View Full Version : Spirit of Sloth Post 12/19 Patch
I've noticed a change in the sell-back price of Spirit of Sloth after today's (12/19) patch. Instead of selling back for 14+ plat each, my preliminary samples show a new sell-back price ranging from 8pp to 9pp4gp4sp. This price range was from a minimum of 12 different vendors in the Plane of Knowledge, most of which had nothing in their inventory other than what they spawn with post-patch.
From what I can tell, it looks as though there has been a stealth nerf in the sell-back price of Spirit of Sloth. Just yesterday, I sold several (100's) back to the same poison vendor in PoK for 14+ plat each. Now I can't get more than 9p4g4s from any vendor. It appears, however, that the individual prices for the components (i.e. ethereal suspension and creeper ivy) have remained the same price.
I would like to see if this can be verified by anyone else on servers other than Tarew Marr. If this is truly the case, the only way that Rogue can break even is if they make their own vials (which I do) and have a very high success rate (>80%) in making SoS.

I'm on EMarr and made this today and went to sell it back and they will only buy back now for 9pp and some change. Tried several different vendors, all the same.

Another side effect appears to be some kind of level restrictions for poisions now. I cannot apply Spirit of Sloth as a level 40 rogue. I get the message, "You are not high enough level to apply the poison"

I just noticed the same thing on ECI. This just raised the price to skillup on make poison by many thousands of plat.

The level limit on apply sucks. Old world poisons is already bordeline usefull, and now you cant even use them in the sintances wher they might have some use.
The price nerf has been comming for a while. I have not done the calculations, but if you wanted to abuse it you could make several thousand pp per hour. No where in the game can you make that much raw pp (ei. not off other players), and manyt playes can do this at the same time, potentially totally destrying the pp economy. After so many levels of non moneymaking ability as a class they should have left it the way it was.
You can't make any money on Make Poison at all.
They probably checked vendor stocks and saw 1 million SOS on the POK poison vendor and thought 1 rogue did it.

Actually pre-nerf at max skill you could make about 1000p per hour on spirit of sloth. More if you had the AA's. Only vender involved. And that was without macros to speed the combine process. I can only imagine the profits someone may have generated using macros etc (which may very well be how it got discovered by VI).
It was a guaranted tradeskill money generator with just one vender. VI does not (consciously) allow those in EQ, and you know it. They find those instances and nerf them eventually. The fact that they looked at poison with the price of vender-restocking 10-dose poisons was your first clue that this was coming.
They finally found our little money maker, and they got rid of it. Yes, sad, but not something I didn't expect to see go away when they found it. Yes, it was undiscovered by VI for a long time, or not taken care of if they did know about it... but the party is over gentlemen. The free cash is gone here, VI caught on.
Yes, there were far better ways to make plat for the time, pain of clicking, whatever. They are still out there. I rarely made plat using the spirit of sloth combines because it was too much annoyance, and my wrists didn't like it. VI wants you to go camp that item to sell in the bazaar to another player, not sit at a vender and click your way to riches. That is their intent, and this nerf is how they make it happen that way.
Perhaps that is a lesson in being rogue. Keep the secrets because when they get out, expect the party to end.
