I just don't get PvP. Not that it's stupid or anything, I just don't understand how people like this rogue can get such reputations for their skills and all other rogues have the same basic capabilities...right?

PvP takes the most skill in EQ. You need to know how to use the capibilties.

PvP, as a rogue, is based SO much on personal skill rather than the capabilities you have available to you.

It honestly takes GREAT skill to be able to master all of your techniques. Not an easy feat at all.

PvP is highly dependant on your skill at playing against other humans. If you don't know what you are doing, a rogue (or any class for that matter) will get slaughtered even by lower level players. However, if you are good at PvP a rogue is the deadliest class in the game.

My old guild used to have PvP guild events in the arena. It didn't take long for people to figure out who was dangerous and who was not. I still cackle with glee when i think about takin down that poor wizzie in one round of melee (quad attack, double stab, dead wizzie). Anyway, PvP combat is definitely more reliant on player skill than anything else. That is why some people can gain a reputation for lethality while others with the same level/equipment do not.

Ok, I understand that much I guess. What really sets a mediocre PvP rogue apart from a feared PvP rogue, tactics wise?

Taking a stab in the dark (pun intended), my rogue PvP tactics would pretty much consist of (and obviously I barely know what I'm talking about) hiding/sneaking behind your target, BSing them, meleeing, re-hiding to clear their targeting if they're trying to melee/cast back, rinse, repeat. Add in some strafing and running around corners and such.

Without giving away any l33t PvP tactics, what can a very skilled rogue do that sets them apart from the mediocre one? I completely understand that my above tactic may not work exactly that way...tell me why if you so feel inclined. PvP interests me, I've just never had the inclination to explore this alternate world of EQ past level 10.

Great pvp'rs understand how to use the game mechanics to their advantage. Things like client prediction factor in alot, many practice for hours to be able to "front backstab" for example. that says ALOT. if you know when someone is about to start casting on you and can hit them first, when you can tell the difference between an oom caster and one whos just waiting around, when you can smell iminent attack from one or two small clues youre on your way to greatness. rogues have it rough pvp compared to every single class other than monks/warriors. Because casting through walls is lame as hell. If you want to be a gimp, there are more ways than you can count to do it (Especially as a stupid dr00d, like me) in this game. BUT, if you want respect, and if you don't want people to make your life a living hell, you PvP the way you'd like to be PvPed.

Dont know really what to say. Like Zimen said, there goes my ego heh.

PVP at the bank is easiest for me, because i know the agro range of the guards (I'm kos), when i hit the bank i usually look for a sitting caster, first and easiest kill, if i dont kill him in the first few rounds, ill switch to druids and healers. Invulnerable healers play a factor, but losing because of an invuln gives me no shame really.

Honestly I lose a lot anymore, but since gaining 59th it's toned down a bit. 57 and 58 really sucked for me pvp wise, my connection from cable to dial up happened, and it was hard to get used to (lost to a 54 warrior at 57th ouch) Now I'm pretty much used to being on dial up, and I can start hanging with the big boys again.

It's funny how people percieve PVP when they havent tried it, or tried it long enough. Someone mentioned sneaking up on an oppenent, when in reality it rarely happens. Stealth helps, but the quickness of your kill is everything. The longer you take to make the kill, the more chances of someone else jumping in plays a part in the total outcome.

Thanks for making this thread, it really means a lot to be appreciated, being PDM i dont get appreciatted all that often =)
