Well, LineageII is doing beta testing for North America now. Simply pop into your local gamestore and preorder it and you get a CD that allows you into the beta.

There is no lockpicking or hiding and sneaking as EQ players know it currently, but there is enough variations on a rogue to let most people enjoy themselves.

And the graphics... oh mommy the graphics are so nice... Puts all the other online games to shame there in my book. Hey, $5-10 for a pre order. Give it a try.

The cleric epic can be done in 2 weeks now, it's sad.

Another game.

EQ2 will probably pull me away. If that doesn't Sigilquest probably will. The only thing keeping me signed in these days is guildies and friends.

The cleric epic can be done in 2 days

The 2 named gobbies are the only parts that can slow you down if you have spawn contention or really crappy luck.

I dont know.. WoW looks pretty good, but then again i though SWG, and DAOC looked good as well, and look at them LOL.. WoW may pull me away I like Blizzard allot

Yeah, SWG was a bit of a disappointment to me. EQ had you playing for years, SWG had you for a few months

A good surrealist online game would hook me, like Dark City or a David Lynch movie.

Lost Highway Online?? would that come with a free sample mind altering substance? Yeah I would definitely play that, imagine the available classes, and tradeskills! Oh why wasn't David Lynch a computer geek instead of a movie geek.

heh, pay to play the beta? @#%$ that. i can just buy the latest eq expansion or play swg.

There are more than 10 open beta's for a number of mmog themed games, unless you are a rabid fan there is no reason to put your faith in this game by paying to get in beta and then continue to pay for the ongoing beta otherwise known as a "paid subscriber".

I am still looking for my email back from them, but lineage beta is only a backup if I don't get in the w0w beta. back to daydreaming

"and Law and Order SUV reruns everynight" so true

It took me a week or two of watching this before I realized it's SVU. Very engrossing series. The best episode was when the whole team was psycho-analyzed by the department & guess what - they're all dysfunctional nutcases in their own rite, lmao. Peggleg Lone'Sock

I really want wow to be good, but any time they discuss the economy, death penalties or anything that makes risk vs reward come into context the biggest dev quote I hear is "its gotta be fun" or "its not fun" when it gets suggested its to easy a penalty. Which really worries me about the depth WoW will actually have beyond the 'casual gamer' market. PvP servers will hopefully keep me in WoW for a long time, but so far, doubt I could stomach a multi year EQ set in WoW textures all over again.

freonsmurf
03-02-04, 11:35 AM
eq isn't fun. mindless levels made worse by the carrot on the stick aa system. 2 hour raids to get a key for a 3 hour raid for 4 loots and another key? @#%$ the high end game of eq.
that entire system can say with eq and every uber with spends 5 hours a night raiding.

Brelkor

And its the endgame participants of EQ that bash other MMOGs saying they have no content or endgame when, well, they do something different.

My disapointment lies in player impact on WoW. Seems it will not be in game other than 'isolated instanced areas' which probable wont have any effects outside of those areas. Which means no real player generated content. When WoW could be so much more. While I understand the gripes about PvP and @#%$.(fact is @#%$ are in EVERY online game) Warcraft series for me was on B.Net, the campaigns were nice but not even close to the amount of fun B.Net has provided. Blizzard seem to be out to try and kill EQ rather than set there own path and do the Warcraft name justice.

Btw Wix, you don't have to pay to get into L2 beta, i just got the email. Paying is just a guarenteed way to get in. From what i've seen so far, it seems ok, graphics are some of the best i've seen but i'm interested in gameplay for the most part ( i stuck with old world models in eq for 4 years ) and i'm not experienced enough to comment on it just yet. Btw the way that the dark elves run is real funny looking

After ubermob 10014531-A6ZY i was done with EQ for good. That was right after the velious release, and i havnt looked back.

As far as the EQ killer, for me personally until they come out with a true dynamic world game,i cant really see anything Topping out on EQ or all the clones that have been published.

That doesnt mean some of the new games this year wont be decent,or even good. Just disappointed that as a gamer i seem to be stuck with the same Generation 1.25 online games that came out 4-5 years ago.

But Wix, surely you cannot be saying that future games should be dumbed down for noobs who can't make the time to chain themselves to 40 PMSing ADD obsessives for 3-5 hours 4-5 nights a week? Raiding all the time is how games were meant to be played. Stray not from the path brother Wix, come back to us! Embrace the true way and find your salvation (requires 20 step keys and flags to enter).

My EQ killer was immortal healing on the PvP servers. Actually, I guess it was the general lack of attention they paid to the gripes of people on those servers I think.

Sadly no other mmorpg has come close to giving me the thrill I once had playing EQ.

I was excited about WoW, but seeing the new screenshots they've released recently, my enthusiasm has waned significantly. I have no desire to play in an online version of the Rankin/Bass animated Hobbit movie.

