We have started Forum migration and will continue to do so over the next few days.

When we start a forum migration, we will be closing down the EZboard forum just prior to launching the migration script.

We have found a few issues we need to work through, but wanted to give everyone a heads up as you will start to see the old posts move over.

One of the key things is we were forced to migrate the old account names over along with the posts. Before someone asks why we didn’t just migrate your user account so you didn’t have to sign up again, let me answer that now.

By doing an account migration, all accounts come over with a shared password. The users would then be required to login with that shared password and change it. Also all accounts come over with a generic email address of null@null.com. After much deliberation we decided that this was extremely unsecured, and would prove in the long run to be more trouble that it is worth.

We also want to keep an accurate count of active members of the forums. And importing all 46K plus accounts from EZboard would have not done that for us.

So due to the requirements of having to bring the account names along with the posts, we added a prefix of “EZ_” to the beginning of all user names. So you will be seeing posts possibly even with your own account but it will be slightly modified with the prefix.

You cannot modify these old posts. You have zero access to them. We apologize, but we really didn’t have any choice in the matter.

Also all HTML and SIGs were stripped from the posts during migration. Again this was done to minimize corruption and to ensure we grabbed all data intact.

We appreciate your patience as we make the move off of EZboard

Question about this

Does that mean our post count will be following us to the new board? I thought that was one of the things being cut... But if not, that's great.

Since the old posts are made by "EZ_Pyrocat Moonstalker" and not by "Pyrocat Moonstalker", no, your post count will not be following you :)

I went in and turned off "Add signature to every post", as you've all taught me to do that like second-nature. That does bring the question, however...will the same sigfile rules apply?

The Same rules apply as you can read within the FAQ's and rules link at the top of the page, but the good part is that we can now enforce it from the Admin control panel.

I think I hear Gyorg crying. His one passion was cut and pasting his "signature twice" message.

Did migration stop? Havent seen anything new migrated for almost a week in the 3 rogue forums that have less than 100 posts.

And I am seeing posts being added to the Root Cellar, but still have no access.

Aidden has been out of town on work for a bit, so hasn't gotten the full migration done. It should be happening in the next period of time.

There are about 30 or 40 people who got RC access during the early betatest of the board so we could be sure accesses and permissions are working properly. No one has gotten access in quite a bit of time, nor will they until SX runs the merge script.

Don't worry, we'll make a big announcement when it's time to open up RC access to people.
