poison, then strip him with the Golem Wand(s). Somewhere between there buff yourself with the damage shield. Then I just recommending whipping out the close range combat and beating the hell out of him. Between his no buffs, and the snare poison killing his haste, and the damage shield, he should be dying fast... Rebuff your damage shield as much as you need. If you get snared pumice it right away. Might also want to pick up SoW Potions.

And if you do get snared rooted, I would SStep fairly far away before you pumice. Less chance of him interrupting you. Don't forget using the hide to your advantage, he probably won't have see invis left after your golems have eaten him up.

The damage shield potions are decent, but only do 12 damage I believe. I have Jboots so I would use them over sow potions for the cast time.

It looks like I have to get lucky to have a chance.

Thanks for the advice!

If it land, dispell him with pumice sow and DS nad well if u have the time put some snare one after being hided
and kill.
if poison doesn t land well DS yourself with whatever u have and hope u land massive BS lol especially when he will cast, easy to say harder to do
but well at lv 58 rangers in full gear should have enough Pr to resist poisons

I have found that I tend to lose to people higher level than me, and I tend to beat people lower than me, and I'm level 56.

Rangers are easy though. Think about what a ranger is: a high damage tank with snare and sow. I guarantee he can't match a rogue's damage output.

The fact that he has SoW is actually a disadvantage because he probably doesn't have Jboots. This means that all you have to do is pumice off his SoW and with Jboots, you are suddenly the faster one. I use a Ragebringer and Captain Nalot's Eyepatch so I can kick out about 5-10 hits plus a possible backstab in the time it takes to recast SoW so he will not get that back up. If he has a DS up, kite him and pumice him until you get it off.

Once he's buff and SoW free, he's nothing but a weak rogue. Run up to him and start pounding him while circling for a backstab. Remember that we can hide now and make tanks lose us as a target, so if he don't have see invis up, or you pumiced it, you can back off and hide for a backstab and he can't break it with a bow.

If you're just dueling the guy on a blue server, odds are he won't have good MR against you because he'll want to max out his AC. Use a snare poison on him (They resist off of MR. I've tested). That doesn't work very well on PvP servers because everyone runs around with good MR unless they are stupid or poor. Oh, and get your MR above 100 to avoid snare. You get snared, you lose.

That you for the advice (especially Shoe). I actually did not expect much more in this thread but...I did not realise that Hide breaks the targeting of the other PC, this is huge! I would guess that using the boots and then hiding, apply another poison if needed would work well.

Thanks again!

here is what you do

Duel the ranger outside of Karnor Castle.

Start the duel, run outside behind a wall.

Pumice his sow, buffs and dmg shield.

Run back in and with snare poison applied to your blade, or blind poison, whuuup ass.

never fails. Rodcet Nife Ring Warden

Raise your MR.

Yep, raise your MR. If you're snared might as well /q because the match is over.

And fire resistance. Very important.

Pumice stones have a rather long casting time now if I remember correct, and when I firestrike/call of flame my rogue friend he does go down fast. So in the time you spent cancelling, you could get damaged alot when not carefull.

If (en)snare sticks it's pretty much over as they said. Raincaller plus some 150 range arrows can't be reached by spells, or rogue bows (ok, maybe primal?) or whatever.

Just remember, the one who said a ranger is a tuned down rogue, that's only the mellee part. A ranger only melleeing is just a weak warrior. Get resists up. - Jochem Woudloper