Everytime I see the screenshots, "Down, Down to Goblin Town" pops in my head.

Well , for those who do truely want the hardest dullest $15 a month instant messaging client, EQ2 is the game to play. Level limit starts at 100 and you already have a station name!

My EQ killer was literally the death of a guildmate.

Sister Koru, the future is very bleak. Wait till dark, then its safe to eat your snack.

Who else is playing L2 btw? would love to adventure/chat with some. Same name, Biral, Dark elf fighter atm. Speaking of games i'm playing~ Planetside, emerald, Tr, Biral. Back on topic, ninja run is an apt name for how dark elves run heh. can't wait to see assassin skills, i'm not sure if they have started testing classes above that like abyss walker, etc. (btw human high level rogue is called treasure hunter pretty cool).

playin a Hottie Orc Mage named Extensys in the closed beta currently. Not playing to much since word around is a wipe is coming before open beta comes around. Gettin tired of the level 1-20 thing so waiting to really level up 20+ again once open beta hits.

Airsoft was my EQ killer. I love that game, soo much fun. Nothing better than going around a corner, and unloading an AK47 into your friend.. all in RL. hehe Its great.

question for you folks (if any) that got into L2 beta through the preorder - does it allow you in right away or is there a waiting period? it's still not showing up under my PlayNC name, and I didn't get any email replies after registering my bonus cd serial number.

Does WoW have object blocking or can mobs run straight through you?

EZ_JookaWoo

no on player collision, not sure if that also includes mobs.

My EQ killer looks like it's gonna be FFXI

No withdrawl symptoms yet, so I'm thinkin it might be permanent this time.... That, and GoD holds no interest for me.

Lineage II is the only MMORPG I've seen that has graghics to rival DAoC w/ToA expansion... not sure they are better, but they are darn good.

I'm apprehensive about WoW - will reserve comment until after I get some beta time in. Zato Thornblade the Dwarven Assassin of Tarew Marr

I wish DAOC had cross-realm object detection. Or at least object detection on the frontier. It would enable players to use a lot more strategy in the battles than the current 'Run around at the highest bard-speed and sack any smaller groups you come across' tactic.

EZ_LorinaEQ

I just wanted to clarify that it is $5 to hold the game on preorder which gives you the right to beta test Lineage 2. Once you've paid the $5, you dont pay a fee to play; and you get the money off the game should you decide to buy it when it goes live. Some stores are even giving the cdrom away with people who preorder with no payment upfront. Your mileage may vary.

The NDA prohibits me from listing pros and cons of the game. BUT I can say rogue types are fun to play, and the graphics are fantastic. As soon as allowed I'll post links to actual screenshots of my rogue and mystic.

Again, it may not kill EQ for everyone, but, man, I've met hundreds of people from EQ in the beta; and everyone agrees it will either be an addition to the addiction or a replacement for EQ for them. Ron

all the info anyone could ever want plus screenshots/movies are at L2 Orphus

This is not a nda breaker for the mods, it covers the Korean, Japaneese, and Tiawan releases as well. Most of the info there is slightly off do to changes made in the p2p Korean version.

Took about 20 minutes for me to get the email, you then have to use a link and conform or somesuch thing. Buddy of mine did it for me while I was making sure the food wasn't burning. BTW, if you get a code and decide to download the game instead of using the CD, expect a long wait while it sets up. Took me over an hour on the second computer.

Still, I am enjoying it more than any MMORPG in a long time.

yeah it took about two hours after registering the game on my PlayNC account for it to actually read as registered.

I've only played a bit so far, I guess coming from another very fun beta game right now *cough* I'm just not liking the comparison. I don't doubt that this game will probably be fun once I get higher level.. it's just a matter of getting higher level.

sounds like a cool idea...pay $5 - $10 to beta test it...if you don't like it...don't buy the game. Save yourself like $50.

Unlike FFXI...total crap imho. I'm waiting for the day when a company with some balls comes along and decides to make an mmorpg that's actually fun.

EZ_LorinaEQ

Have to add this info, since it is kinda cool compared to what other companies are doing right now.

I had a problem in game, and did the standard contact a GM thing while filling out a bug report as well (that is the idea of beta testing after all, to find bugs.) I get contacted by a GM within minutes, who not only fixes my problem, but thanks me for the bug report as well. And, get this, they are going to have Customer Service support in the USA for their North American customers. Better time zone usage, better language skills and mastery of slang and nuances and such means hopefully better customer service will result.

With so many American companies shipping jobs off to India, it is nice to see NCSoft (a Korean company with a US branch) sending jobs our way. It shows a commitment to their potentially largest client base.

So, as soon as Lineage 2 goes live, it looks like they're getting the $38.85 a month I used to give SOE for three accounts on EQ. If I can afford to, I might keep one EQ account active, but I'm not so sure at the moment.
