View Full Version : Possible Uber Weapon Versus Pet Casters

Greetings,

I don't do PvP, but I was thinking about something this mornin and I think I came up with a way to seriously disrupt pet casters, Beastlords, Mages, and Necros mainly. Yes, there are a lot of weapons now available to that target specific types of mobs and do extra damage to them, but what if there was a way to get rid of the pet all together.

What I am thinking of could, by some, be defined as a bug, however, I doubt VI would see it that way.

Currently when people duel/PvP pet casters, they will ignore the pet and go after the caster themselves, with Beastlords, this can be a bit dangerous a tactic due to the warders damage output. Instead, what if you hit caster with invis? Their pet will poof, which is a death sentence for Beastlords and eliminates a lot of a Mages offensive power as well. A Necro would remain dangerous, but far easier than before.

Would/does this work in PvP/duels? I know currently, you don't need to be grouped with someone to Invis them, further, I know you can invis people on blue servers that have tagged themselves as PvP. Does it work on red servers or when dueling?

You do have to be grouped to invis, bind, or cast an illusion spell on someone. At least on VZ you do. I thought it was that way for all servers.

So your tactic doesnt work. Now Bards can poof pets all day due to a bug, unfortunately for the pet casters.

Hehe its not a bug, but it is fun

Trust me I would much rather be able to charm that necro pet and send him after his master, rather than have it poof. Edited by: Jondin Sottovoce at: 1/3/02 6:37:49 am

Its a bug, which hopefully will be fixed eventually. Enchanters can do the same thing, but they also get a message "this spell cannot affect the targeted PC" or something like that, when trying to charm a pet.

Not a bug? It's definitely a bug, and using it is an exploit. Why Verant has ignored this problem for so long is a mystery to me... Rulan Jiggamental

Why Verant has ignored this bug for so long cannot POSSIBLY be a mystery to you. They consistently fail to consider the implication of blue server changes to red server play environments. No surprise.

I'm with you though: this is an exploit that really pisses me off. A pet is crucial for pet-casting classes. --Soupypoopy|Tarse|Vova Elay<Flowers of Happiness>

Err alright! And enchanters don't use this tactic because the pet only poofs when charm wears off. Since an enchanters charm lasts significantly longer than 18 seconds (used to be 12 seconds) they have no reason to use it.

Still, beleive me when I say, I would MUCH rather charm the pet and sick it on its master than charm/poof it.

And think about it, what would the pet owner rather have? a pet thats poofed? Or his/her own pet beating on his/her arse? If you ask me, the pet poof bug is a blessing to the pet owner, not a curse.

I hope they fix this "bug" soon so that I can watch pet classes beat down by their own previously fawning pets. It would do much to improve my general day to day demeanor on RZ.

Its not a blessing because pets aren't supposed to be charmable.

They aren't suppose to poof either.

Just charm the caster, and sic them on their own pet. That works just as well. >=)

You get the "can't charm this" message then it poofs. You're saying "Well, the alternative is me charming it and kicking your ass" whereas that message suggests the intention is for PCs pets, like PCs, to be uncharmable.

How bout this, you can charm my pets when I can fear kite you, sound reasonable? Well, no, because I'd never land fear on a bard, but I'd still own everybody else.

Bard poofing was mentioned at the FFaire I'm told, and hopefully this BUG will be fixed, a blessing to pet classes. I've never fought a bard with Solons who didn't poof my pet at first opportunity, leaving me in a slightly awkward position.
